I work as a games developer, and have revealed all sorts of info on this blog. I think its all been ignored though. Readers here prefer to discuss press-releases and marketing figures. Anyway, if anyone is interested to know how serious Sony's problems are, consider this. There are virtually no PSP or PS3 games being developed in the UK. ...Nintendo had sent Wiimotes that plug into Gamecube devkits to all registered developers. Instead of forking out thousands of quid to Sony for devkits that they still weren't releasing, studios were coming up with innovative Wii ideas. Instead of training coders to program the world's most complicated Cell processor, the Gamecube team just switched to the Wii. |

i hope u die
Give the ps3 some time people! It will be a great console! Even if its not first this generation IT''S GOING TO HAVE LOT's OF GREAT GAMES!
The Anonymous Dev is obviously a noob, the N64 was the greatest console ever. And if he's says the GC was a flop, why is it a good thing that you need one to program for the Wii?
Case in point, he's a noob, I recommend that he /kill
Are you high?
Yea I'm high, got a problem with it?!
Also, N64 owned, It was seriously the only reason why consoles have become such big business.
did he forget... KILL ZONE 2 (or 3) which is taken as secret weapon of sony in online communities which is developed by Gurella THE UK based company...
This guy is idiot and dun believe, unless he comes out and proves who the hell he is.
Explain to me unless this DEV watches over ALL THE OTHER DEVS, how he knows that people are abandoning it? This is some pretty retarded news, considering the amount of slander (There are virtually no PSP or PS3 games being developed in the UK. ) and a bland summary of this posts "Sony Products" when they only talk about the Ps3, this post can be considered alot of lies.
he forgets the fact that the PSP has been coming out with some amazing games recently, and still has a great list of games coming out in the months to come. The PS3, ya, hasn't done much yet, but I can't say much for the Wii at the moment either, or X360...as none of them really impress me. Ya, beautiful graphics, but so what. Wii has Zelda, PS3 has Resistance, X360 has Gears of War...but I don't see many others games that are completely over the top, and Gears of War doesn't really impress me all of the much anyways. Lets not forget that the Wii had one of the (if not the) worst rated release of games in history...so I guess that Wii remote doesn't make horrible Gamecube games anymore fun... I've given up on the "Next Gen," and I am staying with PC gaming and the PSP...for these are the only two worth playing games on anymore ;)
You forget the DS. That thing is pretty bad-ass.
You are a F/U/C/K/I/N/G Moron
the ds IS pretty badass.
PSP: Photos Music Movies Games Web
DS: Games Web(Maybe movies in the future)
PSP doesn't really have 'awesome games', sorry, they're good though.
DS: Your RPG God Gaming System on the Go!
Seriously, the DS does have a great library, the good ones and """"majorities"""" in my mind are RPGs though.
But Sorry to say to get your use out of the PSP you have to know what you're doing(or can do in this case).
As for the DS, I await for FFXII-2~
"Instead of training coders to program the world's most complicated Cell processor," pussies, always taking the easy way out
My sentiments exactly
That line alone makes this guy lose all credibility.
1) The PS3 is easier to code for them the PS2
2) You should know how to program. Sony shouldn't have to teach you...with free dev kits.
3)I know there are other Cell processor types but I really doubt this is what he was referring to. I'm pretty sure he just meant that an 8 core proc is hard to program for. If he can't be bothered to proof read how can he expect me to believe him?
JD, you have no idea what you're talking about. Stop confusing those that know less than you.
Reminds me of all those lamer Visual BASIC 6 'programmers' who were up in arms over the move the Visual BASIC.net. Some old dogs have such a feeble grasp on computing that they can't learn new tricks. I've been a C++/asm coder for 20 years and I can't wait to do some coding on the PS3 to learn about it's potential.
Ouch! That's a bad sign for the PS3 if true. PS3 still showing signs of another Sega Saturn.
MS execs claimed that HMDI isnt need for HD DVD! where the hell have they been! its a little something called audio.. and its come a long way but you need either HDMI or multi-chanel analog neither of which the 360 has. So have fun without HD audio on your crippled HD DVD player. PS3 may not have multi-channel out but at least it has HDMI which may not be supported by many recievers but IS however digital audio therefore less artifacts when compared to analog audio. In conclusion I claim 360 as being rushed and PS3 as being underdeveloped.
