 Activision Blizzard President and CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement earlier that he plans to abandon Sony's PS3 and PSP platforms unless Sony drops the PS3's price and reduced its licensing fees. Sony's reaction: we're not reacting on that one. Speaking to the Times Online, Kotick said that his company's main concern right now is Sony: I'm getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don't make it easy for me to support the platform. It's expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation. They have to cut the price, because if they don’t, the attach rates [the number of games each console owner buys] are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony. When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console — and the PSP [portable] too. Kotick added that Activision Blizzard paid Sony US$ 500 million in royalties and other goods last year, which probably still worked out at 400 percent of the profit they made. SCEE, for their end, has issued a statement regarding the matter: We respect our third-parties’ opinions and their right to express those opinions but we will not be commenting on this story. Now this is getting all heated up. I wonder what Sony's bigwigs are thinking right now. Stay tuned. Related articles:

In my collection of over 80 PS3 games, the following are Activision titles: Spider-Man 3, Quantum of Solace, Call of Duty: World At War, + Guitar Hero: World Tour. Out of the grand total of FOUR Activision games I have, I actually like HALF (that would be 2!). ..Activision, go blow yourself some more. Nice try, but I hope Sony actually INCREASES the license fees for you (and your company, alone) after that rude public lip-service! :-)

Well it depends on the licensing agreements because if Activision is paying Sony more in royalties than they are making in profit, that is the real problem.

The PS3 is a very good system, much more powerful than the other 2. btw, which console did you own last gen? Probably a PS2, but if not you owned one that wasn't in 1st place. Was it a bad console?
Activision isn't going to do a damn thing. They can't afford to lose the PS3 owners.

They just want to scare sony into a pricedrop, which is what I truely hope happens. I love activision, and if they actually do drop the PS3, then so be it. I will just buy my activision games for my 360 then. But I really do hope that sony just drops the price... then maybe I could get most of my friends onto playstation network, instead of live, as I do have killzone 2 and want to play them. any ONE company that "breaks up"with Sony will be bad for both businesses. I bought the ps3 when it was $500 with the backwards capability and it did hurt me to pay that much....
Realistically they do need a price slash to keep it around the same price as the 360 and wii so that people wont go for the price, just the variety of games and such. Also generate more titles at a lower price for all.

Being that both the FAT and NTFS formats are both Microsoft creations, FAT they've made FAT available for everyone for years, but NTFS is theirs and theirs alone. NTFS was developed with Windows NT technology and is a closely guarded trade secret. Although Sony could purchase a license to use it, but I highly doubt they'd want to do that.

They have never made a dedicated game for the PSP, as all of their titles have been multi-platform yearly big-hitters. This year's Transformers is an example. The last time they made a game for PSP, I believe, was in 2007.
So yeah, that makes it less of a "business" decision and more of a threat/hit at Sony.
