Alek - Action replay or how to use something that is not yours - Image 1 Alek, Dark AleX's webmaster, has come upon some information about Datel's Action Replay for the PSP that you might want to know. Suffice it to say that you're really better off with CWCheat.

According to Alek, Action Replay uses code from other developers, interferes with Custom Firmware code, and compared to CWCheat, takes up a lot more memory and has a pretty small database:
  • Datel' Action Replay does uses code that isn't from itself, code that isn't distributed to be used the way they use it anyway. The code involving this terms is, for first instance, the Pandora forged IPL block, and on second place but of course not less important, Booster's IPL SDK.
  • It has been confirmed that Datel' Action replay does interfere on the Custom Firmware code
  • They use a bigger memory footprint due to the graphics involved in it, and it's interesting also to mention that they had a pretty small database, that being compared it to cwcheat one, this first one isn't even a database tbh.
Dark AleX himself confirmed these. Looks like the guys who chose to stick with CWCheat were right on the money. On precisely US$ 39.99 worth of money, which is what Action Replay is going for. It seemed pricey before, but now it feels like you're just paying for packaging.

Thanks to CJ for sending in the tip!

 » Rip Off

Datel like to steal everything from CFW. For instance, pandora,, now a cheap version of CWCheat.

I guess the good news is that people running CFW will be reading news places such as this and will probably have decided already NOT to buy it.

So, I guess its good then that the people buying this wont have known about CWcheat, or CFW and then this product will work just fine for them. These guys WILL make money off this product. People like us just wont be buying it.

 » lawsuit???

Can't Datel get sued for stealing the code they use in the Action Replay?

It seems, as time goes by, there products are becoming more crap than useful.

 » nope

who will sue them? Dark Alex? Team N00bz? Sony will f*ck them over if they reveal themselves...

Remember, homebrew is not copyrighted or anything. Its completely open and considered by some to be illegal.

DARK ALEX AND TEAM NOOBZ (not all)

have revealed themselves, sony wont sue any of them, because its not worth it

their could be a lawsuit possible, depending on its licensing, im not entirely sure how free licenses work, and which if any was used, even then its still murky, i think they could have a case

also if sony could sue dark alex over this, why dont they sue Datel, as they are doing the same thing,

its because they cant, they could try but then its not worth it

» Too bad they ALREADY DID

They already revealed themselves. Sony knows full well who they are, as do many sceners. Fanjita, for one, came right out with his name and occupation. Homebrew IS NOT illegal, so all Sony can do is not honour any warrenty requests from them and watch their handheld be jailbroken.

» saying your name is one thing

but finding the correct person with that name on planet earth is something entirely different.

 » Time to boycott Datel

Well, if Datel can't be sued because of this, the only thing us sceners can physically do is start to boycott everything that Datel makes.

Unfortunately, there will be some people who will require their pandora battery.

Back in my early days of computing on C64 (1989, 1990 etc) Datel was actually very respectable amongst sceners for their Action Replay Cartridges and Burst Nibbler Copying Software. But now all it seems they can do is STEAL other people code and put a price tag on it.

» Anyone remember the Media Manager Max for the DS?

Datel's selling point on that was that it could play emulators, watch movies, listen to music, etc, etc, etc.

But if you look at it, there was honestly nothing on there that Datel provided that could do any of that other. Everything that was put on Media Manager Max was solely from homebrew people who were atleast trying to make sure the people who bought it didn't get assraped as bad as they did.

It's just pathetic how Datel literally puts no work into anything they do anymore just to make a buck. Datel is one of the worst companies out there now days. I never use cheat devices, but I did hear that back in the day the Pro Action Replay was some of the best out there. Some people I knew liked PAR while other people liked GS better.

 » strange...

The strange part about that device for the DS was they sold it at the walmart by my house.I was amazed that walmart would carry something like that when they fear lawsuits so much.( I know homebrews not illegal) but it may have seemed they were promoting pirating or something. Well I just wish they werent such a rip off company and would use their own work. Its not fair to the devs that worked really hard such as alek.