Gaming console Matt. Games. Not movies. Go find a Blu-Ray thread.
blu-rya is a disc storage format, not a movie format.
Discs are made to store data, movies just happen to be a big part of the word " data"
blu-ray is good for games and movies, your just a 360 fanboy.
"PS3 still showing signs of another Sega Saturn."
And the Wii is showing signs of another GameCube... literally!
First, its HDMI, and second. Neither the x360 hd-dvd or ps3 blueray output TrueHD Audio. X360 Digital optical out vs PS3 HDMI digital audio is basically the same. Both are DD5.1 (Well Ps3 does 7.1, but not TrueHD standard) both are Dts and THX certified. If you want trueHD sound, you need a player like the HD-A1, which has 7.1 analog outputs which are TrueHD standard. The only benifts HDMI has over component is. 1. You cant output 1080p via component (on the 360, only via VGA) and you cannot upconvert macrovision protected dvds to 1080i over component, only HDMI. For a gaming system, HDMI, HD-DVD, and blueray are not needed. And do some more research on Analog vs digital data before sounding completely uneducated with comments like this " digital audio therefore less artifacts when compared to analog audio" which is false. A TrueHD analog signal is night and day better than any DD5.,7.1 dts or THX. And fyi, both the ps3 and 360 have digital outs. (Said it before, but just making sure you understand)
Nintendo stands for no-friend-O. An for a long time they have been bothering customers with lousy systems, I seriously don't know how they are still making money. Probably from all the younger customers, and people who buy it for young ones.
And I dont know whats up with those controllers, are they triying to tire us out?
Silent_volume@hotmail.com
"And I dont know whats up with those controllers, are they triying to tire us out?"
No they're trying to get you to get some damn exercise you lazy bastard. Maybe that's why Dance Revolution is fun.
Also Matt, HDMI technically isn't needed for HD-DVD. It's only for privacy protection if movie studios choose to use it on HD-DVDs. I haven't heard of the copy protection being used on any movies yet. HDMI has no picture quality advantage over VGA or component with 1080p supported TVs. The 5.1 DD sound is good enough for me and not wasteful of disc space. It also doesn't require a $1,000 sound setup.
Also I consider the XBOX 360 primarily a games console. It seems the PS3 is primarily a blu ray player. PS3 will only be cheaper than stand alone blu ray players for so long then what? Will sony have to make it into a games console and provide better support for games?
this is a bunch of bull
Bull i tel you.... Bull !
havent u guys heard of all these demands sony is giving to it's 3rd party developers? we know sony are *****s to us and why wouldnt they be to their 3rd party devs? plus havent u guys noticed that no new games have really even been for the psp recently? the ps3 has some but none for the psp in the last month or two. it looks like the tide has turned against sony, nintendo is comin back. who doesnt love the innovation of the wii? i myself own a psp and like it a lot, but i'm tottally seeing a decrease in sony's gaming department.
you can say the samet hing about releasals for every console. its called the holiday lull... and devs are just now (mid feb) releasing their new games. so what goes true for the psp and ps3, also goes true for the wii and 360... very few releases
what MrTummy said is true, any one can see that. Look, pretend for just one second that you arent a fan of any specific console, for some this will be impossible, but bare with me...
Now, I want you to look at the ps3 through the eyes of a non-biased person. The ps3 is expensive, in fact, the most expensive. If you were in the mind frame that Ive laid out you would say to yourself that its too expensive. Too expensive means less adopters of said console, less adopters means less money for making the games if you are a dev since less people will be in the market for the consoles products. Less money, and most expensive to own...
Two wrongs dont make a right.
Now, if less people are there to buy your product then that means less money you will make if you do create something for the system, especially if you create it exclusively for that said system. Now, mix those two problems with a highly complex processor with limited tools to help create games with. The outlook on making a game for this console is starting to look bad, right? This is the reason the ps3 will fail, plain and simple. The fans will not admit it, but if they were honest with themselves they would see it is inevitable.
