PSP PackSony has JUST RELEASED a new PlayStation Portable hardware package, including:
  • PSP
  • Battery
  • AC adapter
The new pack is in stores now at a price of $199. Sony announced last week that the pack would be available today, being sold along side the $249 Value Pack. This is not the first different PSP "pack" to be sold in the US — Sony sold the $299 Giga Pack during the last holiday season, which of course came with the 1 GB memory stick.

 » Worth the extra ?

To the first post:
Do you think a soft case, cleaning cloth, 32 MB Memory Stick, strap, and Sampler Disc is worth the extra $50? I don't.

 » good

Good. Now game store like EBgames and Gamestop can stop screwing people. They have been selling preowned psp systems which were used and included just the psp and power adapter for $200.What a ripoff. They would buy a psp value pack from someone trading it in and seperate it.

Psp system used $200
used headphone $10
used softcase $ 8
used 32mb stick $20

that is $238 for a used value pack total.which they give like $100 trade for.Tell me they didn't know exactly what they were doing.*****s

 » I'll get this bundle!

Who wants to pay $50 for 32mb stick, cheap slip-on case, and cheap headphones, cloth.. and what, a strap??

The $50 you save from buying the value pack, you can spend on a good game (or 2), a 1gig pro duo, or even a case, a 128mb stick, a game, and 2 tacos from Jack in the Box!... I'm sold

 » Strap

The strap should've been included in this pack. It's the only thing from the Value Pack that I use.

 » 2.61

I just got back from target. I bought one of these. Its got a new firmware on it 2.61. GTA eloader doesn't work for it :(. No homebrew on this one I guess.

 » 2.61?

 » Sweet

Well for me this is a really good deal. I already have a value pack and I have been looking to get a second, one for homebrews and one for games. I think the white psp is being released like this in Japan for $200 so I will wait to get that one.

 » psp price

for that extra 50 you saved, go to craigs list. I know i could get a couple games for like 30 bucks. Or the whole system with like 3 games and 2 movies, 230$. Also on ebay I just got a 1gb Sony ProDuo from Hong Kong for 30 bucks. Ebay and CL are the SH*T

 » Finally

This core system "bundle" should've have been available since day 1, instead of forcing down the throats of consumers the "value" pack.

 » now what

does this now mean the gamestore giant, eb/gamestop, will now sell used psp's for $190? save another 10 bucks and maybe get a downgrade-able 2.0, or really lucky and get 1.5. would this also then mean they'll only buy used psp's for $90, bad enough they screw us consumers on game prices, the companies that made the game get no profit from the used game sales, sony gets no money from used system sales, and consumers get rooked re-selling the products back to them. BRAVO sony, stick it to the man. now lower game prices!!!!

by Anonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-03-22

Going to be £140 in the UK apparently and current value packs will be price at £180, but include a game. Early games, like wipeout.

I'd be willing to molest my current psp with a screwdriver if I got a second. Still not that cheap though... I was hoping £99 :)

 » no, 2.61

The rumor of a 2.61 firmware is completely untrue. The one I bought came with 2.50.

 » blah

Has anyone truly bought one today (dont lie) as I THINK I remember reading the new basic pack would be released on April 15?

 » to the 3rd post

Well lets see a 32 mb stick costs about 20 bucks. a case, cloth, strap about 15 and a sampler about 5 bucks. the head phones abotu 20 bucks. total 65 bucks so your going over 10 dollars not to mention tax. I love proving people wrong :) so people this is a rip i think you can all get a extra 70 dollars to buy something. btw with out a memory card how will you save? how will u use all the features on the psp. o wait u cant. lol BURN

 » I'm cancelling my PSP order >_

This sucks. Couldn't Sony have waited just a *little* while longer before coming out with this? I ordered a new PSP last week (from Japan though) and I am not taking a chance of it coming with 2.61...I'm cancelling. Thankfully the place I ordered it from wouldn't be able to ship it to me until next week because they are currently out of stock. Time to buy a used one... And time to return my GTA (thankfully never opened it yet) because I'm getting 1.5 PSP.

by Anonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-03-22
 » 2.61??? BULLSH*T

If there is a 2.61 firmware what are the features it provides and why does Sony's own website not make any mention of such a firmware. If it were on new systems it would be made available to the public as well. These post are full of sh*t.

» So far three comments have said they got 2.61

I've read all the comments (on this article and the other one related to it) and three comments said they specifically got version 2.61 on their new PSPs. Two of the three said the GTA eLoader does not work. (The other person said he didn't have GTA to even test it out.) However, Two other comments said they got 2.5 and 2.6 firmware on the new PSPs released.

has anyone checked the firmware for acid! 2?

 » It's like 2.01

Basically it's 2.60 with the GTA Exploit patched.
Just like 2.00 was currently on the PlayStation site as 2.60 is.
Soon 2.01 came as 2.61 will probably come.
About a week later 2.50 was released and hopefully 2.90 or 3.00 will be released.

 » ripoff

on the sixth comment down a guy was mentioning how gamestop is a ripoff , one thing that every gamer should know is that GAME STORES ARE THE BIGGEST RIPOFF ON THE PLANET i sold NFS:MS to gamestop never even played it, but since it didn't have shrinkrap on it, they gave me $18

anybody who owns a gamestore and is ripping people off is going to DIE A HORRIBLE PAINFUL ANAL DEATH BY ELMO
