GPS

Way back, Sony announced that they would come up with a GPS accessory for the PSP. And just a few days ago, we've shown you some pictures of it, too. Well, the official GPS unit (with an emphasis on "official") for the PSP has been revealed, and we've got more pictures to show you!

The GPS receiver is attached on top of your PSP unit via the USB port, and if you notice in the middle picture below, it can actually be folded. You can either keep your GPS unit up as an "antenna" or, if want to keep your PSP less bulky, you can fold the GPS unit over the UMD slot at the back. As to whether the GPS will still be active while it's folded over, we don't know.

However, this is definitely something to look forward to. Word is, while you can use the GPS as a "where am I?" map viewer or for other navigational purposes, the GPS unit will also be used in several games. One of which is the much awaited Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. O! M! G!

   by Kassem - 2006-08-28

Hell Yerah even though sony is probaley going to track down people with iso but so what who cares

For those saying that sony can track you and your isos, you should think a little. This is a receiver, it can only receive signals from the GPS satellites...

» Can we get Satellite Radio with this?

Satellite Radio would be a cool add on for this!

really now wat is the point of a gps? it is a real waste of money. i'd rather buy a map and use that than waste money on a gps

» If it's like other GPS...

Then more than likely it won't cost anymore than the price for the unit. It shouldn't cost you anything to use it, at least that's what someone who uses them told me :P. Some may not want this, but I know I'd rather have this than look at some world atlas while trying to drive ( It's not fun, I've had to do it several time ). But yah *sighs heavily* , it will inevitably have to require some friggin firmware upgrade ( which I stilll think are getting a little too old ). If SONY wanted the world to REEALLY wet themselves with joy ,they could promise not to keep going with the constant firmware updates...LOL. :D ;-)
At any rate, I hope it's not to high priced, because I could really see myself using this for more than just gaming.

does anyone have any real info on how much this is gonna cost?

   by MrSpud (Unregistered) - 2006-08-28
 » Sorry..

I did not mean to press enter.

This is not really a smooth, curvy and sleek piece of hardware. It just plain ugly and it looks out of place.

As for who needs a GPS? Well maybe not a 9 years old gamer but the PSP is so more then just that. This is just one more feature to complement this awesome piece of hardware. I need a GPS for my work and so does a lot of people.

Use a map? Sure... and while I'm at it, I'll walk instead of driving and use candles as oppose to electrical light.

Live with your time!

 » Well

I think the price would be btw $50-$80 reason is the usb GPS attachments for laptop is around $80-$130 so it sounds about right, tho i might be wrong, and the idea of having satillite radio is cool. but do you guys know if it will be a fully functional GPS(so I can use it in my car)? I hope it's not a limited "functionality" (is that a word?) will just have to wait till TGS on Sep 22.

 » F@CKING POS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sony made it flip down, no, not for looks or practicality...............so it can keep their POS UMD tray shut.

   by lavino (Unregistered) - 2006-08-28
 » interesting but...

it's require a fw update for verion 99999999? If it is cheap enough and if I can use it in mine without firmware upgrade that devhook can't handle then I might consider getting it....