That is the reason why devs are abandoning the ps3, and why the ps3 will sink into the category that houses other failed (but brilliant) consoles such as the N64, the Sega Saturn, and a handful of others. You have to look at the big picture, not just what you favor and what you want to happen. Sony has fans, but so did the Dreamcast and Saturn.
And this is also the reason why ps3 is beginning to see only ports coming its way, because the idea to make a game from the ground up is too risky for most developers. Oblivion, Fight Night, Fear, all just one of many examples of this taking place right now. Will Sony have any exclusives at all? Sure. But those developers are paid by Sony to make the games, Sony is basically their boss, and they fit the bill so there is no worry from the devs if it fails or not.
But what you are going to start to see happening are more ports and less exclusives for sony, and thats a fact wether you like it or not. Its too much of a risk for devs, and without them the ps3 will eventually fail. It happened to Atari, it happened to Nintendo, it happened to Sega, and now its slowly happening to Sony.
you know i really hate to admit it but i see alot of truth behind what youre saying bliz
they won last time bceause it was always the cheapest and thats the way it will always be! cheaper + more sales. cept for bose which has always confused me seeing as their product isnt even worth $100 let alone the thousands that they ask for. their "bass module" doesnt even get down to 40HZ which is an absolute must for bass guitar. most DVD movies have bass at or below 30HZ.
Yea, I dont quite understand the whole Bose thing either. It looks like a radio clock you can get at Walmart for under $10, but they charge an arm and a leg for it.
I also noticed you mentioned bass guitar, are you a player? Ive been playing for over a decade, and own everything from fretless, to vintage, five and six strings, hollow bodies, acoustics. Im a bass fanatic!
PS3, its a game console and a BD player BUT you need a 1080P tv for BD and no one has that kind of money but regardless 360 failed in europe and japan so its all "bad" for everyone cept only neagative PS3 news is spread and there is NEVER any neagative 360 news because its stopped by someone who hates PS3. wtf is wrong with you guys its called a free market! MS already owns all of your computers so whats the point of them owning your living room as well!
I'm still getting a ps3 thought, because all my favorite franchises will come to it. 360 is cool but I can't forgive Microsoft for releasing vista when they haven't fixed xp yet. Wii is going to do good because it's cheap, it doesn't even matter if get crap games like gamecube, because the the alternatives are still too expensive for alot of people. Sure, ps3 and psp are hard to code games for, but I've seen plenty of talented developers say after learning it's easy to do. Maybe these European devs just suck donkey ass.
cheapest? wtf are you talking about the gamecube was always cheaper than the PS2 and still is
the PS2 won because it had the best selection of games
your argument seems logical to me i believe people will still be willing to buy a PS3 though, simply for the fact that it is a blue ray disk player...imagine being at best buy or something and you see a standalone BR player for $1000 but then you notice tht PS3 next to it for $600, what r u going to buy? Blue ray may save Sony, other than that i agree with Blizzard. and one more thing...Wii Rulez!
you are flying off the deep end. Gas in the 90's was 90 cents a gallon, today people buy it for 2 bucks a gallon. So the PS2, that was 299.99 is now 499.99. Everyone screams 600 bucks, you have an option. What more do you guys want!
I meant PS2 was 299 and the PS3 is 499
You are as short-sighted as that 'anonymous' developer (he claims to be a 'developer' anyways, we never know who's behind the curtains). You have to see the PS3 will not stay expensive forever. You and those...developers...are acting like the PS3 will never rise because they had a slow start. Heck every console had a slow start (except the Wii because it's an enhanced GameCube and so they shipped more units). Once Sony starts pumping out more games and cut the price they will be fine. Rest assured that price won't last for long. Sony knows they have to lower the price of the 60GB unit, they are not stupid.
Sony always had complex processors and look at where they are, at the top. Lazy devs is another topic. You talk a lot about sony-risks because of sales and price figures....current figures so let's look beyond the current (and normal) situation. Yeah I say normal because even the 360 had a slow start (and im not even mentioning their technical problems...that even my brother's 360 recently suffered the Ring of Death and he brought that one as recently as November 29).
