Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced the version 2.70 system software update for Japanese PSP (Model PSP-1000). This update is slated for 14:00, April 25, GMT+9:00 (1:00AM, April 25, EDT). Here are the details of this update:

[Network]

  • [Internet Browser] now supports Macromedia Flash contents playback.
*You need to enable the Flash contents playback in the [System Settings].
*The version of the flash player is Macromedia Flash Player 6 (a part of the functions is not supported).
  • The settings of the [Internet Browser] is added into [Settings] -> [Connection Settings]
  • The audio contents from channels in the [RSS Channel] section now can be saved into your memory stick.
  • [Auto] option added to [Rate Change] in [Location Free Player].
*More about the Location Free base station can be found [here].

[Music]

  • Added file extension to playable AAC format.

[Settings]

  • Added [Enable Flash Player] in [System Settings].
*To change this option, you need to connect to the internet.
  • "Simplified Chinese" and "Traditional Chinese" added to [System Settings] -> [System Language].
  • Added [RSS Channel Settings].
  • Added [UMD Video L & R Button] into [Video Settings].
[Others]
  • Fixed some issues when using a memory stick with more than 2GB free space.
*This problem has not happened among the memory sticks sold in Japan until April 24.
So, there you got it. And please note that the old warning is still there:

"CAUTION: This update is only for customers who obtained PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) for Japan (PSP-1000 series). Upon completion of preparing, we will announce update information for the other countries/areas customers via SCE Group Web Site or other channels . For these customers who obtained PSP® in the other countries/areas, please DO NOT update PSP® through this web site. There are no guarantee of proper operation of the other PSP®."

You won't void your warranty, but it's not cool to do so in Sony's opinion. ;-)

Thanks for the email heads-up, Kynadr!

 » Flashy Update

Nice, I can't wait to go and watch some Homestar on my PSP. It's about time Flash was available, what the hell took so damned long?

 » Hmmmm...video

IF (I know it's a very big IF) the GTA Cheatdevice can be made to work on 2.7 perhaps a new feature could be added. The option to output the Video Recorder to and swf file. It might be a way to get around the 10 video limit in the web browser. (Anyone who follows the CheatDevice will hopefulyl know what I'm trying to say - lol)

 » Hmmmm....

I dunno about this... Seems like kind of a half-assed update here.

Flash support was a must tho.. I hope some devs update and crack it like a macadamia nut

 » Not 2.7

As some people said as comment, the 2.7 is not downloadable yet, even though some fat bastard said "ok i have a usa psp i think 1001 right so i rick it all and put the 2.70 in update game folder and it worked fine!! will post a pic soon"

I just tried it so..., probably have to wait until tomorrow then :)

 » MORE CACHE?

I wonder if this means that the browser's cache issues will be fixed? If not, how well is FLASH really going to work with such a limited amount of cache available???

by Anonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-04-24
 » Dont do it!

If you enjoy your homebrew dont do it! for what?? flash player? oooooo WOW!

you can get a Homebrew flsh player anyway!! works a treat!

Im sticking with my 1.5, i will NEVER upgrade, i'd rather buy a new psp than lose all the benefits to a 1.0 or 1.5.

But each to their own..

 » GTA EXPLOIT

SORRY MISQUOTED A BIT HERE'S THE ACTUAL CONVERSATION IN PSP WEEKLY ISSUE 6.

FANIJTA - "THE ONLY SENSIBLE WAY TO DO IT(PATCH THE GTA EXPLOIT) WOULD BE GET ROCKSTAR TO RECALL GTA COPIES AND PATCH THEM. THEY CAN ALSO DO SOME STUFF IN THE FIRMWARE, BUT IT'S HARD TO DO WITHOUT BREAKING PAST GAMES".

 » GTA Exploit is lame!!

I don't care about this lame GTA exploit. It is lame, relies on having a specific UMD, there is no kernel access, you have to wait for the save game to load, many homebrew will never work and it will never be as stable as a 2.0 or 1.5. If I only had access to any of the higher firmware Psp's only I would do what I could to sell it and get a new 1.5 from Ebay or one of those online stores. Firmware 2.7 is just designed to block the GTA exploit to eradicate all possibilities of homebrew forever. I think anyone thinking of updating should do so because if they are stupid enough to do it that is one less moron clogging up the forums asking for 2.6 downgraders.

 » Yawn...

Unless there is unrestricted kernal access, with the full ability to downgrade. YAWN its another yawn update...

I belive flash will be the most exploitable point, but i also assume sony would have created what they call a "limited" access.

In reality, u could start making "flash homebrew" and piss off all the 1.50 users lol.

What i want is to try emulate 2.70 but i doubt its gunna happen!

W/e
