PSP and Game

MiG from our forums has updated his amazing 2.71 SE-B VSH Overclocking module to v0.6 today, updating the previous version to include an important update which I think you guys are going to like. This latest version of the Dark_Alex 2.71-SE custom firmware overclocking tool should work much better with games such as the recently-release Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories when you try to access the multiplayer Wi-Fi mode, because the glorious MiG has made a number of significant updates to ensure multiplayer playability.

In the last version you could change the CPU speed between 222Mhz and 333Mhz in order to make Wi-Fi work, but take a look at these updates to see what this VSH overclocking module features:
  • 24-BIT Blitting - So much better than the last one, and will display the current clock for around 1 second, and pause the game whilst doing this.
  • Every CPU speed - we now have 333, 266, 222, 133 CPU speeds
  • START+SELECT to Change Speed - START+SELECT will cycle through the speeds it should go down the Speeds then when it hits 133mhz go back to 333mhz on the next cycle.
Want to play online with this? Simply turn the CPU down to 222mhz if you are going to host or join a game, and let the WiFi Connection be made. Then once a WiFi connection has been established, turn the CPU back up to 333mhz.

This has been tested with VCS so far, and it works flawlessly. If the game goes funny with WiFi when trying to connect at 222mhz, try putting the CPU speed down to 133mhz using START+SELECT, and everything should be fine, and then clock back up to the desired speed.

Future updates include an installer being made by Coldbird, so keep your eye on this one!

I installed on my PSP with fresh 2.71 SE-B'' firmware. It did raise my psp's cpu speed to 333mhz and down to whatever the lowest is. But this program completely disabled my wifi at ANY speed you can use with this program. So I uninstalled it. I recommend using the MP3 Module, can do so much more and it can change your CPU speed. I think there are 7 different speeds. All work with wifi.

I DO NOT recommend this program.

MP3 module is cool to use with internet browser.

man, this thing looks to be very bad programmed. i already read of some more people, who bricked their psp with this...

 » bricks

the problem is not with the module programming, but the installer programming, read the dev forum and you'll understand why. just wait for coldbird's installer for it.

 » brick

Yeah, THIS BRICKED MY PSP....no kidding, Never had it bricked before, and now it just bricked it...

Thank God for Dark Alex's recovery mode, I was able ot flash back to 1.5 then back to 2.71 SE B'.....this goes as a reminder to me though, If i want to run a game at 333, I will just load up devhook...no more flashing 2.71se b' for me, unless its something Dark Alex released himself.

 » Hahahaha

Thank Dark Alex....*cough* and HarleyG*cough* for Recovery Mode. You guys be very vague about touching the PSP's flash.

I didn't even want to install DA SE firmwares, but became tired of looking at my GTA: LCS for three days straight.

You never know whether another's firmware mod/flash will overwrite another's flash/mod crittcal files (ie DA SE Firmware) causing conflict (ie any form of a brick).

One should resist flashing the PSP, unless they have a modchip, which in that case they can go on a flash rampage if needed or brick their sh!+3 for the hell of it!

thats not overclocking, if it went to over 333 mgh than it would be overclockig. The psp chip was designed to run on 333 mghs.

 » not a bricker

i have flashed this and the vcs cheat device and both work absoloutely fine, no problems atall

   by akuma2099 - 2006-11-04
 » ok i guess

This is nice and all but I am not really into the whole flashing my PSPs firmware. Everything that this thing can do devhook can do and there is no chance of it bricking my PSP. I appreciate any piece of homebrew that is made but this is just not for me.

   by manaox2 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » Finally works...

I used the original 0.2 of this and it prevented any ISO from loading, so you had to reflash in 2.71SE-B all over again and update it. I decided that this one is worth the risk and went for it. It works. I'm very happy now that my advice for improvements was used and I now have little use for devhook. :) Thank you.

If your actually really worried about bricking, then just move your custom 2.71SE-B fresh install into the GAMERecovery folder and use that to reflash the firmware if needed. No would should be able to fully brick from this unless they somehow lose power during that 1/8th of a second and unluckily corrupt it, although semi-bricking is possible.

 » Not stable

From the very first release this has been unstable and I have posted the problems up in the release forum. The same problems still exist therefore I will not be using this again. The Dev seems to be more interested in his ego and receiving praise for releasing the first module rather than accepting constructive criticisim from other experienced devs and improving this.

   by err.. (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » err again

You guys arent listening to me.. This does not work with all games.. sure it works on VCS but if freezes for others like Medal of honor... even if its on 222mhz it freezes and shuts the psp off...

   by xpathx007 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » ?

is there a way to remove the mod?

   Re: err.. (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » err..

Yeah the same way you apply the mod, I believe pressing Square removes the mod.. just read when you load it.
   by Alteridos (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » Hm

It's alright but when you install it the program seems to uninstall the CWCheat for 2.71SE so I uninstalled OCModule because if you save your default settings of CWCheat to 333mhz then all your games/ISOs will be 333mhz everytime you boot them up. You get cheats to boot.

this dam thing bricked my psp....smei bricked anyway i know how to fix it at least ,still i guess i should have read more before usen this...i recomend that no one uses this and the creator to get F*** in the A

 » Brilliant!

I have not had a problem with this. had the very first release and have just upgraded to this current one. You are able to set the speed as you like and it now means i can play NFS: Carbon with no laggy 222mhz driving, but also lower the speed back to that when i need to create a WI-FI connection. I have also played DS: Throne with it and it works fine. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! :D
