Asterix & Obelix XXL 2

Regardless of whether Asterix and Obelix have just been heroes of your childhood or if you still adore them - soon enough, you'll have the possibility to take them with you wherever you go, thanks to Atari. The publisher today announced that enhanced versions of Asterix & Obelix XXL 2, already released for PC and Playstation 2, will come to DS as well as PSP.
Taking advantage of the different handheld capabilities the game will still be rooted in the great tradition of parody that runs throughout the stories of Asterix and his friends.

The PSP version will include an all-new, 2-player Wireless mode, which is easily accessible and fun to play, as well as an Arena Team Battle mode for up to 4 players. They can pick their favourite characters from the Asterix & Obelix world and fight it out against their friends in action-rich and highly entertaining sessions. A simple multiplayer interface will make sure that players get launched into combat straight away and without complications.

Meanwhile, the DS version's strengths lie elsewhere. It will be enhanced to make heavy use of the stylus and touch screen in lots of interesting ways. A number of frantic minigames are incorporated into the main story mode to get you some stylus action every now and then. Additionally, two bonus Wi-Fi games can be played with a friend for extra Asterix & Obelix action.

The game is scheduled to launch on both platforms simultaneously: November 2006 will be the date the sky will fall on our heads. We'll keep you posted with new information and screens until then.

These were the funniest comics when I was grtowing up(70's). I can't wait for this to be released. There was a sorta adult version too, where the main characters got laid and drank booze. I will definitely be buying this as soon as that viking hits our shores(newfoundland) for it will be the second coming of the vikings here. (1000 years ago, before columbis hit the U.S., do ur history) YAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!

» Huge fan of the comics as well

I'll most definitely be picking this up as soon as it hits. Asterix and Obelix and Tintin were awesome comics.

They're porting that game?! I really like the comics and cartoons but the game never got good reviews, I wasn't even sure if it sold well. I never got to play it myself, but I'm not sure I'm looking forward to a port of a mediocre game. I'm seriously hoping they addressed the issues the reviews pointed out about the game and tried to rework it. Hopefully working on the graphics since they don't look spectacular either...maybe a little cel shading to give it more of a comic/cartoon feel?

I'm a fan, an American one even, but these games were absolutely terrible.

Well, they were extremely average, but they were good representations of the universe, and for me that's where the fun came in :P
