Looks like Sony isn't just looking into more PS3-PSP interconnectivity. Down at CES, they demonstrated a new app on the PSP that allows it to run as a Wi-Fi remote control for networked audio streams, particularly those with the Sony-brand audio receiver line. The app allows users to do several functions, like control settings, manage playlists, and browse the audio library via the PSP. The interface is typically the XMB. It's still in its experimental stage, and a public release hasn't been confirmed yet. I can't get myself to be properly hyped up about it since the remote control feature is an old concept already explored by others, like Maestro Mini, so it feels a bit late in the game for Sony to come up with it. Still, it'll be a great addition to to the PSP's features so hopefully they release it to the public soon. |

You can try http://pspupdates.qj.net/MyTunesRSS-v3-0-4/pg/49/aid/101579, though I don't know if it'll suit your purposes.

It seems like the psp is trying to rival the iphone as far as multi-media is concerned. And while each has their pros and cons, and I still chose the psp over the iphone. Sonys involves purchasing additional equipment.
You can use your psp as a remote, to control your ps3, which is networked to your homes central file server. So instead of listening to a small mp3 player hooked up to speakers, you have 3 devices running.
Sony needs to have some media software that runs on a PC that allows the psp to connect to it over wifi and stream audio. Kinda like pimpstreamer, except a much better implementation, non-homebrew (cause they're trying to justify not hacking the psp) and more elegant.
I don't care how great it works, I'm not going to turn on unecessary hardware, just to suck power.

» PSP rival to iPhone?
No, it's the other way around; iPhone is (trying to) rival to PSP.
PSPs could play video and music (with visualizations) long before iPhone even existed.
The PSP can connect to other Sony devices such as PS3, LocationFree, and so on. But the iPhone is... just like an iPod.

» iPhone rivals Blackberry
errr, wrong. sorry guys but the iPhone was meant to gain market share in the PDA and blackberry arena. Apple has no desire to compete against Sony or Nintendo in the handheld market. They're going after the cellular demographic. The games are quick and casual. Personally, I don't think Sony cares to compete against Nintendo either. I think Sony is banking on the PSP's versatility as its main selling point.

Is the PSP does not need anymore of this type of garbage. What the failed PSP needs is GAMES!
It will never beat an Ipod doing stuff like this. This is NOT innovation. The psp did not fail because it was a poor multimedia device. It failed because of ideas like these being presented at a time when the primary user base is being ignored.
When I bought my PSP, it was for the GAMES!
I already had a good multimedia MP4 player that the PSP still to this day cant compete with. And, it's not even an ipod product! As for the competition, DSi/DS present a better fight than the psp. As far as everyone is concerned, the PSP is no longer even considered in the race at this point. A sad but true reality.

Why didnt Sony put 802.11g into the PSP 3000? I think it was really stupid for them not to have.
