Say Chotto!Say Chotto, Shotto!

Wanna know how well the PSP can be used as a camera with Sony's Chotto Shotto? Well, say cheese, thanks to happy_mak/manishprabhune of the Livedoor Blog. Okay, so happy_mak takes a picture of a local street (somewhere in urban Japan is the best we can localize to) and of his Chotto Shotto packart. They're the pics up there, if you're wondering.

Then there's a vid clip he uploaded onto YouTube. Same local street, localized to somewhere in urban Japan. So Chotto Shotto works - and it apparently works like a dream. Cool. Your PSP now officially doubles as a handy digital cam. I wonder if people will now start adapting their homebrew paint apps for Photoshop functionality.

So what's next? manishprabhune intends to post up more of his trigger-happy pics and clips on his Livedoor blog as he takes them. That's cool. Now if the next William Hung were to get his own hands on one and record a demo reel of... um, say Lindsay Lohan music, for, um... viral posting to YouTube, MySpace, Google Video, and so on and so forth... we're doomed! (Rest assured: we won't let that get on QJ downloads!)

My Christmas list:

I would be the happiest kid alive with those items.

You just don't know what megapixels means huh? You think, the more megapixels I got, the better pictures I get. Well you're wrong.

The more megapixels you have - the bigger pictures you get, and thats it.

FYI, there are 5-8 megapixel cameras which perform worse than selected 2 megapixel cameras.

good quality and size! on my 2mp cam on my cell, pics are about 3/4 size of that when viewed to same quality as the pic of the street.

hmm... No pictures in full resolution?

Any picture can look so, if you make it smaller..

But the Video Quality is pretty nice, indeed.

Full resolution here¡¡¡

 » That's not full resolution...

1.3 megapixels is a 1280 x 1024 image (for 4:3 aspect ratio). An image that size would nearly fill the screen on my computer which is at 1440 x 900. The images at the link you posted are nowhere near that size.

^ Actually, 1280x1024 is an aspect ratio of 5:4.

   Re: Vipre77 - 2006-11-05
 » D'oh!

Yeah, 5:4, you're right. Still, 1280x1024 is a commonly used resolution on 4:3 aspect ratio monitors. The image gets skewed a little to make it fit, but it's hard to tell without actually measuring it. Regardless, I don't know what the actual aspect ratio is that the Chotto Shotto uses. I just picked 1280x1024 because it's a standard size used by most 1.3MP cameras.

 » Wow

I have to say that I was sceptical about the quality of the camera, and whilst it's not going to be replacing anyone's digital camera any time soon, it certainly does it's job as both a video and a stills camera.

Kudos to Sony

do we have to upgrade to use the camera?
btw when will a 2.8 downgrader be released?

   by RaiderX - 2006-11-04
» pics look better than i expected, but..

i can still see where the quality is flawed. pretty good though, beat my expectations.

Is it just me or is that box like overly huge for a small little usb camera?

sony owned you little rich kids with your 8mp cameras

   Re: Vipre77 - 2006-11-05
» Hahahaha.... You sooo don't know what you're talking about

Obviously, you've never used a good camera before... Have you ever tried printing a 1.3MP image before? Anything bigger than 3x5" is gonna look like a tile floor. You'll need a minimum of 2-3 MP for a decent 4x6" print.
