This is the worst "guide" i have ever seen. He doesnt explain how to actually use the hex editing program to change the values. Noobs arent going to know where to find the correct values to change. Come on man, all you did was vaguely explain how to change the color and the shape of the waves. I think the most intimidating thing for the noobs is the whole backing up there rco file, opening it in a hex editor, finding and changing the values, and then flashing it back to there psp. You didnt explain any of that. This guide is a joke..
Hats of for this QJ been looking for clarification on which offsets control what. I dont think this guide is stricktly aimed at n00bs, using a hex editor is common sense just look on wikepedia if your not sure or google it.
The values that change the shape of the wave actualy go from 466 +> 946! just thought Id share that ;)
i agree...this guide doesn't really help alot...
I was wondering if anybody knew where you can download these wave effects or get the codes to put into the hex editor. Any ideas?
how does this work on psp can u turn into a .rco????? coz its a .bin file and it wont work with a .bin file
well, i wouldnt consider myself to be a n00b, but i am truly stumped with this. Please include some steps on how to actually use the hex editor :P (Ive never used one)

Another offsets in decimal are:
9309 - 22885 control the fluctuation of the waves, very easily disappeared if wrongly tuned !
After thickening the 4 waves, tuning around that area can smoothly brick the waves into many many waves. I manage to brick them from 4 thick waves to 16 thin waves and all fluctuate very smoothly.
Been looking for offsets to modify wave movement:

Ooh, I like that!
Any chance you should share it?
i really like that, good job, any chance of uploading somewhere like rapidshare, id really like that on mine?
After you edited the "system_plugin_bg_deflate.bin" with a hax editor (with hex workshop e.g.) run start.bat, then you'll end up having "system_plugin_bg.rco"
its hex you dumb F*CK!
How do you get a black wallpaper?
What happens if you change theme in XMB(VSH) menu?
Does the waves apply to all wallpapers or only the ones in themes?
it applies to themes, not wallpapers. you can change the color by changing the values shown in the tutorial. by trial and error i guess, u get the correct color.
Ive been waiting to try this but my psp is out of commission as i wait for my new faceplate to arrive...
PS come to think of it, you could try to look at the file after changing the themes on the psp to get a ballpark of in which regions the colors lie. i hope this is not too confusing. correct me if im wrong...
LPU plzzzzz sent your rco. file, share it somewhere. It looks so cool!!!! :O or sent it to my mail blazydk@hotmail.com
could you send me that wave my email is knowleshockey03@yahoo.com
where do u find the rco file? i dont no where Flash0/vsh/resource is.
if ur using 3.03 OE, you could use the usb interface in the recovery.
"We thank the man for the effort - a lot of noobs here are grateful."
This guide is the worst I have ever seen, it doenst tell you how to do anything, just tells you to back up your flash and what patterns you can make. It tells you all this in the readme file in the program. Qj are getting lazy these days. they even posted that fake gamecube emulator on the psp done by a 12-14 year old kid on the site.
I have found the "ofset decimal option" but i dont know how to do it between 530 and 716, i dont have a clue what that means, just a bunch of random numbers.
never used a hex editor in my life, im so frustrated on how qj is thanking this guy for "helping noobs", when its just a useless guide.
for those who dunno wat is 530 and 716, here is a noobs style of explaination. when u load up system_plugins_bg.rco using hex editor, u'll c 3 columns.
Example: (XX - 0 - 9 n a - f) n (kQp - watever worms characters generated from XX) - not real n no particular order.
00000140 XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX kQQQQQQQQ
00000150 XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX QQQQQQQQp
u can either search value by hexadecimal or decimal. 530 n 716 r decimal value. assuming k has a decimal value of 238, then 1st Q next to it is 239 n p has 255.
so folks, when u look for 530, it's the starting value for controlling the shape of wave. it starts with 01 01 01 02 02 02 03 03 03 ..... 3e 3e 3e 3f 3f 3f.
u can see tat those characters come in triplet. the 1st 01 gives blue color, 2nd 01 is green n 3rd 01 is red. so if u wan yellow, fill up 2nd n 3rd value with somthing else such as 01 54 54 02 47 9f 05 5e 05
hope it make sense for u guys. happty editing !
Ok basically the readme was scant of information was because we didn't know everything that we could do at the time.
Luckly we can do a lot.
its still hard, the characters make no sence, its like looking at an encrypted prx, and you can just search for the specific code. gui would be nice, where you can like choose some premade colours, shapes and styles. if some one that can code thinks its a good idea please give it a try, cuz i cant make heads or tails of this.
Im just going to download a wave off the forums, this guide is utter crap.
First you have to be on a custom Version... The Latest at the Moment is 3.10 OE-A'
...
You can upgrade to that from a 1.5 PSP...
Second... You have to get a 01-12.bmg... to change your original Sony Backrounds " if you like to that black backround"...
Third... You have to look for rco and 01-12.bmg "like the black i have" on the Internet... "to google is the best solution. etc"
If you have everything...
go into recovery advanced (start psp hold r button down)
Advanced -> Toggle USB (flash0)
makes flash0 accessible as USB device just connect to comp
make a backup of vshresource !
on your computer and then replace it with the desired 01-12.bmp and/or system_plugin_bg.rco
Thats it...
dont know how to use the hex editor
alright i'm confused. i know how to hex edit since i do it all the time for my phone but this confuses me as to what firmware you have to run.
I'm running 3.10 US official from sony. will this work on that? and if not what firmware do i need to run.
and secondly, does this have any risk of bricking your PSP, cause i dont feel like buying a new one anytime soon.
Hey guys, can anyone tell me how to get a balck backround so that I can see my custom waves more clearly? If someone could tell me how that would be great. thanx
