It's official: Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion is coming to the PSP. Now, since Oblivion is one huge game and there's just no way to squeeze it all onto a handheld, Bethesda's decided to make a few changes. The PSP version is going to be a very different game with a very different storyline. Basically, the PSP version of Oblivion is going to be a dungeon crawl across 10 large levels.

The developers have decided to remove the wide-open, explore-the-landscape experience and simplified the controls, so some fans might get disappointed. Still, the gameplay will be strikingly similar to the original. All the core attributes and perks as well as most of the skills from the original game will be in the PSP version. Great news indeed, most of all for fans of hack-n-slash dungeon crawlers. This is definitely one game to look forward to.

The PSP version of The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion will be available sometime in 2007. In the meantime, check out the scan from the November issue of the Official Playstation Magazine below for some screenshots of the game plus the magazine's interview with Bethesda regarding the PSP version of Oblivion.

» Now thats something i want.

This is what i like of the PSP,it has all the games i want in a way or another.

I was playing Hexen on my Pc and i was thinking wow it would be awesome to see this game on the PSP,also i saw the South park Wow episode and i wanted to play that game too. Then i find stuff like this,it looks like WOW and plays like Hexen.

PSP FTW!.

(I have never played oblivion but i know its good, its cool to see stuff like this on the PSP,specially when they are Original Games and not ports.)

This is excellent. I've been playing Oblivion on the pc for months now and its a truly amazing game. I hope they manage to implement the ability to transfer your character between the PSP and the PS3.

This is so *****ing Bull***** I want the SAME EXACT OBLIVION from XBOX and PC wtf .... No free roaming ? This game is going to suck donkey ballz big time .... Who cares if you cant fit it all on one UMD. Use 2 or 3 UMD's then. Make the game worth buying. Taking out free roaming is the worse thing they could've done. Forget it. This game went down the ***** hole. The free roaming is what made oblivion what it is today. The best RPG to ever come out. When u take that away. U take away everything.

Why make the exact same game for PSP? With such a realistic goal as this it could be very nice and I'm looking forward to it.

Taking a game like Oblivion and making it level based does not work. Battlespire anyone? After Daggerfall, Battlespire was terrible. Level based spin offs of free roaming RPGs does not work! Oh well.

A free roaming PSP Oblivion would have been amazing, but yet again PSP gets an a lot weaker version of a great console game.

 » waa?

No freeroaming?

Controls have been stupidfied???

I feel like this game is going to suck... :(

Pokemon DS sold 1.5 mil in 1 day.
Oblivion X360 didn't sell even near 1.5mil, in a year.

I'm 26 and have 2 x DS and 2 x PSP. PSP is for any age, DS is for any age although I do prefer my DS as it has better games for it.

 » Disappointed

The graphics look cool, but I'm quite disappointed that the game will not have free-roaming landscapes. I thought that this Oblivion PSP game could have it, because certain games, such as GTA LCS, had huge free-roaming worlds, so I thought that it would be possible. Actually, I believe that it is possible, but the developers are just not willing to invest in developing to that extent.

This game had me intrigued, but, without the free-roaming world, I am not very excited for this game anymore. :'(

PUT THE DAMN GAME IN 2 DAMN UMD's!!!

Sorry for the caps, but this pisses me off

 » sucks...

that sucks ass
we need just a lowered graphical capable actual obvivion, bethesda could compact 5gb into 1.8 for play on the psp, just lower graphics, and take out minor and useless quests... its possible and a let down when great cames become dungeon crawlers...

 » wow

they are finding all the reasons in the world to make games crappy on psp... I dont care what you all say... Killzone for psp sucks and they are now gonna let sony publish elder scrolls games and deface them! I dont give a crap about great graphics. If this game isnt just like the pc and xbox versions, then it is a disgrace!!!

Sony just finds new ways to ruin all the great games...

 » Lame.

great... I wanted a real RPG for the PSP that was really good quality from a good company. But, this looks well lame...
besides, where has the idea of 'travels' gone?!?!?! if you don't ever travel anywhere and just stay inside a dungeon?!

How Lame.

 » stop whining!!

Are u stupid? Have u ever deleloped for the PSP or a similar console / handheld?
Especially for the PSP its just not possible to get the same game in like it was on PC or XBOX.
The PSP might be great, but it just doesnt have enough resources and power to do that.

So before u complain and cry, wait for the game. Who knows, it might actually be good?
Sure its not gonna be like the original game, but give it a chance before u start whining! *sigh*

» Instead of dumbing down TES IV...

If the PSP can't handle Oblivion then they should have ported over TES III: Morrowind. That game would have worked just fine on the PSP.

   by Silverwolf (Unregistered) - 2006-10-06
 » PSP and its specs

I'm afraid, you are wrong Vol Prime.

Even for the size of Oblivion the PSP just doesnt have enough RAM. Not enough Power, not enough Resources.

Dont get me wrong, the PSP is a great Handheld, but games like Oblivion and Morrowind are totally off the scale!

Believe me, I do develop games... ;)

 » @15

PSP kills DS is good games hands down. DS just cannot compare to the psp, it just has the cult following because of its monopoly on hand held games for so many years. People need to give the psp a chance, because it makes the DS look like a child's toy.

 » nuts

ok that sucks

they should get rid of the title if its not the same they need to do more then just add "travels"
it should have nothing to do with the name "obivion" hopefully they change that before launch.

I'm not a huge fan of Oblivion just couldent get into it. and since it took so long to walk around i dont think it would be a good fit for the PSP on say a bus trip or something. but still sad that they couldent just scale the gfx, poly count, back enough so that it could run. and more then 1UMD would totaly be better then a butchered game on 1UMD

This is... god dammit, I was looking forward to a portable free-roaming RPG. Thanks for the nerfhammer, Bethesda.

They're taking away the best parts of the game just to make it on a portable. I aint buyin' in.

the game will be the EXACT same thing, just without the freeroaming. dont forget all the quest are still there....

» why do they always have to do this because they

are a bunch of lazys asses. I mean come on they could of put a moorowind game on the psp look at how much content R* is packing in gta vcs. Now R* is aculy puting the time and effort into GTA VCS. vcs is going to be huge now why cant bethesta do that. why do developers have to always rune great games. For example look at the god father psp game it started out as being a free roaming GTA type of game and looked realy fun but than the develpers for that game changed it into a non free roaming game and made it into lvl after lvl. The developers runed a good game and cut it down into dog *****. See I love R* because they always make there GTA psp games like a consol game and make the world hudge and the missions long. In my opinion the perfect portabe gameing system would be portabe but at the same time have the games be as long and as deatailed as consol games. well maybe not to that exetent but what Im tryin to say is that all the developers need to put as much effert into there psp games as R* does. I mean when you play GTA VCS your goin to feel like your playing it on the ps2 but your not its on the psp the reason you will think that is because they put 110% into there games. vcs is goin to be a hudge game with lots of stuff to do. now If every developer would put as much effert and time as R* does than the psp would blow the ds away.
