Common sense, tingling! - Image 1Earlier, we reported on Manhunt 2 being banned from ever reaching UK shores, and Rockstar's disappointed reaction to the actual incident. Now the other side strikes back, with a statement of their own - that there was no political influence over the banning of the title that focused on giving you the ability to kill your enemies as brutally and gorily as humanly possible.

If one remembers previous events involving the first Manhunt, the title was unfairly linked to the murder of teenager Stefan Pakeerah by the media - causing a furor that had the UK games industry left to defend itself, while publishing firm Rockstar stood by and watched.

While it doesn't take much to assume that people are now more wary than ever of a repeat performance, with the sequel bloodier and more violent, the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) stands firm in its statement that it had nothing to do with the banning. BBFC's own Sue Clark elaborates:

That had nothing to do with this decision, absolutely not. We are independent of government and independent of the industry and we reached this decision based on our guidelines and our concerns and not on any other basis at all.

Besides denying that politics had anything to do with the decision, Sue Clark also reminds players that they've banned the game so you can't legally purchase it in the UK. This means that players bent on playing Manhunt 2 can simply turn to importing the game, as the ban itself can't stop import purchases.

First, the Church of England and Resistance. Now it's the BBFC and Manhunt 2. What's next, we wonder? In any case, let us know what you think by your comments.

WTF HOW CAN THEY BAN A VIDEO GAME FOR STRONG VIOLENCE??

does anybody remember playing a game called "POSTAL 2" or the expansion "Apocolypse Weekend"

THOSE were the most violent, racist, sexualy explicit, and crude video games i have EVER seen.

AND I CAN WALK IN AND BUY THEM FROM GAMESTOP.

the violence in those was WAYYY worse than manhunt. and they made killing ALOT more humorous and inappropriate in Postal2.

google up Postal 2 and download a demo or something.

they shouldnt ban ANY game if MOVIES are equaly as violent and explicit.

i feel your ache dude!
i'm very sorry to say that unless people with reasonable minds do sit on those chairs with power, there is nothing us reasonable public can do.
they can force anything to us public whatever they deemed inappropriate.
the biggest problem to these people on office is that , its always what they think and they do not value what the general consumer thinks.

Lol yeah. No one beats deadpool.

But on topic, they banned it and not postal 2 because they blamed manhunt a few years ago for a murder. Obiously Jack Thompson's english cousin.

Sham that the majority have to pay for a idiot that tried to recreate the game. Parents should be more away of there children then having the government set rules for there kids.

 » Why why why

I understand why these ppl want to ban the games, they are the same ones that put their children infront of the the TV and cant understand why the children cant interact with others,
Speaking as a Father(I got 3 Children) I would never dream of letting them play/See manhunt.. this is whats wrong in the UK, all these ppl that dont want the children once they got them, cant be bothered to look after them then the state has to make desisions for them, To be honest, I only checked out manhunt After the kid killed another one and the media said it was manhunt that caused it, but the game itself isnt that good now is it?
also Can anyone remember when a well known national news paper in uk, ran a front page headline of
"Nintendo killed my Boy"
it was back when uk had reports of 5yr olds in the USA getting a gun and shooting another 5yr old becuse they wouldnt let him play on his NES... so the story was actually a child that had a fit after the refresh rate of the TV he played nintendo on, and hten died as a result of the fit, 2months later the same paper runs a weekly article "hints and tips" for the nintendo's

aRGH! after all this if the parents cant take responseability for thier children, they should have them taken off them,

 » Honest question

But honestly, is there really a huge difference?

M = Must be 17 or have parents buy it
AO = must be 18

Its the same thing with movies, except replace M and AO with R and NC-17

Heil censorship!
