not now... I want to enjoy my PSP a little bit more. Release it on late 2008, and I might buy it.
Anyway, if the PSP was morphed with a phone, instead of being a small console, it would be a huge phone.
I must say the lack of 'real' news lately is appauling.
I think this will come out in 2010. That way the PSP had a good five years. Before the next version of the PSP comes out. I think there could be two versions one with the stuff every one wants and the other with that stuff plus a phone.
This is an unconfirmed rumor, and you're already predicting a launch date?
You all bought N-Gages, didn't you...
Really though, you'd think after that disaster, companies would learn, people don't want to hold something the size of the PSP to the side of their head. You just look stupid using those things.
Very true. N-gage was a good idea but I din't want a phone that big and I bet everyone thinks like me on that one (except the less than 100 people who actually bought an N-gage, haha, I laugh at their faces, haha).
i won an n-gage qd in a free contest at G.A.M.E. in San Francisco and I liked it. It was about the same size as my current smartphone (which is smaller than most smartphones). It had great graphics for its time and it had great features, but I ended up selling it because the interface was WAY too slow; navigating menus and the such.... If they released a new one that was as fast as my current Nokia then I would definitely buy it again.
just because one failed doesn't mean all others will, who said is gonna be the size of a PSP you *****... You didn't even see the thing and is already dooming it, stfu and go play your wiisports, *****ing retard...
How do you plan on selling something as a PSP with a DS sized screen? Or no analogue stock? Could give it a watch battery and have it die after seconds instead of minutes.
There's lots of options, but you wouldn't be able to sell it as a PSP if you used any of them. Everything is made to fit the PSP. Take anything away, it won't work. Shrink the screen, you won' be able to see stuff properly.
I didn't say it for the fun of it or to provoke fanboy responses from guys like you. I actually thought about it as I read the article unlike some people who just blindly scream "Woo Sony!".
Don't get me wrong, I'm not badmouthing the PSP. I have it, it's great. But however they go about doing this, they'll have to take away something important to the PSP, or it's going to be the N-Gage all over again.
You must be awfully proud of yourself too. I bet your *'d off implied swear words make you feel like a big boy, don't they.
Oh, and BTW. Wii Sports is actually a great game. Sony fanboys should actually try it before trying to talk about it. It'd be like me saying the PS3 Home thing sucks. Haven't played it, can't say anything about it.
first of you little *****, there is no release date or there is? it can be rls at 2010 do you know how stuff will be by there? iPhone mother*****er, ever heard of it? Look at the size of the screen look at the games it runs so stfu ok? You dont know how they will implement the stuff until you see it... Second, nobody here is going "Woo SonY!" im just telling your gay ass not to doom something before you even get to see it... Third how the ***** do you know i never played wiisports? Yeah its fun for like 2 hours then its just a boring piece of ***** so go ***** yourself, *****got...
A BIG smiley face for you, you're absolutely spot on!
Nice one.
And even more *'d off words, you must be a real man to use so many. Should be proud of yourself.
Anyway like I said, unlike you, I've actually thought about this. Sure, things will be different by 2010, but not that different. We won't have holographic screens for mobile phones. The thing's still going to have to be there, and it's going to make it the size of a brick. Sure the iPhone's big, but it isn't that big, and people are already saying that it's going to be too big to use realistically.
Also, if you had played Wii Sports, you wouldn't have tried using it against me. Everyone that plays it likes it, so trying to insult me with it, only makes you los stupid, not me.
BTW, again you should probably try lay off the *'s. Only makes you look stupid. It kind of implies you're angry or shouting or something. It's only the internet dude, calm down.
You suck dude, stop trying to make yourself look cool on the internet it only make you "los" stupid
"We won't have holographic screens for mobile phones. The thing's still going to have to be there, and it's going to make it the size of a brick. "
So i guess you know the future eh? i bet 10 years ago if somebody talked about cameras on cell phones people like you would say its bull***** but look it now....
BTW, i don't wanna know what your sissy nintendo fanboys friends think of Wii i heard a lot and a mean A LOT of people complaning how the Wii gets old fast and i played that ***** and i know its true so go stuck that wiimote in your ass and stop talking bull*****
You don't even listen to his real point. People want cellphones to be small. Playing games on a small cellphone is not good so cellphone must be bigger. Cellphone bigger noone wants it. Now maybe you should understand this 1rst grade method of explaining although I'm not too sure you passed First Grade.

"well I work at Gamecrazy and I've noticed that in the past month of March I've sold only 6 PSP systems and like 20 something DS Lites...I don't think a price drop will make a big difference but at least a noticeable one.
Like 80% of the customers that come in this store who want a handheld are kids or teens under 16 who have parents that watch out for the ESRB ratings like a hawk. Most of the kids/teens come in looking for a PSP but there parents refuse to buy it because it has a lot of M-Rated games and it costs so much. Don't get me wrong I try and sell the PSP to people who would benefit from it most like teenagers because of the music and video stuff but they just don't have the money or their parents just flat out refuse to buy it mainly because of M-rated games.
