Everybody's got something to say about PSP piracy. Understandably enough, developers and publishers see the issue as a huge detriment. Dissidia: Final Fantasy director Takeshi Arakawa believes, however, that as bad as the piracy situation on the PSP may be, Dissidia is good enough to convince gamers to actually buy the game: We are really worried about this issue [piracy]... extremely worried. The issue of piracy is quite concerning on PS as well and our basic stance is that it’s unfortunate, but what’s been done has been done and we can’t do much about it. We want to stick to a policy of making a game that the player would be proud of owning, so even if you play the pirated version, the game should be good enough to convince them that they should purchase the game. So long as we manage to do that, the issue doesn’t really exist. Arakawa has previously mentioned that they'll be keeping an eye on Western sales as well in order to gauge the viability of a Dissidia sequel. He pointed to two things that helped Dissidia reach massive numbers in Japan: a Christmas release and hardcore Final Fantasy fans. We already have the latter, and since there's no clear-cut release for the game yet, we may very well get the former too -- although I seriously hope not. Related articles:

Purchasing very first prints of any FF title is always worth it.

I admit i download all my games but i'm a very casual gamer and lucky to get 10 minutes on some games, but i have a collection of 23 games that i do regularly replay, games like Super Mario 3, Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter 2 and Final Fantasty 7 and i'm very happy to pay for them.

I have the same problem. I've not had to recharge my PSP in over 4 months.
I own 38 games I can't even play, due to not owning the proper consoles. They are games that I think are worth playing, games like Front Mission 3, which I would have never known about were it not for being able to download and try it. Sadly, buying an actual PS2 and all it needed, just to get and play Front Mission 4, was too large of a disappointment for me to trust buying any game before testing it.

» First day.
I pirated Dissidia the first day of it's Japanese release(which it was released a day early) due to the fact that I'm going to buy the US release first day anyways.
I own 43 PSP games. The only games I've pirated for the PSP other than Dissidia are Breath of Fire 3 and Tales of Eternia because I already own the PSX releases(and the fact that Tales of Eternia is two discs and more memory is saved on the single UMD than having to use two discs.) If Capcom brought BoF3 and Namco brought Tales of Eternia, those would be first day releases for me as they're two of my favorite games of all time.

I am waiting for the US release because I want it to be a surprise for when I buy it. Really, I don't pirate many games simply because I normally don't have any room on my Memory stick. too many SNES games and PS1 games to worry about PSP isos.

I downloaded the iso on the first day of release, and honestly I couldn't figure out what the point of the game was. Maybe it was just the language barrier, but the game was really not fun. If the game were fun, I would absolutely buy it, like I did with Monster Hunter 2g. But other then massive fan service, I don't see the point of this game.

» Resale Value
If games were worth more on resale, I would buy more. After you beat the game in a week and don't play it anymore you lose 60-80% of the retail value which is a big deterrent.

» That's false
You only lose 60-80% of resale value if you sell it to stores like Gamestop, etc.
If you take the time to put the game on Ebay, you'll get atleast 90% of the games cost back. Just keep your games in good condition and label it as Like new or mint.
You're using nothing but an excuse on why you pirate.

I played the the game for HOURS on the Japanese version, and although I could easily pirate the US release, I feel like I should the support the awesomeness that is Dissidia.
Bring on the sequel, SE!

» Same exact thing here.
I have poured an obscene amount of time into the Japanese version of the game, which I did admittedly pirate.
My policy has always been, if the game is worth playing, support it. The two games that really took hours of my life and I thoroughly enjoyed were MPO+ and Castlevania: Dracula X chronicles. The only reason I bought C:DX was because it had SOTN, even though I still use an Eboot.
Some things are too precious to pirate. I own C: SotN on several different consoles, completely legally. I have the original PS1 game, which adds to my Eboot, and I have the XBLA version for my 360. That, and I also of course have Dracula X simply because SotN is included. That is by far one of the best games I have ever played. I replay that game almost every other month just to go through it again.
The point is, my time with Dissidia has me sold, and although I do plan on ripping the ISO for faster loading and convenience with my 8GB MSPD, you bet your genitalia I will be purchasing this game within a week of its release, if not first day.

» Western sales....
Too bad the west are idiots, and would pirate either way. The people on the east, much more supportive, and they actually buy their games. The west, bunch of stealers.

Are you actually being serious there? If my geography's right i believe China's in the East and how much of a pirating problem you think they have.

i dont like the look of this game, i cant see myself paying for something that looks this bad. if they would just stop slapping ff title on a bunch of games that arent overhead exploration that is as non linear as they can make it while including a solid plot and encounters, i just dont care.
i fully intend to pirate this game unless gameplay instantly makes me guilty. I own many psp games, and every final fantasy title so far. if theres a pattern there they can expect my buck, but damn i really dont like the look of dissidia.

I ain't gonna pirate it but I certainly ain't gonna buy it either. Haven't got any bit of enjoyment from anything Final Fantasy related since parts of FFIII/VI on the SNES. Crisis Core intrigued me by not being a turn based random battle crapfest but it's gameplay still got extremely dull very fast. Perhaps if I cared about the characters I might enjoy them more but I haven't found any remotely likable since the SNES one I mentioned.

» Wrong.
Pirates will pirate it no matter how awesome it is. It's not an issue of only buying awesome games, it's the fact that they can play everything for nothing that the care for.
A game could come out that miraculously cured aids, rid the world of cancer and gave you the equivalent of 15 powerful orgasms sequentially and people would still pirate it if given the choice.

» Damn PIRATES!
These Pirates need to STOP!! This Pirating ***** is getting way too out of hand!! Just make the game it self DIGITAL! So that way Disc makers won't even be able to make a pirated version of the game. Digital is the way to go these days.

I'll buy it. Getting the ISO sometimes doesn't give you the feeling that you actually 'have it'.
I think when you get the case and the umd, it gives you this Square Enix feeling. Defently buy it.
