Prolific PSP modder and AcidMods member F00 f00 has dropped us a line to let us know about his latest modding triumph. You won't find any of the usual flashing LEDs in this one, though.

This particular PSP mod is a custom-built job commissioned for a girl with limited use of one of her hands. Predictably, that would make it hard for her to use a PSP. F00 f00 says she has some mad skills with a SNES controller, though, and so the SNES gamepad-controlled PSP Slim mod was born. Here's F00 f00's account of the modding process:

This mod was achieved by adding a small socket to the back of the psp ( the socket was sent to me by a friend some time ago so I dont have a part number. I believe it was intended for a cell phone). I taped all of the relevant points on the psp mother board (some of which where horribly close together and tiny. Actually not some ALL of them where), and then ran these to the socket.

I used a file and dremal to cut a whole in the back of the psp and the socket fitted in with a satisfying *click*. I then put together a custom cable and plug that would fit the newly attached socket. This was then wired to the snes controllers pcb (attached directly to the traces of each button. And thats about it.

Don't you just love it when people help spread the joys of gaming? I do. Anyway, F00 f00 also posted a video of the mod in action. Check it out below.

 » Nice but...

Extremely unpractical.

They're practically the same size and shape and the button layout is identical.

Whoops, I may get flamed for this.

 » hmmm...

not to be insensitive, but I couldn't understand how the girl could play on an SNES controller, but had trouble on a PSP... they're the exact same layout (with the exception of start/select)
The only difference is that one has an LCD screen in the middle of it.

yea they r the same shape, but theyre not exactly the same size. the article says that the girl has limited use of one of her hands, which means that she probably uses only one hand. the snes controller has buttons that can all be reached with one hand. so yea it does make a difference. wut u said is pretty much the same as, wow that person is going around in a wheel chair, y dont they just drive a car? maybe they cant? =.= the end

A psp and snes controller and very similar. A wheelchair and a car are not similar at all. You're an IDIOT

The controller is kinda useless, but 5 PSPs? WOW.

Theres one MAJOR difference between the PSP and a SNES controller..
The SNES controller doesnt have the screen that you need to watch to play.
Meaning that you could use one hand to reach all the buttons without actually covering the screen

its cool but wheres the Joystick, she can only play Homebrew
i would like to have that

 » Redundancy

That seems a bit unnecessary because the PSP has the same button interface as the SNES controller. There should be a N64 controller mod though for the N64 emulator though.

 » ha

but the current n64 emulator sucks.

» for those that think its useless

yopu should read the youtube video desceiption...
"Some time ago I was contacted by a nice guy in the US. He asked me wether I would be interested in building a psp mod for his partner. She has limited use of one of her hands and as such cant use a psp, but she can however use a SNES controller perfectly (I've seen it, its quite a talent). So he asked if I would be able to add a SNES controller to a PSP for her.

Well at long last here it is."

 » 8 not 5

theres actually 8 PSPs!!!!! if you pause the video at 5 secs, you see the first 2 that are by themselves, then you see 3 other black PSPs on top of one another and then below those 3 black PSPs, there is a white PSP. then if you look to the right of them, you see 2 other black PSPs, one is on top in the clear protective cover that it comes in when you buy a brand new psp, and then one is right underneith it. all of them are Phats, except the one F00 f00 is using.
