PM Brown to meet with mother of Manhunt murder victim - Image 1News has it that British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will be meeting with Giselle Pakeerah, mother of the Manhunt murder victim Stefan.

Aside from this meeting with the mother,
Keith Vaz and Julian Brazier from the Parliament are also to meet with PM Brown. They will be discussing about the things they can do in order to have tougher regulation schemes on video games that have high violent content.

Furthermore, PM Gordon Brown is currently waiting for the results of the study being done by Dr. Tanya Byron on the effects of games and the Internet in general on children. New found information from the study will be able to guide them to craft laws or pursue actions on video games.

Regarding the whole Manhunt murder issue and violent games, Vaz said:

Stefan was a young, innocent boy with a promising future. This was snatched from him in a gruesome and horrific attack. I want to discuss with the Prime Minister what can be done to stop these games being sold.

The victim was only 14 when he was stabbed to death back in February 2004. The suspect, 17-year old Warren LeBlanc, is believed to have been inspired by the said game.

I Also Like The Way U Advertise Manhunt 2 At The End :P

 » not really annoying

yea but you see - the problem is that if you have these people in the society who will commit murder after playing a game like manhunt and there is no way to detect such people, you have to ask yourself the question whether you want to make such games available to everyone, INCLUDING those potential murderers.
also, i like the way you start every word with a capital letter :P

when will government officials learn... video games don't inspire kids to kill people... the lack of parenting do.

 » government officials.......dismal......

Since when have video games taking the place of parenting . Its always in every case the fault of bad parents.

oh yeah and go ahead do all your studies, ban video games and what not you 'll find people committing murders at the same rate and when that happens all the gamers in the world will be laughing at you sorry souls

Ok so they blame it on the game for its violent content.. but the game has a 18 certificate or M for mature.. and the guy was 17.. which means either the parent or the shop that sold the game IS at fault.

If someone is influenced that much by actions portrayed in a film or game, then they must be seriously un-hinged.

I've played games/watched films near enough all my life, all from different genres.. hell I thought about doing someone over due to reasons personal, but I'd never actually go through with it.

Lack of parenting, is purely the cause, but until they realise that there's no-one to blame but themselves.. then we are just going to have to humour them.

What's next, ban the News..?

   Re: Woden501 - 2008-03-06
 » Nah... not the news.

Why would they ban the news? The news is how these people are getting all the attention that they obviously crave. I mean what is the purpose of going to meet this kids mom when he has been dead for four years? Its just free publicity.

If they want to really ban something that can twist peoples minds how about The Catcher in the Rye? It supposedly caused Chapman to kill Lenin right? I don't see anyone trying to have it removed from shelves. Its because its a book and they aren't scared of books. These people are stuck in the past and are afraid of the things that they don't understand. They see video games as a waste of time, and have decided to abuse their power as our leaders to try to have them removed.

Also, Reaper is right the game is M rated, so he either had to have a parent buy it for him or the store had to sell it to him illegally. It is the parents responsibility to make sure that kids understand what is right or wrong. You don't just give your kids the key to your car, and tell them to learn to drive do you? No, you teach them, make them take classes, and build up experience before they are allowed to drive by themselves.

I got Halo when I was 13, and last I checked I haven't tried to walk up behind someone, and assassinate them. I've played Assassins Creed, but that doesn't mean I walk around with a knife attached to my wrist lunging at people and stabbing them in the throat. Thats because I was raised right, and I know what is fing right, and what is wrong.

 » Idiotic

It's said life imitates art but that may just be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. If anything art imitates life. Video games are a art form and as an art form they reflect our society. WWII was not caused by a group of people reenacting parts of Call of Duty. The art Call of Duty is inspired by the people and events of WWII not the other way around.
Was 9/11 caused by a group of people who liked crashing planes in flight simulator. Then woke up one day and said hey guys let do this in real life?
Were Jack the Ripper,Charles Manson,Ted Bundy sitting on couch playing manhunt then said to themselves hey this looks like fun got off the couch and started to murder people?
Since the beginning of man killing each other has been one thing we have always done and always will. To blame this on video games is purely idiotic.
If this kid didn't play video games they would be blaming this on the books he read music he listened to. All of these things instead of the parents who failed to get him the help he needed, The bully who pushed him over the edge.
Also this argument that some of these killers play video games so video game made them kill is ridiculous. So I guess give the pope a ps2 and gta and he'll be killing people in no time. Question doesn't just about everyone under 30 play video games? Hey I bet the killer drank water too new fact drinking water causes you to become a killer.
Bottom line to kill someone in cold blood takes a psychopath. To not take responsibility for it takes a sociopath.

 » why

The police said "The motive for the incident was robbery." They denied that there was a link between the video game and what happened.
