The good news: Sony has announced by way of the PlayStation Premier in Tokyo that they're making plans to release the 1Seg Tuner for the PSP. This device will attach on the PSP's USB port, like the Go!Cam and the GPS transceiver, and will provide the PSP with the ability to view digital TV broadcasts. The bad news: Sony further announced that this gadget is exclusive to the upcoming PSP-Slim. The 1Seg Tuner is expected to launch in Japan this September 20. It'll be interesting to see how well this technology will mesh with the Slim's previously announced video out capability. As for its technical specs: |

My PSP has never given me problems. It doesn't show signs of giving me problems. It's a day 1 psp. I sure as hell won't need to buy a new one. So I guess this is something that I will miss.

I think they will let this be Slim exclusive for few months and then they will release it for old PSP too.Personally, I don't care about this if it is only for Japan, and i don't watch TV at home so this won't be anything to feel bad about because I bought old PSP and can't enjoy its full capabilites.

Now for people who are mad at sony's decision to release there revised hardware. There can only be so many reasons why you'd be pissed.

Thus meaning, this tuner's compadibility is based upon the PSP's firmware (obviously). I think down the line, someone can extract the .prx file from the firmware for the TV tuner function, and have a homebrew program that will emulate what would come standard on the 3.60 firmware (or whatever firmware is required for the TV tuner)... or if magicly some genius just makes a custom firmware for PSPslim to work on the original PSPs... I dont know much about programing PSPs, but it sounds like a practical idea to me... Just food for thought to all those developers in the homebrew community
