There's only a few more days of waiting left until After Burner: Black Falcon
hits store shelves. With over 30 types of aircraft to choose from and
30 full missions, can you feel the after burn on your calloused thumbs
yet? Sorry, but it's going to take more than just good flight skills
and finger-work to shoot for the skies.
While the bootleg video of the GDC demo got some of you wetting your pants (or at least maybe a certain QJ blogger), here's another one from the dev conference - this time un-bootlegged. Looks a lot better now, doesn't it? It features the dog fighting gameplay you can expect in a high-in-the-sky action game: blow up planes into scraps of metal, dodge oncoming enemy fire, and while you're at it, string all the nifty combos you want. Update: Just a few screenshots from a recent post-GDC press release. Click on the "Full Article" link for more. |

Too bad fellow blogger Chris L. isn't here to cover this piece of news. We bet he'd be peeing in his pants once he sees that we've just stumbled upon this After Burner: Black Falcon gameplay vid straight from the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Yeah yeah, so you've already seen tons of other gameplay vids. But because this one's from GDC, it could very well be showing off the game's latest build from its current devving stage. It would've been way cooler though if we got a glimpse of how the jet customization feature works, but hey, we're not complaining or anything. Just seeing this vid is enough to reign us in for a bit more whilst we wait for the game to hit shelves March 20th. With 30 missions, 19 different fighter planes, multiplayer support, 13 fighter jets, and loads of other cool features, Sega's After Burner: Black Falcon will send your PSP-playing hours skyrocketing. So strap yourselves in, click on play, and feast your eyes on the video that Destructoid's Nex shares with us. Enjoy! |

Has the world gone mod-mad? First, Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception allowed you to tune some of its exotic jets for the desired effect (usually along the lines of "aerial massacre"). Now, IGN reveals the extent to which Sega and Planet Moon are giving After Burner: Black Falcon players the same option, too. Has the sky turned into the next territory of conquest for tuner heads? There are three categories to choose from, two of them cosmetic: skin (paint job), bolt-on (akin to body kit pieces in the grounded tuner scene), and functional. Here's the list IGN supplied: Skins
Functional - upgrades to Cannon, (ground-attack) Rockets, Missiles, and Afterburner. |

After Burner: Black Falcon surely is getting closer and closer. And what could be a better way to wait for it than to have some nice previews via ten new screenshots, huh? And that's exactly what we have for you today. So if you thought you've had enough of them dogfighting actions, you're dead wrong. Look closely at these images and see for yourself what you'd look like if you don't pilot your way around the courses smoothly enough. See that thing above? From afar, it does look like some kind of giant robot on fire. This writer thought so, certainly. Or then again, maybe that's just the price she has to pay for losing her glasses... Anyhoo. That ain't a robot, as you guys with 20/20 vision could clearly see. That's smoke with fire on a burning aircraft. Sizzlin', eh? So, if you don't wanna get fried, you might as well beat the other guys to it and do the frying yourself. We've posted quite a lot of guides and whatnots already, so it really is just up to you to use them wisely. More for you after the jump! |

Alright, heads up all you old skool gamers out there. We have in our hands yet another gameplay vid of your classic 80's game, After Burner: Black Falcon. Yeah, we know you've seen tons of gameplay vids already, but have you seen how to work and pull off combos in the game? Nah, didn't think so. Aptly entitled "Combos," this gameplay vid here shows you how you can get new planes by shooting down jets and other enemy planes. If you read up on our rides and environments article, you might even be able to recognize and name the fighter jets featured in the vid. So if you wanna find out how the combo-pulling tricks work in the game, just hit play and see if you can pick up some pointers in time before the game's release on March 20. Enjoy! |

Can't get enough of After Burner: Black Falcon, can ya? Same here. So imagine our bliss when we found this gameplay vid floating around on GameTrailers.
We've given you tons of goodies for this game, including trailers, screens, and info. But because we know how it pains you to keep on waiting for a game, we thought we should constantly inform you guys on whatever stuff we stumble upon lest those withdrawal symptoms start plaguing you again. Harhar. On the bright side though, we have to wait just a month more before we can grab copies as After Burner is set to hit shelves March 20. That said, here's a glimpse of what you can look forward to seeing on your handhelds soon. Enjoy! |

We've been yapping about how fun After Burner: Black Falconwill be, especially with the featured in-depth customization of 19 officially military planes. So how about we finally take a closer look at these planes, eh? And that's exactly what we're bringing you today. But not only will we be shedding some light on some specific flying wonders, we're also throwing in a look at the environments that you'll be cruising through.
So, let's get started. Ryan Kauffman, Planet Moon producer, gamely provided details on After Burner's aircrafts. According to him, they wanted to use real-world, licensed aircraft. Not only that, they also had to take into consideration the fact that the franchise is strongly associated with the F-14 Tomcat. This is where they had to balance things out, especially with the introduction of a whole new stale of fighters and bombers. Calling it the holy trinity of the game, he identifies the F-14X Tomcat, the F-15E Strike Eagle, and the F/A-18E Super Hornet. These beauties are assigned to different playable pilot characters, but not without having their compatibilities taken into consideration. Pretty much, you can say that these three are the cream of the crop. But they wanted to throw in some more flavas, hence the expansion of the club. Bringing in the SR-71 Blackbird (otherwise known as the fastest jet in the world), along with the F-4 Phantom II from the Vietnam-era, the F-22 Raptor, and the F-35 Lightning II, the star-studded aircraft stable is now riding high. But that ain't all, my friends. They also brought in some "underdeveloped prototypes" such as the X-36 and X-29, as well as created their own mythical "assassin jets". Now, these newbies, so to speak, are equipped with handling characteristics and are found to be among the speediest models. Now, let's go have a survey of the environments. To get there, just click on the Full Article link. |
