pspuaeRemember PSPUAE? In case you don't, PSPUAE is short for PSP Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator. It's a program created by our man Fcorbier that emulates (you guessed it!) the Amiga 500 video game machine. PSPUAE debuted in June 2005 much to the delight of retrogamers who also love their PSPs. Since then, it has been updated several times. And just when we thought we've heard the last of it, Hungry Horace from pspuae.com announced the PSPUAE 0.51b. It's good to know that Ric and FOL have kept the emulator alive!

The new version features:

  • 4 channel sound mode
  • Savestates re-introduced
  • Kickstart Rom Selector
  • Firmware 1.5 compatibility
PSP Key Controls

Top Left Trigger= Left Mouse Button
Top Right Trigger = Right Mouse Button
D-PAD = Joystick
Analog Pad = Mouse
Square = Activate Keyboard
Cross = Left Mouse Button
Circle = Right Mouse Button
Triangle = Hi-Res Mouse Movement (Lets you move mouse more precise)
Home = Exit (As normal)
Select = Options Menu (Tweak Settings)
Start = Screenshot (Takes a screenshot)

I'm gonna try and see if this plays Loom. if it does oooh hell I'll be excited. If you havn't played it I suggest giving it a try. It is interesting to see how far adventure games have come. It's a little slow paced but great concept having to use musical scores. Yea I'm old sue me =P

 » ScummVM for Loom

For Loom, use ScummVM with the Amiga data files. For Sierra's SCI stuff, the amiga emulator is probably still the best. Especially, since FreeSCI doesn't really work very well even on the PC.

Seriously, I keep coming to this site, constantly looking for that breakthrough that's now inevitably going to come for 2.7x users... All of these new homebrew releases sure are teasing me even more.

Thought this one was dead cuz the forum for this EMUs website hasnt work.
But now, this is great.
Thank you!

and people that has never heard of Amiga, or just leave stupid comment. Think about it like a SNES, but with better sound and games, haha.
And really, like comment #11, if you dont care about this one or other EMUs (or homebrew), why bother to comment? Idiot. Register member and still doesnt know this isnt a site that just posting "breaktroughs".

 » taken over

The project has been taken over by RIC.
It's also here: http://www.djcresswell.com/amigaonline/
and there's going to be a new forum for all your questions. Right now, the emu works great but the sound is the problem. It's making the emu to slow down. Hopefully this is going to be solved in the future. You can play lots of games really well when you play without sound.

pfwah, who cares about games like Zool, Gods, Populous......

what about demo's? Does this little EMU emulate the AGA chip as seen on the amiga 500? Copperbars? Hmmmmmm, now that would be something. Never owned an Amiga 500 (would have liked to, to complement the c64 :P), but the stories I heard about all the hardware exploits (copperbars, 4096 animated HAM mode stuff... and all other kinda things)...

Besides, "we" have the Amiga to thank for a thing called Protracker, the start of the mod era.

at #21: The amiga got pwnd by the DOS machines? Hmmmmm, it sure took a long time for stuff like Soundblaster to get mainstream... early 90's? PC's got pwnd by the c64, NES, Amiga and sometimes the ST too :P

It's good to see this emulator updated again. Only the newer Amigas supported AGA graphics, the 1200 and 4000. Unfortunately they couldn't upgrade the performance fast enough to keep up with the PCs and Macs.

 » It's alive!

Hell, I thought that the project died already. I even suggested to Zx-81 to take a try on that one, seeing how incredibly well he handles accelerating his emulators.

So there is developing it after all?

Work on SPEED, guys. "4 channel sound mode" is cool and all, but PLEASE make it faster. Playing Wolfchild on the go is the reason why I bought my PSP. Make it happen.

And if you don't know how... ask Zx-81 for help. Knowing him, I trust he will handle that.

 » Not a games machine exactly

Thanks to the developers for making this happen, your work is appreciated.

In the article text you call the Amiga A500 a games machine. This isn't quite correct, and although most people used it as a games machine it was at the end of the day a "proper" computer like your PC or your Apple Mac.

For those who are too young, don't know, or have forgotten: -

The original A1000 It was originally intended to be a business machine but due to not supporting a IBM compatible DOS this didn't work out in the long run. The A2000 incorporating a NewTek Video Toaster was used extensively in the making of the original Babylon 5 series and Seaquest DSV. The A500 was the home users version and apart for some differences in expansion systems these two machines were pretty much the same.

Work uses aside it did rock as a games machine and had a massive catalogue of games, demo coding groups, and a large fantatical user base. It was good enough to have had a life of 8-10 years in the computer market pretty much unchanged from it's original incarnation. It was pretty much the PSOne of it's day (but with a keyboard). It took the PC market years to come near it in terms of bang per buck and quality and quantity of games available. Whatever "pwned" means the IBM PC never did that to it; You take a PC from 1986-87 and try to play games on it like the Amiga had. The biggest difference was the price when you spent 2000 GBP on the PC and only 399 - 499 GBP on the Amiga "Games machine" you be rather gutted.
