PSPGuess what? ChaosZero just made some "noob-friendly" app for the latest 2.71 custom firmware. And just how noob-friendly is it? Let's just say that if your 7 year old brother knows what a USB port and a PSP is, he can probably do this himself. Of course, provided that your brother isn't a brat whose main purpose in life is to brick your PSP but that's not the point...

Anyway, to install, just download the package you want to have on your PSP, hook your beloved handheld to your PCs USB port (using the USB cable, of course) and run the executable file. See? We told you it's that simple. But before you go and do that, here are some notes that you have to read first:

  • Game menu freezing error: you must have a GAME folder and a GAME150 folder…
Then you can boot Recovery Mode, enter Configuration, Change "Game folder homebrew" to 1.50 kernel and exit. Only after that you can make a GAME and a GAME271 folder.
  • Game menu responding slow at times:Whenever you do an update to the ISO folder (add, delete, change files, first SE-B execution), a little delay will occur when entering in memory stick games. While the ISO folder is not changed, this won’t happen.
And here are the features of the SE-B FULL Build, SE-B New User Build, and the SE-B LITE Build:

SE-B FULL Build
  • Upgrade from SE-A to SE-B
  • Install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (2.71)
  • Install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (1.50) GUI Mod and 2.71 Firmware (In SE-A, this played games 2.71’s DevHook wouldn’t)
  • Just SE-B, no DevHook
  • Just DevHook (2.71), no SE-B
  • Install RECOVERY Folder for downgrading to 1.50.
SE-B LITE Build
  • Upgrade from SE-A to SE-B
  • Install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (2.71)
  • Install RECOVERY Folder for downgrading to 1.50.
SE-B New User Build
  • Straight install 2.71 SE-B with DevHook (2.71).

   Re: syp (Unregistered) - 2006-10-27

the pack includes decrypted firmwares and as such is illegal in many countries.

the installer is just the decrypted files in a self extracting archive

i am shocked qj.net allow this as it is just as illegal as a fully set up devhook folder

   Re: skball123 - 2006-10-26

Okay so I installed the program and it runs great. I want to go back to 1.5. I enter recovery mode (hold R @ startup) and run recovery, but it tells me game cannot be started? Any suggestions?

Yes you have to use the correct downgrader to go to fw1.5 then run the full installer from there. If you try to run it from 2.6 it might brick (the last one did.)

dark alex's read me says it can be ported to 2.6.so you update to 2.71 SE-A! but no one doing it! its weird all us who are worried about bricking are on 2.6?lol

what do you need it for?2.71 se-b has 2.71 features, plays nearly all homebrew and now supports isos.. i just deleted devhook altogether

Go to dax.lan.st and download the SE-B there. Now, there is a devhook fix folder - copy the contents into the root of your MS

No u can't do dis on ta-082 coz u need 2 hv a 1.50 fw. ta-082 can't be downgraded to 1.50 (for the moment) n do even think using HEN-C emulate 1.50 to do this.

   Re: ChaosZero (Unregistered) - 2006-10-26

That's what I thought too O_o
If anything, the FULL build has the 2.71 firmware, which PSP Updates never hosts.

i think they do, you can find it here http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmwares/catid/163

   Re: CarXCrashXHearts - 2006-10-26
 » ...

Even if it was illegal, why does it matter? What, you don't want them to host it anymore? You really want to ruin it for everybody, don't you? Idiot.

   Re: ChaosZero (Unregistered) - 2006-10-28
 » .

@CarXCrashXHearts- I made it. I don't care if they host it. The sites it was made for are still hosting it. That's all that matters.

no it donesn't work on TA-082 and you have to be at 1.5 to update to 2.71se-b

 » devhook?

can someone clarify for me whats the point of devhook on 2.71 SE-B except for running the few games 2.80 and up?

I've never used it, isn't its only purpose to emulate advanced firmwares?

   Re: Gryff33 - 2006-10-26
 » Devhook

Yes, that's what devhook does, although it doesn't emulate higher than 2.71. I don't understand either why the installer includes devhook. Is it required to use SE-B, or can I delete it?

Re: some guy again (Unregistered) - 2006-10-26
 » delete it

im runnin my "legally backed-up" isos fine with out it, and all my umds, even the ones that wouldn't work in 2.71 se-a work perfectly

Same. That's what this one is too, just took awhile to get the FULL pack uploaded, so psp-hacks waited to upload it, the QJ grabbed it from them.

Is it because you can play versus other psp owners online? Why would this be beneficial if I have 1.5 already? Is it super-necessary to have? Can I get at least 3 good reasons to put on psp. Have 1.5 n devhook. Thanx a bunch!

   Re: kill (Unregistered) - 2006-10-26

just try it yourself, you can always downgrade to 1.5 if you don't like it

What IS the point in having Devhook on a firmware that's already 2.71 (unless you're playing 2.8+ required games).

Is it fine to run ISO's without Devhook??
I've tried and it doesnt work if I just put .iso files into the ISO folder in psp root, but then some ppl say it works. Someone please clarify!!

Thanks!!

u can downgrade back to 1.5 but not using the official 2.71 downgrader. u hv 2 use the recovery mode (boot psp n press R). Read the readme.txt came with the package.
