Sony PlayStation Portable - Image 1Needless to say, the title says it all. A quick visit to Japan's official PlayStation site reveals the release of PlayStation Portable firmware version 3.50. But enough of our dawdling - here's a translation of this latest release's changelog (pardon the Engrish):

  • It reached the point where you can connect by way of Internet in remote play.
  • Communication setting was added to the menu of remote play.
  • The RSS channel guide was added to the RSS channel.
That's the rough on this latest firmware update - we'll have to wait for the US site to make a proper announcement (and translation) in case more details will be revealed. Do we see new custom firmware in the future?

Kudos to Brian and Legendz for letting us in on this hot news.

do we need to upgrade our psp to 3.50? im running now on 3.40 fw of sony buy if you ask me what i want, i answer i want downgrader so i can put the custom firmware on my psp T_T *sob*

 » .

Well Shuin. You've been stupid enough to update as far as 3.40, you might as well keep going.

   Re: god0fgod - 2007-05-31
 » Annoying.

I'm going to wait for somrthing like 4.00 because I'm kinda sick of installing custom firmwares.

   Re: mykalt45 (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » Not too great

Maybe it was just my connection, but man, I could hardly do anything with the PSP on remote play with my PS3. Hopefully they will give us some hints cause all it did was basically stutter around. Good luck streaming video. Music is a little better. I can't wait for them to make improvements. It's a neat idea, but probably harder to pull off in the real world.

Re: dont listen shuin (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » DONT

listen Shuin if you want to downgrade stay where you are i was at 2.80 and uped to 2.81 and the 2.80 downgrader came out next day, so pissed i continued to up all the way to 3.03 but just my luck the 3.03 downgrader came out, dont listen to snarg, i know its hard wait for downgrader but thats your only hope at homebrew, because if your at 2.81, you cant use a 2.80 downgrader, have patience and one day you too will use homebrew

Keep the lowest firmware possible. ALWAYS. That way if a downgrader comes out and you need to upgrade you CAN.

He didn't give up anything.
He wasn't "loggeg in" as someone else, someone elses name was just already entered in the name field. Plus the admins can see the IP address.

I've had it happen to me every now and then, i think it is a glitch in the way the page is loaded. at first, it will say you are logged in as someone else, but when you post, it will post as unregistered with that persons id.

» a look at our major firmwares:

Well, it's finally here, the big 3.50. Let's take a look at our major firmware updates over the past:

1.50 - first exploited firmware
2.00 - many new features (the most of any firmware to date)
2.71 - popular among the custom firmware scene
3.01 - a few new features such as PS1 emulation
3.50 - the real deal. its all here now!

Sounds good to me!

   Re: Advertising -

   Re: ouasse (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » err ...

- first exploited firmware was 1.00
- PS1 emulation was present in 3.00
- 3.50 has almost nothing more than 3.40. It's certainly not a major update.

is accessing your ps3 remote play over internet not a major update?

   Re: evilscarycomputergeek (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31

no, kuya. Because I can't afford a PS3.

   Re: Silver-Tiger - 2007-05-31
 » ouasse you are wrong

@ ouasse:
you are wrong. 1.00 wasn't exploited.
it was simply open. No need to hack it ;)

so what has exactly changed in this version? it seems like they are running out of ideas for the psp. they should be focusing more on the ps3 firmware right now.

:)

   Re: Kaizer_911 - 2007-05-30
 » changes....

not much, just added RSS Guide under the RSS, and Remote Play over the internet...otherwise not much of an update.

   Re: Bob (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » they need to add...

that you can watch vids from youtube in the web browser

   Re: na2ru1 (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » BOB

i doubt it. PSP wudnt handle Youtube Vids in my opinion - although it'd b ns

   Re: KUYA (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » actually

watching youtube is now possible, access remote play on ps3 and use the ps3 browser instead of the psp one and presto you can watch youtube but yes too many process involve. but its fairly easy. and sadly still cannot play wmv, mov, divx-avi or any other popular formats.

Re: pimpstreamer user (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » pmp

you can watch youtube on the psp using pimpstreamer.

   Re: Networkgamer (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » pay attention

if you have payed attention they have been focusing a LOT more on the ps3 firmware updates, and as a side note new in this firmware is remote play.

   Re: bshdude (Unregistered) - 2007-06-13

   by eddiedamonster (Unregistered) - 2007-05-30
 » pointless w/o ps3

pretty pointless, unless you have a ps3. the rss channel guide might be useful for some. pointless...

   Re: Legendz (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » no ps3 n33ded

you don't need the ps3 as for as I can tell It searches through the Internet for videos then makes a rss feed the results. I had my ps3 turned off

   Re: Networkgamer (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » ...

Rss doesnt need a ps3.what it does is download an xml file, parse through it for new content, and if you click a content it goes the the place specified in the xml file to download it/stream it.you do need a ps3 for remote play, because it needs to listen for incoming connects that require that ps3 to intercept(it does remote play in prmiscuous mode,IE it sees all)

   Re: eddiedamonster (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » wasn't clear enough

i know you don't need a ps3 for the rss guide. i was only trying to say the rss guide was the only slightly useful thing in the update. if i had $600+ i guess i would be more excited.
   by x313x (Unregistered) - 2007-05-30
 » Without a PS3

It doesnt sound like it'd even be worth the upgrade (when oe's released)

   Re: dsa (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » if

that's if DAX does decide to release an OE, i doubt he will, there's nothing important about this update

   Re: Networkgamer (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » remember

remember, dax is the same person that released both 3.30 OE and 3.40 OE,of which 3.4 wasnt much of an update.

   Re: mohaas05 (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » um

Dax is a ps3 owner so im sure he'll release it for the sake of all of us ps3 ppl. otherwise we might get a devhook update but that hasnt happened in a long time

   Re: Viper89 (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » Remember,

Sony will soon require new published games to have this latest firmware for no reason other than to make people upgrade, and then we will have a hacked firmware capable of running all games as well as homebrew.
   by floxnard (Unregistered) - 2007-05-30
 » not sure

I'm nervous connecting my psp to my ps3 with a 3.50 OE on it. I eman even if Dax makes it totally safe, I'm still worried Sony might detect it and ban me. I only use hombrew for Pokemon now, so I'm not sure.
