It is cool and when your psp is stolen you better hope it works... But if the psp is trying to acces the internet your firewal wil say that it is trying, so you hope the thief selects yes to.
Seems it uses the default internet browser, so unless they have their firewall block their internet browser then it will work ;)
suppose it does work and everything goes as its suppose to go, how could you trace the ip address to his real address?
what should really be done is have this installed on your psp's flash. that way it would always work no matter if the psp has a memory stick in it or not. also the theif wouldn't know how to remove it off the flash in theory. an even better idea would be that the special flash remover program for it would be password protected so only the person who put it on in the first place would know how to take it off. and a backup plan would be to upgrade the psp in order to overwrite the flash in case someone forgot thier password. in that case who would want their psp back once it's upgraded to far.
cool btw if the thief has a firewall or autorun disabled its useless
my psp was stolen from my backpack wen i wuz at school and i had the v.3 loaded on and then i lost hope after all teahers said i shoodnt have had it and they woodnt help me find it...so anyway i got home and went on aim then it said i had 1 new email so i clicked it and logged into my aim email and then it gave me an IP address and a XXXXXX@cox.net email i noticed that XXXXXX was a kid from schools last name so i sent an email to that address and his dad responded i asked if he had found a psp and he said his son had found it on the fround...i said...uhh well its mine...he asked me how i knew he had the psp...i told him then I gave him my address and he drove it over to me!!!! This app saved my psp!! THX U REALN0WHEREMAN! U SAVED MY PSP
IM DEF UPDATING...AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK U WILL SAVE MANY PSPs!
die much?
You are really lucky +) Just be more careful wit your psp next time lol
All a thief would have to do is format the memory stick and no more ATPSP. Like another poster said if this could be installed to the flash memory there wouldn't be any problem.
Yeah that makes sense but 99% of the time the person is going to plug it into the usb to erase it in the first place.
Disabling autorun disables the attempt. I disable my autorun as its annoying and dangerous (you know how you pop in a cd and it runs the sofware or scans files and asks you for an action when plugging in ANY storage device?). All you have to do is search google for how. Tweak-XP can do this, I just use gpedit.msc (group policy editor) since I have XP Professional. I recommend it.
The thief could just disable their internet connection before plugging it in and then delete it and reconnect.
if people dissing about this.......this is for stupid thefts that is not very smart hackers. lol
While all of these things are true, the average PSP thief probably won't know about all of these things. One probably wouldn't think to turn it on and check to see if it had this program or disable their internet connection.
How about a real password-required app that uses custom firmware?
i have one pretty much made but i cant compile it. ill wait till i get a mac so that i can compile it to make it work :)
Yeah thats true that someone would plug in the usb to formate the memory stick but what if someone just formates it on the psp it's self from the system menue...what then. From what I understand you don't need a PC to format it like that. but like striker1211 said a custom firmware password would be great. Even better if it inculded the Anti Theft system so it's all in the psp's firmware so even if the supposed thief reformats the memory stick or disconects his internet the system would always work. In theory he would have to keep disconecting his computer everytime he hooks up his psp to it since he wouldn't be able to remove it from the flash with out the firmware password. and the only other way to remove it would be through darkalex's special downgrader since it use's the custom firmware which can't be overwriten by a normal sony update since DarkAlex has removed that ability in the custom firmware. Now that would be a total fool proof ANTI THEFT SYSTEM. I just hope that Bawls take's that into consideration on his next update.
Just wanted to say that I like what is app does even if it requires certain conditions to be met. It's always good to have it installed, just in case. What I don't like though is the fact that previous versions wouldn't work because I am sure that right now there are people with previous versions installed who are thinking that if their psp is stolen, that they have a chance of recovering it, and would be angry to know that they lost that chance (as slim as it might be) because they had an older version and did not know of the newer version.
ok past versions dont work because i never had a host. i had to rely on some other person. it constantly went down so i just hosted it myself and changed the code.
TO ALL WHO ARE LIKE WELL OMG WHAT IF HE FORMATS... I SAID THERE IS NO GUARANTEE ON THIS. THIS IS JUST TO HELP IN THE CASE OF A STOLEN PSP. IF U DONT WANT SOME CHANCE AT GETTING UR STOLEN PSP BACK THEN DONT USE MY APP. SIMPLE AS THAT!!! IM SICK AND TIRED OF NAY-SAYERS TELLING ME THAT THE THIEF WILL FORMAT OR TAKE OUT THE MEM STICK..... WELL THEN TOO BAD UR PSP WILL BE STOLEN. I CANT HELP IT. IF I KNEW C I COULD CODE SOMETHING THAT WROTE TO FLASH AND THE IDEA HAS BEEN PASSED AROUND. i have something written that puts a pass on the psp but i cant compile it so ill wait till i get a mac to compile.....
I tried to plug in my psp after I put on the app but I says cannot find autorun.bat and I cant see my files
jake, copy the autorun.bat from the downloaded folder then try putting it in your psp. if it doesn't work, try to use fileassistant or format your memory stick.
