yes it is, sony stated in the press release it will work with the current pro duo devices, just not at the full 8-bit connection speed as that would need a hardware upgrade to utilize.

so it will work with the full storage but only with the 4bit connection.

obviously a firmware update will be needed.

and this stick should come standard built in to the psp2, or something like it.

   by Vietone - 2007-01-18
» Some people have no knowledge

Its 8GB.

Think of it this way.
Hard drive are rated as 1,000,000,000 bytes for 1GB
But in reality a computer sees it as 1,073,741,824 bytes for 1GB.

This applies to all storage devices Devices.
When you buy a 750GB hard drive you see 698.5GB in windows.

Are you going to go back to the store and complain your missing 50GB? NO, because thats what the hard drive manufactures did. Sony is following the "STANDARD" and Microsoft and every company in the world. Your getting 8,000,000,000 bytes on the memory stick and thats how it is.

Your not losing anything because it was never there in the first place. Some of you are soo stupid and cant realize that. You want to complain that it doesnt show 8GB, then go buy a 750GB and go complain to the hard drive makers that your missing 50Gb of space.

Re: Gb not GB (Unregistered) - 2007-01-18
 » They're liars

That would be correct if we were not talking about a whole gigabyte. It is a misrepresentation of data storage. very much like the old monitors used to be. They said 21" but in reality they were 19-20" same applies for HD. It would be better if they were listing it as bytes of sorage and not gigabytes.

   Re: Yes (Unregistered) - 2007-01-18
 » Um...

Although you're just trying to relate things, your example kind of... just sucks. You see, we're not talking about a 750 GB hard drive, that has so much storage you wouldn't even realize 50 GB is missing. But when you're trying to fit as much as you can for travel or whatever on a 1 giger, or 4 giger, you know when you're not getting the whole deal. Even a gig stick has something like 940 MB... that may not seem like a big deal, but if you only have 1 gig to start with and it chops off 60 MB, trust me there is always an extra video or some songs to go on it.

   Re: Vietone - 2007-01-18
 » Then..

Go buy yourself a 8GB hard drive and you will find the same thing happens.

Its much more dramatic when you get to higher storage devices. Because when you buy a 160Gb hard drive, you get around 150GB.

Thats 10 GB lost.

Imagine someone who knows nothing and purchases a 750GB drive, they open up windows and see they only have 698.5GB. its a perfect example because when sony releases a Duo with more space, people will still complain about it.

   Re: Jin (Unregistered) - 2007-01-18
 » Damnit kid, I know...

I said that example sucks. It just does. There is a huge difference between a 6,000 TB hard drive and a 1 gig stick. You try to get as much as you can with a 1 gig because you don't have a lot. Do you think I'd give a ***** if my PSP could hold 600 GB when I bought a 650 GB harddrive? Or do you think I'd be more pissed if I had way less space to work with anyway and had to sacrifice ***** because taking 4-60 MB matters when you only have that much. And people know sometimes they're in spots where they say, "Man if I only had that extra 40 MB I could fit this." So quit feeding me the exmaple that you are.

   Re: :) (Unregistered) - 2007-01-23
 » Basically

its the difference between fitting a 45minute porn video with 450 pics of Double D titties to go wit it or just the 45 minute porn video. no matter how you shake em you want that extra space :)

"we would also like to point out that maybe half (or more) of us do not understand how storage capacity is rated, yet we are indeed complaining about how a storage product's capacity is rated, we know, we are idiots, forgive us."

"ps, dear sony, please could you continue to provide us with excellent products, so we can call you names."
