The movie in terms of storyline was not up to par to even get an oscar.
The movie was more appealing to the eyes then anything else. But that didnt stop millions from getting it.
Its a great movie to show off because of the visuals, but other then that, for the satisfaction of a good storyline, this movie just pales in comparison.

Meh, I like the Fullmetal Alchemist movie better. The story was better, the dialog was better, and the scene where Wrath fights Gluttony kicked ass. Aside from the fight scenes, I wasn't crazy about Advent Children. FFVII is extremely popula-...no, overrated.

Secondly, it wasn't THAT good. Sure, I liked it, but it was no masterpiece. Action and visuals were good, plot was terrible. I was also severly dissapointed they decided to "modernize" the characters. I'm not sure what people were expecting here. It was what it was - a two-hour action addon to a game that had a 30+ hour story. Maybe FMA should have won as it was a good movie, but FFVII/AC just has more fans.

The movie had some nice action sequences, music and it looked great. The story was really lacking, but it was only 90 minutes and they decided to focus on children and new characters (which was a shame, since they were paper-thin in substance).
Not sure what Advent Children was contending against (nor do I care to check), but Square-Enix was lucky that 2006 didn't have much to offer, or that "killer anime movie" wasn't included in the nominees due to some unexplained reason (read: money).
It's a fun movie, but it's definitely not something that I would remember dearly in my heart for a year.

and yeah... the movie was ok... i love cgi, so visually to me it was awesome... but hardly the greatest film ever, and whoever put together the english dub should face a firing squad... there were... what.. only 3 voices done well in that? but the overall mix was horrible. sjb is freakin awesome, but ill never listen to the eng dub again..

The CGI is brillant and close perfection, but, it's a crap film. no storyline, and really boring. It's reminds me to MI:2 or Matrix Reloaded. it's like a music clip of 1h 40min of duration, really boring.

I personally believe that Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa, deserved the award seeing as it had... ya know... a script. And a director. And a point.
However i do think FFVII: AC deserved an academy award nomination for best soundtrack.
It doesnt matter anyway, The american anime awards are a load of crap. Fans vote for the winner, rather than people who actualy have good taste. Im surprised Naruto didnt sweep. Also "Akira" was nominated for best Anime movie. AKIRA?
