PS2 controller mod for your PSP - Image 1

For something that started out as a goofy sketch, F00 f00's PS2 controller for the PSP mod definitely went through an amazing metamorphosis. Want to take a gander at the final product? Click play on the video below.

Our read-link below should lead to his post over at the AcidMods Forum that details the development of the mod. It has pictures that chronicles the means by which he accomplished this cool mod, and notes how he tested that nifty suction cup idea of his. Yep. The thing he was sticking to the back of the PSP was a suction cup. We'll update you folks as soon as F00 f00 posts more updates regarding this amazing project of his.

I think this should win the best psp mod ever made award (at least its more useful than changing the color of blinking lights lol)
- It doesn't seem to add weight
- Obviously doesn't use up much battery
- Way easier to control games
- A lot easier watching movies ( you wouldn't have to elevate your arms from your lap)
-Verdict. This guy should sell these types of psps on ebay, i would surely buy one.

Easily the best mod out for the PSP, I would pay money for this to be done on mine. PSP controls suck, I want this so badly now..

Awesome mod. Definitely would help with all the great fighters on the psp (Tekken to name one) would benefit. Somewhat impractical sure, but I would still buy one nonetheless.

 » Woah...

That's pretty cool. You know how the people who created Ratchet & Clank Size Matters say that it feels like your playing Ratchet & Clank on the PS2 because ff their control scheme they made for the PSP. Well, this would really make it feel like you're playing Ratchet & Clank on the PS2. And this would also be good for Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX. You have the extra shoulder buttons plus a better D-Pad. The D-Pad on the PSP isn't so good that's why it's even hard to do the simple moves such as a fireball.

the R2 and L2 buttons work
as there isnt anything on the psp to bind(?) them to

Did I miss something?! The modder presumably spent tens of hours fufilling his demented fantasy and his PSP isnt even homebrew enabled! WTF!

maybe he has two. one for modding experiments and another for homebrew

 » Awesome mod

I should have mentioned that I do think this is a really accomplished and awesome mod and I meant demented in the best of all possible ways. I just thought it was odd that someone who loves there psp this much wouldnt have a "pimped" xmb and tons of homebrew.
And the 5 year old who called me a loser should attempt to learn the english language before he embarasses himself on the internet or at school anymore.

   Re: AlucardZero (Unregistered) - 2007-03-04

How about YOU lear some English... Oh thats right. English is capitalized. You also spelled embarrass wrong, good job there buddy.

Yeah I forgot the n in learn so enjoy my mistake there, *****.

   Re: jrfhoutx - 2007-03-04
 » ...

First, the homebrew scene accounts for a much smaller percentage of PSP owners than places like QJ would have you belive.

Second, why should you bother to have a homebrew capable PSP when your PSP spends most of it's life in pieces in the name of AcidMods's Research and Devolpment, with an extremely high risk of bricking by damage from developing new mods. Cyberpyrot has lost three PSPs in developing mods like the 2nd analog nub.

   Re: F00 f00 (Unregistered) - 2007-03-04
 » Hello jr

Thanks for the help here. It dose have a custom firmware now though, and in the vid, I was just showing the drive working.
I think R+D have killed about 6 psp's in the last few months.
Worth the pain though.

SMT, why did you assume that his PSP isn't homebrew enabled, is it the fact that he didn't have any homebrew on his mem card that you automatically presumed this?

wow THis is Awsome

but i think it might just take up more of the battery Life on the psp for the activation of the 4* Usb slots

but anyways I WANT IT Lol
how much will this instalation be i give it

135$+

well this is cool Keep it up guys :D

he may have had a homebrew enabled machine, but he woulda had to show us the umd still working otherwise people would think the umd was made useless to accomodate the extension.....like the fan that was moded by acidmods.....cool mod tho ;-)
it may or not have been homebrew capable....who gives a ***** anyhow......id buy it THEN downgrade it ;-)

Great work, what are you going to work on next?
I personally, would love to see a hack for the
wireless PS2 controller.

You got any tutorials on how to install another
PSP anolog stick on the right bottom side exactly
opposite of the OEM preexisting anolog stick, and
not the mini B mounted to the side.

I like the built in version best, along with a wireless
PS2 Controller.

Thanks for showing the world your hacks.

well to get your 2 triggers with leds is 100 bucks..... im sure if you asked foofoo to do this mod for you, its going to cost you around 300 bucks! (if he wil even attemp on someone elses psp...look at the pics) hope you have a good paying job!

shouldnt be too difficult its practically like wiring the external analog stick to the psp analog, except in this case its still in the origional casing

   by PSPZorZ - 2007-03-04
 » d

This is kinda rigged for all of those people playing it legit and have official sony FW (like 3.10/3.11)... When playing multiplayer online games, people with this mod will have a great advantage by having a lot more control... oh well, it was bound to happen eventually, but if I ever get this, I'm not going to use it online to get an edge...

PS: isn't there some way this could be hooked up to the single USB port that the PSP already has? I really want to be able to play with a PS2 controller, but I'm definitely not doing a hardware mod for it... it would be cool if you could simply buy a PS2 controller that plugs in directly to the USB port and then enable a plugin that makes it work.

   by Evilution - 2007-03-04
 » Not that difficult

I recognise the sucker mount from the TomTom cheapy replacement kit. All the button pads are then extended to small usb ports to the side of the PSP where they go to the corresponding buttons of the PS2 controller.

   by JohnnyMcKinney - 2007-03-04
 » FREAKIN COOL

This is one mod I would spend more than 50 bucks for.

 » psp2tv

I know its neat this guy did this on his own and all. but why not just get psp2tv?

it has allowed the use of a ps2 controller on your psp for quite some time. costs arounds $110

That is ture but it ugle and non portable. Mine may be large but I can easily cary it in my bag and plug and play wherever I am.

 » *begins to drool*

This has to be one of the coolest psp mods i have ever seen. I must have taken alot of dedication to make this. How long did it take you? I know this is off topic but does anyone have any idea of when they are going to figure out how to downgrade from firmware version 3.11? I got my psp a few weeks ago and me being as trigger happy as i am i went out and put 3.11 on my psp once i had it in my grubby hands, thinking that it was good to upgrade. then i was talking to one of my buddys that has a heavily mod (homebrews) psp and he said "you freakin idiot. now you can downgrade!" ='(

Thanks

   by ... (Unregistered) - 2007-03-04
 » No idea

Sorry Elmo but no one has any idea when that will happen. You will just have to be patient and wait. It could happen tomorrow, it might take the next 5 years. It all depends on if/when someone finds a weakness in the firmware.

For those kind words of support. lol, then again i have contemplated just returning the psp to walmart and grabbing a new one, and with whatever firmware it have start my homebrewing days like that. the only problem with that is that on my existing psp i inves
