And there we have it, folks! PSP firmware 5.00 is confirmed to go live in Japan some time soon - probably on or before October 15. The screencap shown above was taken from the official PlayStation Store website of Sony Japan. The page discusses how users could access the PSP Store, and in one of the bulleted items, it says that users are required to have FW 5.00 (or higher) running on their PSP. The reason why we say "on or before October 15" is because the PSP Store launches on that date in Japan. SCEJ will then (most likely) have to release FW 5.00 on or before that date so the users can prep their handheld units for PSP Store access as soon as the launch date hits. Related articles:

» it's called the early adaptation
Deal with that. Guess what kid? If you buy a car (say Honda Civic) in the early 80's there is no air bag, no power steering, no power lock, no alarm etc etc. Yet if you get a 2008 Civic you can get some of the above as standard feature. So why are you complaining 1st gen PSP not completely identical to 2nd or 3rd gen?

» They better ...
They better put more stuff in the firmware too, like having a "legal" music "plugin thing" like the music plugin that lets you listen to music in-game, they haven't added much new to the psp like how it took them until like v3.?? to let you be able to listen to music while veiwing photos, like wtf they have crappy additions to the psp's firmware, and they sent out a survey asking why people hack their psps...

» USB Fake Version
Dark Alex released a plugin just for this exact situation. With the plugin enabled, the PSP reports back whatever PSP version number you put in the plugin's configuration file.

» PSP Homebrewing
admit it or not, one thing why PSP increases its sales is due to homebrews specially in poor countries who can't afford umd games. We don't really know whats the strategy

I don't really use OFW, so all this is meaningless until DA makes the M33 version :)
Everything else aside I am NOT playing my GTA:VCS or TR:A in anything less than 333mhz.