Well... I do know that when Poketman comes out on the 22nd, the DS is gonna skyrocket, but I do have hopes that the PSP will still do well with all the blockbuster games soon to come out. and yes, i meant to say poketman...
We have over 100 pre-orders for both Diamond and Pearl (Combined). I have yet to place a pre-order on a PSP game in the last month and a half.
I hate to see the PSP get blown out like this because IMO its the better handheld in terms of variety, graphics, and versatility. As much as I try and push sales for the PSP its the always the same things that changes peoples minds i.e. m-rated games and price.
It seems that the only thing to seal the deal on buying a PSP for customers is when they see me play Super Mario 3 on my PSP during my lunch breaks, 80% of the time they cough up their savings for a wii, 360, etc to buy a PSP and mod it like mines."
umm... what does this have to do with the "upcoming/rumored" psp phone?
Everyone (except dumb fanboys) know the psp is doing badly but why should we worry? We have homebrew. This camera/psp is horrible, i will not sell cause of it's size, there's no way I'm gonna take out a cellphone the size of a home phone from my pocket to answer calls, that just looks wrong.
or .... you can use a wireless headset.....
Of course it would be cool but it would be better if sony comes up with an update that has microphone support, and with that would come PSphone also.
Yeah, it wouldn't sell.
For starters, the price would be ridiculously high, i mean at the moment most people i know aren't prepared to pay for a good phone (eg. K800i) let alone a PSP-Phone which would EASILY be more expensive than the K800i
That's the magic of contract phones, you can update models pretty much on a yearly basis.
In its current state I don't look forward to the PSP holding back portable gaming device functionality. If Sony won't give the PSP the redesigning it clearly needs, someone else (I'm hoping Microsoft) will step up, and offer a better solution.
These are the adjustments the PSP needs to stay competitive, if not, adjustments someone else will offer.
* Dual Analog Sticks, and two more trigger buttons
* IPOD-like hard-drive capacity (40+ GB range)
* 128+ Megabytes of main memory
* Bluetooth, and improved wifi
* Premium Cellphone Functionality with Microphone
* 3+ Megapixel Built-in Camera
* Mobile Broadband support
* 20+ hour full workload battery capacity
* Touchscreen
* Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse accessories offered optionally for use with web browser, and first person shooters.
* If included, free up the UMD format so people are given the option to record their own content
* Better compatible software options that not only offer a solid operating system for general users, but also encourage people to make personalized homebrew. Of course, all this would include such things as video voice chat, and a solid web browser with all multimedia functions included.
* Support for various flash media formats of all sorts, not just Sony proprietary, as was done on the PS3
* Motion sensitivity, as well as optional rumble pack accessory.
* If it is to be a PSP2, then of course, next gen graphics, as well as backward compatibility with PSP, PS1, and PS2 (PS2 media can be sold in whatever new portable media format Sony chooses to go with).
* Optional accessory kit that allows users to display their PSP2 to a high definition screen in 480i/p, 720i/p, and 1080i/p through use of an HDMI, or composite output
* 7.1 surround sound digital output jack. If it's not built in, an optional usb accessory psp kit can be fashioned to allow users this same high quality sound ability.
* Then of course, never forget, that while offering this great abundance of necessary options, the design of the device must remain above all, very sleek, and sexy.
If we're talking by 2011, getting all such features into a portable device with competitive price range, will not be a problem. Apple's IPhone, a similar reaching device, will be released this June for $600. Many good smart phones already go for such a price. I can see Sony upping the ante with premium featured PSP for around 300 bucks, certainly by 2011.
Either way, by then someone will wise up, and put all these high-end graphic capabilities with all such functionality into a multimedia pc communication device the size of the psp. This, I also wouldn't mind, as Microsoft could make the software to go with their Vista/Xbox Live environment. Having multiple computer vendors in on offering their own versions of such a platform would also help to keep the costs low.
The thing is, though. Sony already has its multiple technology departments, so it's definitely capable of being leader in such a market. It just has to be willing. It has the advantage of offering users mixed functionality with all other Sony devices, as was done with their portable location tv player.
i doubt that even by 2011 they can make a portable device with graphics that are on par with the ps3, besides, with all that graphics power being used, the battery wouldnt be able to last very long, also, the backwards compatibility with the ps2 is ridiculous, no portable device can hold a dvd, and to put 4.7 gb games on the psp2 would just not be rational, even with compression, most of your other suggestions are good tho
The way processing power is being scaled down to smaller form factors, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony was able to get at least near next gen graphics (certainly better than PS2) on a next gen portable. As for battery technology, it's also always improving. Portable devices demand them, and that's just the way the market is heading.
