PSPThis year's about to end, so we here at QJ decided to be a little nostalgic and make a trip down memory lane. Well yeah, it's about two months and a half 'til 2007, but we decided that our hottest downloads need to be cited from time to time, so this article's all about that. We've compiled a "QJ top five PSP downloads list" based on the number of people who download these nifty apps.

Of course, every PSP homebrew developer deserves applause for taking the time and effort to make cool PSP freebies for the community. The PSP community probably wouldn't be as tightly-knit as it is right now if not for you guys and your efforts. Anyway, this list is for all the curious cats out there who want to know what the most popular downloads are.

Do keep in mind that we're not playing favorites here or anything, and we apologize if we give off any idea that we're leaning towards a particular developer, because we're not. As I've mentioned earlier, we really appreciate all your effort for keeping this community alive and kickin'. These downloads are rated according to their popularity among users, but we admire all homebrew apps and games you guys send in, so keep up the good work!

Anyway, enough talk. You're probably more curious about the ones that got in the list. So without further ado, here are QJ's top 5 PSP downloads:

5) Interestingly, this one's a tie. We have the PSP Firmware 1.50 File (EBOOT) North America and the 2.71 Generic Downgrader both in fifth place. And what exactly are these? Let's take a look (the download links are at the end of the article):

  • PSP Firmware 1.50 File (EBOOT) North America - The mother of all homebrew-friendly firmwares. This baby boasts of language support and homebrew compatibility, so if you're new to the scene and haven't touched a homebrew game/app yet, then you should give this firmware a try.
  • 2.71 Generic Downgrader - Dark_Alex is at it again, and this time, his treat for the whole community is the 2.71 Generic Downgrader. Basically, it downgrades a PSP running on 2.71 firmware and HEN C to firmwares 1.50 UP TO 2.60, and can even reflash the 2.71 version. Cool, huh? However, TA-082 users should take note that although they can downgrade to 2.70, 2.60, and 2.50, they can't downgrade below 2.50. And no, this is not a 2.80 firmware downgrader.
4) Homebrew Enabler for FW 2.71 (Rev C) - Yep, this one's from Dark_Alex, too. As it name states, this app enables users with fw 2.71 access homebrew goodness. Static ELFs can now be launched with this app, a feat that seemed impossible before this was released.

3) Firmware 2.71 - This is the 2.7 upgrade eboot that enables users to download game demos (like Loco Roco and Kazuo) and store them in the memory stick.

2) gpSP v0.8.1/1.50 EBOOTS and source - The latest GBA emulator made by Exophase. A lot of fixes have been made in this particular version, such as the addition of save states and speed boosts. Sweeeeet.

1) Tetris for 2.0-2.80 firmware - FIRST! first!!!!1111111 woot!!! Noobz pwns, suXX0rz.
Ahem. This is the first homebrew made for 2.80 firmware, made by the Noobz team. They are the guys responsible for making 2.80 firmware homebrew-friendly, through the recent libtiff vulnerability exploit. Amazing, eh? Being the nice guys they are, they've also included a guide on how to make "2.80 compatible homebrew". Hmmm... this app definitely deserves a "first post" comment, don't you think?

So that's pretty much it. Hope you guys enjoyed going over this list as much as we did. The download links have been provided, so just click on the links if you don't have these yet.

 » ??? Homebrew list???

If this list is suppose to be about homebrew, why are you listing eboot files? Though they are capable of running homebrew, they themselves are NOT homebrew. This list is bogus!

 » Gay

Gayest list I've ever seen. Where's devhook or eloader? Last time I checked official firmware wasn't homebrew. Idiots.

 » Umm

Does this include all homebrew from before the site change also? It seems MPH's app should be on there.

 » new site

These are all from their new download site (dl.qj.net) as their old one is not updated anymore. So i guess this is just the hottest downloads "at the moment".

 » 1.5 NA firmware?

Is that a North American 1.50 firm ware Eboot or is the japanese eboot? Because they neva had 1.5 North american firmware eboot.

   Re: Eranmane (Unregistered) - 2006-10-14
 » ...

There is no North American 1.50 eboot as all the North American PSPs came with 1.50 (or higher) already.
