Do you guys know the comic strip Hagar the Horrible? Well, for some strange reason, this writer is always reminded of Hagar the Horrible everytime she sees Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 (PSP, DS) game goodies. And it's not just because the characters are in medieval get-ups, mind you. I dunno, somehow there's something about them that just...fits. Hmmm...*spacing out*
ANYWAY, we have with us right now a new gameplay trailer for Asterix & Obelix XXL 2, which shows our deadly (yet adorably cute) duo taking on Mission Ouifix. Although the trailer is not that long, it gives us a glimpse of various game environments and combo attacks that you can pull off in the game. Originally announced to be released this month, we still don't know when this game from Etranges Libellules will come out for DS and PSP, but trust that we will constantly be on the prowl for more updates so stay tuned. Meanwhile, enjoy this gameplay vid we have for you, why don'tcha? It's not absolutely clear if what they're showing here is the PSP or DS version, but the trailer advertises both versions.

Whew, say that five times fast! These new screens of the game certainly don't look quite as good as the first couple of screens we saw, still, not bad I guess (especially considering they've been blown up five or six times their original size). Quite frankly I'm not expecting much from this game, but it'll be fun to actually be able to interact with the environments and characters I read about as a kid. Screens for the DS version are unfortunately nowhere to be seen, but the PSP version does include a two player WiFi mode and an arena Team Battle mode for up to four. |

Regardless of whether Asterix and Obelix have just been heroes of your childhood or if you still adore them - soon enough, you'll have the possibility to take them with you wherever you go, thanks to Atari. The publisher today announced that enhanced versions of Asterix & Obelix XXL 2, already released for PC and Playstation 2, will come to DS as well as PSP. Taking advantage of the different handheld capabilities the game will still be rooted in the great tradition of parody that runs throughout the stories of Asterix and his friends. The PSP version will include an all-new, 2-player Wireless mode, which is easily accessible and fun to play, as well as an Arena Team Battle mode for up to 4 players. They can pick their favourite characters from the Asterix & Obelix world and fight it out against their friends in action-rich and highly entertaining sessions. A simple multiplayer interface will make sure that players get launched into combat straight away and without complications. Meanwhile, the DS version's strengths lie elsewhere. It will be enhanced to make heavy use of the stylus and touch screen in lots of interesting ways. A number of frantic minigames are incorporated into the main story mode to get you some stylus action every now and then. Additionally, two bonus Wi-Fi games can be played with a friend for extra Asterix & Obelix action. The game is scheduled to launch on both platforms simultaneously: November 2006 will be the date the sky will fall on our heads. We'll keep you posted with new information and screens until then. |
