Super Mario WarTwo days ago, we reported the release of Super Mario War 1.0 for the PSP. However, because of a mysterious bug, only FW 2.0+ users were able to enjoy the game so far.
But 1.5 users have reason to rejoice now: Developer Percival has finally found a solution - and so we present to you Super Mario War for FW 1.5!

In case you don't know it yet - Super Mario War is a port of a great little open source game, originally written by Michael Schaffer and Florian Hufsky, where you try to jump on the enemy Marios before they do the same to you. Sounds simple, but there are huge heaps of user made content around - consisting of custom graphics, sounds, whole mods and other stuff - you won't get bored any soon. All this works on the PSP version too, and with the fully functioning 1.5 executable now released, there's no reason to miss out on this gem!

» omg... HOW TO WORK IT ON 1.5!!!! EXPLAINED HERE!!

Go to PSP3D where they originally posted this file without any statement of a 1.5 problem. Download the 1.5 binary form their server and put it on your 1.5 and run it! It will work!

THERE NEVER WAS A PROBLEM!! I dont even know where these guys got that from! I really wanna know actually.. PSP3D just posted it and it all worked, they didnt state anything about a 1.5 problem, only PSPU said anything about this and only on here have there been comments of confused people who cant play the game...

There definitely was a problem, if you want to try it, grab the 1.0/2.XX version and KXploit it, then run it on your 1.5. Good luck, smart ass.

 » Fix for BSOD

Guys, my super mario wars was giving me the BSOD...so i noticed i renamed the folders in order to hide the corrupted icons, just simply leave the folder name as it is ("smw" and "smw%") that it'll work properly

Great port, but this seriously needs multiplayer support, not too funny playing only vs CPU.

cheers!

» the crash happens on FW2.0 not just 1.5!!

I just like to inform the authors that the app (the first version released - not this one) randomly crashes at start up even on a FW 2.0 using PSPXSet to version 3.0

Ok, 08905448 is the memory address where the exception is being caused and it either trying write to or read from: 681498E44 which is not within user mode memory range. WTF , why does that memory address have 9 characters? should only have 8 on a 32bit CPU.

Random crashes to me but with exact data indicate either two things:

1. More than 1 thread is being used, but at some times, the other thread will try and read or write to something that the other thread may not have initialized yet. but sometimes by the time the thread gets invoked, it may have been initialized.

2. Heap Buffer overflow - On FW1.5 it just happens to have two variables sitting next to each other on the heap. But one of them overflows into the other causing the second buffer to be invalid. But on a different firmware, the two variables may be far apart from each other on the heap, so even though one of the variables overflows, it doesn't overflow into the other variable memory space. (because it is far apart in heap memory)

 » Ok

Ok, i had a look in IDA. Its crashing when you attempt to load this sprite:

gfx/menu/player_select_background.bmp

You pass these arguments:

LoadSprite(0, 1, "gfx/menu/player_select_background.bmp", ....
