PSPYape - Image 1 Zx-81 is letting everybody know that PSPYape Commodore Plus/4 has been updated to version 1.03. This PSP-based emulator was originally written for Windows and Unix, and as the name implies, allows your portable to play Commodore Plus/4 games - credit goes Attila Grósz for this app's original coding.

Going into into detail, this version now runs on the same PSP GPU update he's also placed in his PSP7800 and PSPMSX emulators.

Changelog:
  • New graphical functions with new smoother render modes.
  • It uses the PSP GPU for rendering, it does not run faster, but it's a lot smoother.
  • No need to reset anymore the C-264 before loading a new program
  • (the game will load and start automatically)
  • Bugs fix & Code cleaning
Installation instructions and other important details are available in the bundle's README - make sure to read that before anything else. Also make sure to visit Zx-81's thread over at the QJ forums in case he releases more details. Enjoy your download.

PSPYape

Just two days ago, homebrew developer zx-81 released PSPYape: A Commodore Plus/4 Emulator for PSP v1.0.1, and the Commodore 64 fans were happy with this high-calibre Commodore 64 emulator on the PC port to the PSP. Fast forward to today, and zx-81 announces the release of v1.0.2 for Yape.

The original Yape was created by Attila Grósz, with updating and porting done by zx-81, the man. Here are the changes that the fans can expect in the second installment:
  • Add new screen size (x1.25, x1.5, fit)
  • New icons designed by * gelon *
As for installation, here are the instructions:
  • Unzip the zip file, and copy the content of the directory fw2.x or fw1.5 (depending of the version of your firmware) on the psp/game directory.
  • Put your program files on "prg" sub-directory.
  • It has been developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and i hope it works also for 2.x using the great eloader (0.99x).
On a last note, zx-81 says this will be the last update for this emulator, barring any major bugs found upon use. For further instructions and details, read the README and COPYING text enclosed in the zip file, all ready for your downloading pleasure. Thank you, zx-81!

PSPYape

Zx-81 has been dishing out a ton of updates to numerous emulators in the past week, all of which are well worth the download. He just stopped by our forums to inform us of his most recent release, PSPYape. I'm really not an emulation fan myself when it comes to ancient keyboard-based systems, but I think I might just check this one out since Zx-81 states that Yape is the best Commodore Plus emulator on the PC, and this port is no exception to that great quality!

Yape has been developed by Attila Grósz and ported to the PSP by the porting, and updating-guru Zx-81. This version is a port of Yape v0.32.4 and looks to be the best CP emulator out for the PSP right now! Here's a list of instructions on how to install this emulator -
  1. Unzip the zip file, and copy the content of the directory fw2.x or fw1.5 (depending of the version of your firmware) on the psp/game directory.
  2. Put your program files on "prg" sub-directory.
  3. It has been developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and i hope it works also for 2.x using the great eloader (0.99x) from http://www.noobz.eu/.

PSPVice

Christophe has updated his one and only Commodore 64 emulator for the PSP, PSPVice to version 1.0 today. PSPVice is based upon PS2Vice made by Rami Rasanen. Possibly the most noticeable update is that the full list of compatible Vice games are now compatible with PSPVice, which Christophe describes as "huuuge". Check out the changelog to see what else is new:
PSPVice v1.0 also includes a long list of bug fixes that makes PSPVice much more stable to keep you playing C64 games with no interruption! P00 files still do not work with this emulator, but it's something we can hope for in the future. Download this updated emulator now!

It has been quite a while since we have heard from Christophe and his Commodore 64 Emulator...well now he is back with an update to the PSP Vice, bangin' out with v0.4 Beta WIP (Work In Progress) C64 Emulator. The C64 Emulator for the PSP v0.4 Beta2 is out now. The Commodore 64 was initially released in 1982, becoming one of the hottest computer models of all times and holding approximately 10,000 software titles under its belt. Here's a complete list of what is going on with this one:

Usage :
-CROSS : Fire
-SQUARE : "Space" Key
-CIRCLE : "Enter" Key
-ARROWS : Joystick (use "swap joystick" in menu if needed)
-Analog Stick : Joystick (better than arrows for diagonals)
-TRIANGLE : Display virtual keyboard. Analog stick to move cursor.
-When keyboard is on : CROSS : Press key, SQUARE : Hold shift, CIRCLE : Hold CTRL
-START : Pause
-SELECT : MENU
-L : Quick Snapshot save
-R : Quick Snapshot load

Current Wishlist :
- Assign a keyboard key on unused pad keys (circle and square), like "space" and "enter". Useful keys : Run/stop
- Remove corrupted icon (do not hardcode the emu path)
- Bug : "Load error" appear often. Same error on WinVice with "True drive emulation on"
- Key mapping :
Triangle - Keyboard on/off
Square - Keyboard/Joy Hotkey 1 (set in menu)
Circle - Keyboard/Joy Hotkey 2 (set in menu)
Start + Select - Reset C64
- Add autofire
- Add a small intro during dark screen at beginning
- Optimise a bit to have less slow down (PSP sound function is taking lot of time)
Maybe :
- For info text display in menu, read multiples names (name & name) and put them on 2 lines
- When "shift" is pressed display "shifted keyboard" ==> Ok but need GFX. someone can do this ?
- "Swap joystick" mapped on a shortcut (which one ?)
- When saving, tell if slot are already used or free (display date) (==> No. useless)
- Manage subdirectories into game directory (user can sort games) ==> Too much work

Note : PSP can not currently support warpmode (not far from 100% in warpmode).

PSPViceTitreHere’s another bit of homebrew news we missed last week that classic Commodore computing fans will get a kick out of. Christophe has made quite a few improvements in his C64 emulator since the last time he made an update, and now it supports zip files, CPU clock setting, and a snapshot feature as well as several other changes. Here’s the complete list of changes in this work-in-progress:

What's new :
- Better speed accuracy
- Support .zip files (one or multiple files into zip(s)
- Save snapshot on MemoryStick. Allow 4 saves for 1 game.
- Improved disk/tape browser with screenshots and info file. Can also display .nfo file from gamebase game archives.
- Save settings on exit
- Enable / Disable sound option
- Scrolling in menu
- Cpu clock, 266 Mhz is now available
- Customizable menu font
- Palette support (Vice format .vpl)
- Use Vice1.18 sources (instead of 1.14)

Bug fixed :
- Sound is now better
- Sound is not disabled when loading a quick snapshot

What is still not working :
- problems with "true drive emulation" option.
- True drive emulation is on