Just dont count Sony out just yet, it is too early to tell.
blue ray will be like betacam, a dead format. porno industries already choose HD format, and porno is 40% of the market. Sony lost the competition. I'm sorry I like sony but mobile are expensive, MS stick is expensive, PSP is expensive, vaio is expensive. ok the quality is high but not so far from the others. I like my psp but too complex, too copyright, too money... I hope they drop the prices and give users more freedom, I would like to have only SD card, or being able to play mp3 in my walkman intesead of their format...
It's funny how fanboys just scream n00b when someone says something that they don't like...
Why would devs choose PS3 over some other console? Programing is difficult, it takes more time to do it, and time is money... And then again, if they do make game for PS3, how large is potential market? Since there aren't that many consoles out, not so big... It's more profitable to make game for PS2 then PS3... Sony should have waited to have more consoles before they began the sale, at least that way potential PS3 game market would have been bigger.
It's all about money, and not your "zOmG, PS3 rOxXxorzz!!1!11!!! attitude...
Sorry, but you are a muppet! Porn IS on blu-ray. Go and do some searches. I know for a fact that Japanese adult studios are bringing out titles now on blu-ray, go to dmm.co.jp for proof. Now consider the new distribution channel for porn: THE WEB. NOT disc! That wasn't around in the beta vs VHS world. Also, bluray is outsellin HD DVD significantly now. So stop being an automaton and face the facts that your HD DVD player hanging off the side of your 360 is about to become a useless paperweight. But never fear, after some psychotheraphy and counselling and you should be able to pull through.
Just to add to Blizzard's point there, as well as one or two comments made with regard to his post.
Sony actualy loses money off of every sale of a PS3(so I've heard, thus everything following is in part, based on the previous statement), in other words, they're selling the console for less than it costs them to make it. Now, this is obviously to try and get people to realise the deal that the PS3 is, and don't get me wrong, paying somewhere around 500-600 bucks for a BLU-Ray player w/console is a good deal considering that a stand-alone BLU-Ray player can cost upwards to $1000. But the point is that the PS3 is still a lot of money, and there isn't that much demand for it, at least not yet. With low or no demand means little to no sales, which, when a company is already losing money on a product, makes it impossible to lower the price. In order for the PS3 to overtake in this "war", they need exclusives, and they need the developers to make them. But if Sony needs to shell out more money (as some have claimed) to get these exclusives, then they lose more money while the PS3's price stays the same, thus in order to break even, they'd have to increase the price of their console, which is never going to happen, that would be a useful as admitting defeat before the first punch is thrown, it's corporate suicide. The only exclusives that Sony can get at little cost to themselves are their in-house development teams like Team Ico.
Someone mentioned gasoline prices and how if people are able to pay for them now, they're obviously capable of shelling-out some cash for a PS3. I honestly have to say that this statement is false. The rise in gas prices are due to the lack of crude oil. Smaller amounts of an item in high demand cause smart business people to up the price. The more demand, the more people are willing to pay. Not only that, but gasoline is absolutely necessary. Most people need it to get to their jobs, let alone anywhere else, thus, whoever decides what price gas should be during x-amount of time, will up the price, because in this day and age, it's almost as necessary as food. If your family doesn't need to use the car to make a weekly grocery(or however often you go to buy food), then you're one of the lucky ones.
Bottom line is: Gas is a must. Everyone needs it to run their cars. What do people "need"(I use that term loosely of course, everyone has different levels of need) a PS3 for? Nothing realy. It's not a part of must-have living.
As far as HD-DVD vs BLU-ray, my take is that, until a universal format is decided, the little man who can't realy afford to pay 600+ for anything at one time, will wait. There's no point in investing in either format if there's a chance that your format of choice gets nocked-off a month down the line.
It happened to Nintendo, remember when they had cartridges and Sony had CD's.
I think Sony is playing it's own "game".
Jeez just wait for a new system update, and you "devs" may just get happier.
Who knows maybe Sony will send out people to aid these slighty challenged (stupider) devs into making new games.
