Thanks to a timely tip from bobtentpeg, we've just gotten video evidence of some people turning their PSP Slim's battery into a Pandora battery. The two videos from Xibit1987 and oorganic show off the means by which anyone can use Hellcat's Pandora Maker kernel 3.xx with the Slim battery to create a Pandora battery of their own.

According to what we've been able to find, Xibit1987 essentially began the process by taking a chance with Hellcat's Pandora Making application. You see, Hellcat himself stated that the app shouldn't be used with the PSP Slim battery. Despite this, Xibit (and then oorganic) decided to try it out, following the same basic instructions as the Pandora-making for PSP Phat batteries, and it managed to work.

In any event, here are the two videos for you. You can check them out for more information on how they did it, with Xibit's (the first video) having some audio directions thrown into the mix. Enjoy!

DarkRayne was gonna release a "Tutorial" for this?

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2007-10-27
 » lol

Wait, so all along we simply had to run a tool that was already out?....

Ha ha... Talk about "right under our noses!"

But yeah, I'm guessing dark rayne had his own program for making this kit, and he didn't realize that this'd work.

It's unfortunate that xibit released this info (don't get me wrong; thanks xibit for this info, but I'm just saying it's bad for DarkRayne) because everyone's gonna cry out "You suck DR, because
a. you copied hellcat's program which makes you a copycat! noob!!!
b. "we already have a program! We don't need you!"

However, I hope this makes those of you who yelled at Dark Rayne, calling him a scammer, stfu.

Also, I'm still a bit of a coward (lol), so I don't want to try it until I see widespread acceptance, so just wanted to ask: if we convert a slim into pandora, is there an option for un-pandoraing it?

Or will it be a permanent pandora. I know how fats work, I'm just scared of messing with slim batteries.

Finally, here's why I think it works: the kernel of 3.xx was made to work with slims. After all, just like the slim screen won't play nice with 1.50, maybe the slim battery's eeprom isn't designed by sony to work with 1.50 (you know, I think they used 3.60 to make their own JigKicks/eeprom modifiers). Sure, I sound nooby, but it's the only explanation right now that works.

I hope Dark Rayne releases his projects soon.

try out this guy (only if you don't find a homebrew compatible PSP):

http://stores.ebay.com/psp-unbricker

Tell him "Youarepwned" sent you. However, DON'T mention this new update. The guy still thinks that Slim batteries are unhackable :P Well, then again, this story IS only 3 hours old, so who knows....

But yeah, don't tell him. Let's see if he figures it out on his own :D

Ha ha. I'm smarter than him for once!

   Re: stingray_shrey - 2007-10-27
» so what's the point of this?

didn't dark-alex release an unbricker for the psp slim? What the heck is this for??

   Re: axelixc - 2007-10-27
 » @stingray_shrey

alex released the unbricker but he said only used with fat battery not the slim battery.

so these videos serve the point to prove that unbricking slim psp would not have to rely on fat battery anymore.

read the title of this topic. :)

Regarding my first post... Apparently if I had bothered to watch the movie I woulda known that batteries can be returned to normal...

 » Intriguing

So, if I'm not mistaken doesn't this mean that the PSP slim is now capable of emulating full 1.5 firmware via the pandoras bootmenu extender?

   Re: Testrun9 - 2007-10-27
 » furthermore

If that is true that would mean people waiting to by the slim until it has 1.5 homebrew capability can wait no longer.... Sony's not going to like this, after all the work that they put in to prevent homebrew, they just can't seem to beat the homebrew scene :)

   Re: FreePlay - 2007-10-27
 » You...

are COMPLETELY mistaken. This has nothing to do with 1.50.

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2007-10-27
 » agreed

I hate to say it, but no. See, the thing is that the Slim can already run pandora, so if that was the case, the fat battery would've sufficed. But don't lose heart. I'm pretty sure it'll work.

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2007-10-27
 » oh yeah,

about that comment above... it's a bit ambiguous. I meant to say, "But don't lose heart. I'm sure eventually, given enough review by our hackers, firmware 1.50, or at least just the kernel, will work on the slim". I didn't mean that RIGHT NOW 1.50 would work...

Also, it's interesting how I mentioned a few days ago that if "NJ, strmnrmn and DarkRayne release their respective apps, it'd be a great week." Sure enough, NJ released his emus, strnrmn has mentioned releasing his app, and here's half of what darkrayne was going to offer.... So, let's see if I can push my luck :P...

"Next week would be great if we can get a 1.50 kernel add on for the slim! It'd also be great if we have a full featured version of Dax's TV output! It'd also be great if... um... we get whatever we really want to get ;P !"

Let's see if that works as well. If a 1.50 add on comes out soon, you'll know who to thank. :D

 » phat batteries

you guyz u can use a phat battery to downgrade/unbrick a slim. you can also use team c+d's battery maker on a phat to change the slim battery. i did it. the battery went in akwardly but it works. now i have an auto poweron slim battery
   by FreePlay - 2007-10-27
 » Two things

He never shows the battery. Thus:
1. It could very well be a fat battery with half the case removed
2. It could be hard-modded. This is already known to work.

The PSP starts off turned on. This is a hint that the battery has already been modified...

   Re: FreePlay - 2007-10-27
 » ehh

maybe he does show it.
remind me not to post when drunk/sleep deprived.
also, isn't the EEPROM on the slim's battery read-only?

I'm pretty sure it's him. He's always been mean. It's just that snarg putting him down would often "equalize" him. However, with snarg gone, FreePlay is out to terrorize any noobs that get in his way.

Alas, there are only 10 types of people:

those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Also, to knutselmaaster, don't forget how I started the whole rallying thing for Dark Rayne :D

So, if DR becomes the next Dax, I think he should officially knight me as his awesomest fan/supporter, because i was behind him when everyone else was calling him a scammer.

 » I'm confused

If the pandoras battery is now for the PSP slim then why cant the same method for emulating 1.5 with the pandoras battery and bootmenu on the fat PSP not work on the slim?
I mean he's using a slim PSP and slim battery. So why did you say it has nothing to do with 1.5 and start ranting about the fat battery?

 » Question

Noob Question: after changing memory stick pro duo into magic memory stick and convert SLIM battery into a pandora jigkick battery as this seems to be showing, can that battery still be used as normal or do we still need SPARE battery. And is there any problem using 4gb Duo Pro to do this. I read that needs to be between 256mb and 2gb no more.

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2007-11-10
 » ok

You can use the same battery, but you'll need to return it to normal using the same kit. Just remove the battery, and turn the PSP on with just the power adapter. Then, after it's on, you can plug the battery in, and run the App.

Finally, your battery can be between 128MB to 4GB. As long as the 128 MB one actually says PRO.
   by xi-bit - 2007-10-28
 » yep

you can convert the battery back to normal. and 128 is enough!

But remember this needs CFW to run

And the original thread is on M A X C O N S O L E
