PSP owners who want to maximize the power of their PSP by using Sony's portable gaming powerhouse for every application and external device imaginable can now have something new to try out.PSP coder deniska managed to put together a GPS set-up using a PSP Slim, in conjunction with GPS devices such as Holux GPSlim 236-240 and M1000-1200. The set up involves using a cable similar to the the one used by the PSP's remote accessory cable (the cable with control buttons), and deniska was kind enough to provide a diagram on which inner cable gets connected to certain parts of the PSP's remote cable accessory jack. You'll also need the following prx module to execute the DIY project. Download: PSPGPSlim Check out the Read link for more instructions on hooking up your PSP! |

Back in the day, in some backwater places, only the cool kid gets to have a gaming system. Today, it's either you've got the latest high-end console or you prefer sticking to retro. In other words, video games can almost measure your machismo. People in Amsterdam have a similar idea - the PSP in the Netherlands is a fashion statement. Some models during the Amsterdam Fashion Week walked the ramp carrying PSP units with "Go! Cam" attachments. We do not know if Sony is behind this, but we can say that a portable 1.3 megapixel camera with a microphone, 180-degree rotating lens, and huge capacity that can hold 40,000 images and about 2 1/2 hours of video is very sexy. Oh, the models are pretty hot too. |

Enterprising PSP owners may want to put their heads on the shoulder of a Sony Exec and cry, especially since the GPS attachment for the PSP is selling very briskly. Finding one is certainly more difficult than some would bargain for. If you've got a Japanese PSP that is begging for a new enhancement, then you may want to check Play-Asia for some goodies. |

We all like mods. Heck, they make life more interesting for us, and for our PSPs. But how serious are you exactly? If there was a mod-boy award to be given out, would you be in the running? We all know how risky the mod business is. It ain't for the faint-hearted. You gotta have a lot of faith, first, in the developer, and second, in your own skills.
Well, Joe Stranger sure had a lot of both, and if there was a mod-boy award, he definitely would be in the running for it. How come? Just check out this compilation vid of all his PSP mods. He's got the blue WiFi LED, the blue Memory Stick access trigger LEDs, the analogic joystick add-on, and the Xbox jewel complete with blue LED blings. And you know what the best part is? His PSP didn't end up like some Frankenstein. Now that's talent. Good job, dude! |

Sony stops at nothing when it comes to marketing gimmicks. We are already aware of the GPS and camera capability that will come soon on PSP -- something we think that Sony does only to make the PSP more appealing even to non-gamers. Consider, for example, the golf players. They won't normally buy a PSP just so they can play Hot Shots Golf, but the PSP's ability to actually provide all the golf data that they need in a real Japanese golf course may be indispensable to them. The PSP then turns into a personal golf assistant.
In Homestar: 21st Century Navigator, the GPS lets you get night sky data. Again, this function may appeal to stargazers and astronomy hobbyists and not just to players. But about the most gaming use we can find from the GPS system can be found in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. The GPS function allows you to take advantage of Wi-Fi hotspots to earn powered-up bonus characters that you can use in the Comrade system. Then again, Konami has mentioned that the GPS can be useful in other fields as well, such as education and services. The GPS is one thing. The PSP is another. Put these two together and you got something original, and it's a laudable effort from Sony. But the question is: will it sell? |