PS2 compatibility is not ridiculous. Flash memory sizes are going up, and if Sony was to include a new Ipod size drive, fitting in such a game would be very much possible. As it is now UMDs hold 1.8 GB max. Next gen UMD could hold much more, and I wouldn't put it past Sony to be able to make such a medium. Micro Duo flash memory format is also slated to fit 32 GB. That's micro. Standard size could be formed to hold more.
Ideally, what a next gen PSP 2 would mostly be used for, is as an all in portable powerhouse communication device, sort of like an Xbox LIVE service on the go. You could use it to download purchased games off the Playstation store, to download HD movies, play Home on the go, etc.
dual analog? 20+ hr battery? bluetooth keyboard/mouse? high-def output? surround sound? that's ridiculous to think that these things will be in a HANDHELD device. this is why they make a ps3. the psp is supposed to be a portable device, not a console.
The ps3 is powerful home console with great potential, and a next generation PSP 2 would complement it greatly. A few years ago some people would say the same of a powerful portable device such as the PSP, or IPhone, yet they were still released.
I still dont get the article 100%. is it a new phone or is it the psp?
it's only rumor. why the hell everybody's very concern about it
Hey i'm on my third S-E phone, (a modded W810i), and I know that unlike Nokia, S-E for the most part has been able to produce a consistant product that has all the small things that make a phone A PHONE. Given, the W810i is loaded with a crapload of features, but yet they still managed to execute an easy to use phone that owners of junk like the LG Chocolate, envy.
On this note, I'd consider it highly doubtful that S-E would waste its time on a full gaming device, like the ill-fated N-Gauge because they know better. Its not possible to create a phone that's both usable and aestetically pleasing, while making it a gaming console as well.
I do see Sony Ericsson rolling out more powerful smartphones, but not in the genre of Apple's "all style, no functionality" category. Yes, we'll see high performance 3G phones with video and limited gaming support, but not a full gaming platform, not from a phone, it doesn't make sense to go arcade style and try to still be a phone.
It is possible to create an aesthetically pleasing portable phone/gaming device. A PSP will be like a next step up on the smart phone, where it's not quite a laptop, yet not just a phone either. Today's portable devices are becoming all-in-one media capable. The N-Gage lost because of poor design, and poor marketing strategy. What they should have done with the N-Gage is present it in gaming stores alongside the DS, and gameboy options. The phone ability on the device could have been an optional aside for other functionality. It just came out too soon, and it wasn't a good gaming platform. I would've taken the GP32x over an N-Gage anyday. A PSP 2 would work well as a device with mobile broadband, and skype support that also allows users the option of inputing a sim card if users so pleased. As for putting the PSP 2 up to your face, it wouldn't be necessary. Optional bluetooth headset would remedy that issue. It would also work great with mobile broadband gaming.
If sony bring a PSP2 out they should put a sim card slot in the back of it enabling people to text and talk from their PSP!
If its marketed as a PSP and and as an extra feature you can put a sim card in it and use it as a phone it will sell buckets.
the problem with the ngage was it was a phone that could play old games. thats why it bombed
you know what they should do, release skype software on it free calls over the wifi connection or something like that!

i luvd the psp and i love talkin to my boys so this better be wat i expect it be
mm I have that phone in the picture. And it's pretty darn amazing. I like having that and the psp separate. so then I can take the memory card from the phone and it's 2.0 megapixel camera and then view all of my pictures easily on the psp's gorgeous screen.
So...I like things the way they are personally.
for it to be amazing it would hav to be symbian....all ericsonn phones apart from p series are crap...
can you imageine holding your psp up to your ear as a phone u would look silly and it would blatently be on view and easy for someone to chav.
Ok, i've been reading the comments here and this is just crazy guys. I dont know (and none of you either) if the PSP will include a phone in the future, maybe it will.
In my opinion (and I have used a N-gage also) I would not like to hold that huge thing against my head. Some people may like it because they like having huge things against their heads, but it wouldnt be something for me.
I didi think about it and my ideas are as follows:
- An updated version of the PSP, with a better browser, the possibility of playing online while talking to your opponents like possible in FIFA online on PS2. This would be the shiz as you would be able to play a game at a hot spot and actually talk to the person you are playing against on the other side of the globe, all via IP. Sweet!
- As for the phone part, maybe Sony will be able to forward the audio from your phone to the PSP and create the option to answer your phone while listening to music, watching movies or playing a game. (possibly using bluetooth technology) The scenario would be that the sound of whatever you are doing will fade while a ringtone and small menu lets you know that a call is coming in. After answering you can continue watching a video or playing your game normally while having a phone conversation. After hanging up sound is restored. Phone and PSP will still be separate but can work together which is great.
- Another idea would be to actually include the phone in the PSP and including a headset and microphone to answer calls. Bluetooth or regular using regular headsets. They may also consider the option to use it without a headset for the big-thing-against-the0head lovers out there.
What do you think?
Peace-out
MH
