The concept of creating a custom firmware package that will allow the best of both worlds above and below the 2.0 mark has been around for a while. Thanks to GameShark that's all starting to change. He has created the first "custom" firmware package that has all the abilities of a 1.50 PSP, but has the added media capabilities and codecs of 2.0+.

At the moment, you can only run this custom firmware using MPH's Firmware Launcher. Do not try to use this package as an actual upgrade. Here's what GameShark had to say:

Features
1.5 - Full HB
2.0 Media Fetures

This is a Beta If there are any problems Just Let me know

I hope to add 2.0 UMD support to the next release

Also next release will be pacaged so that it can be added to an existing 1.5

Right now you need The MPH FW Launcher

Good point, so PSP Updates should go ahead and start hosting ISO's and guides, I mean either way the same infringements are happening...

Actually ISO's are indirect infringements to sony, and dumped firmwares are direct infringements to sony, so think...

BTW this this is useless, as i said before it pointlessly reformated my 2gig card, now was that really useful...

WARNING!
The RAR File contains Sony copyrighted materials illegally decripted.
That's a fact...

   by Mantis (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

wrong completely it is not circumventing the copyright protection unless you can prove the people getting the file are those who do not already have it to whom the DMCA does not apply which you cannot thusly you are wrong also like you said revers engineering CAN be illegal in rare instances and is ALWAYS circumventable look up modchips pal and have a nice day :)

"We do not support piracy or advocate creation of any illegal software" - A quote from the PSPUpdates post on the news of the first PSP ISO.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but this is illegal software.

It's good to see PSPHacker back to normal again.. I was getting worried with all these lame changes like "pspupdates" and "qj.net"...

I can't quote the specific law for you (I'm sure Google could help you there), but it is illegal to make and distribute copies of copyrighted software. Period. This is why ROM sites are shut down all the time. This is also why PSPUpdates doesn't distribute the unencrypted versions of Sony's updates. The encrypted versions are freely available from Sony and any other website. The unencrypted versions, if distributed, may contain copyrighted materials that could get PSPUpdates sued by Sony. Since we all love QJ.net (why the hell else would you be here?), we wouldn't want them to get sued.

Because this "Custom Firmware" contains several of the unencrypted files from Sony's updates, it could be infringing on Sony's copyrights. Since QJ.net is distributing copies of Sony's copyrighted materials, they could be in pretty hot water, both legally and morally.

Ok to all you people that are b*itching about how the firmware is illegal, just stop. I don't support piracy like ISO, but this is reidiculous. If you don't want pspupdates to let you download *illegal* firmwares, then what will this site do when custom firmwares become a big thing? Everyone will migrate to differnt sites to dwonload those firmwares without dumbas*s restrictions you guys are trying to impose.

And this is a big thing( even though it dosen't work), if pspupdates dosen't have it then aren't we missing out on the best things just because of your legal issues? Stop complaining about this kind of crap..

   by someguy (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

good job. no it wont hurt your psp. no its not a downgrader. no you dont update with it. no it only works for 1.5 and maybe 1.0. yes this is only a BETA. no its probaly not perfect. what else...

   by Cablekevin (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

how to use then ?

   by Jake (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

Former_PSPUpdates_Webmaster is a known troll here. This firmware cannot damage your PSP if used with the MPH Firmware Launcher because the firmware package is being emulated, not flashed to your PSP.

For troubleshooting or other questions, go to the forum thread linked to in the news post.

wow, gameshark said he'd do it and he did :D , i have everythin setup then i get an error message for all the PRX files.. ill chekc over until i have it right, but all the best to gameshark on his releases

I'm sure the Recording Industry Association of America is very interested in PSP firmware updates. At least troll intellegently.

On topic:

"I hope to add 2.0 UMD support to the next release"

Yes PLEASE!

Former_Pspupdates_Webmaster is a lying idiot. DONT LISTEN TO HIM.

MPH firmware emulator does nothing at all to your firmware. It is a simple emulation. so there is no worries with doing this.

I hate people who try to ruin good stuff with immature lies so as to get attention.

Quote "At the moment, you can only run this custom firmware using MPH's Firmware Launcher. Do not try to use this package as an actual upgrade."

This isn't worth squat untill you can flash it. Currently you are better off using the standard 2.0 or 2.50 firmware launched with MPH's Firmware Launcher because they do more than this crippled custom firmware does.

   by Joel (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

Wooooo!

Can't wait for the UMD support

Long live Homebrew!

   by SoCal (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

UMD Movie support is already here using 2.0 & 2.50 firmware running on the same MPH Firmware Launcher as this custom firmware. If you think your going to get 2.0 Game UMD support from this custom firmware you are sadly mistaken.

   by Tung (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

hey does this have a webbrowser??

   by SoCal (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

No Web Browser. Just 2.0 AVC codecs.

   by raigxi (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

yo i cant log onto the forum so ill post here... i know this is a great release, but im aving troubles loading it up on FW 1.5, i have teh folders:
- E:psp/game/mphfwlauncher + mphfwlauncher %

and E:flash0 and flash1

but i get an error when trying to load up, it cant load the PRX files , which im assumin will be the codecs? anyway if im doin anythin wrong please jus say it will help me alot :D

   by mupet0000 (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

Oh yes!! I can see this release getting better and better with every version.

God i wish to see a 1.5 with all the 2.60 features. I have high expectations of this.

(So happy!)

   by GiBBz (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

Has any1 actually gotten this to play a v2.0 AVC coded movie? ive been trying for around 1/2 it boots and everything fine. but it acts like 1.5 in every way
ie in movies: unsupported data
what have i done wrong?

(and i have tried both movie folders, using the MAQ & MV4 names so far)

   by razz123321 (Unregistered) - 2005-12-30

to maker:

can you please add the SXT version changer... cuz than we would mybe be able to boot 2.0 games e.a GTA :D

when booting this... the fw number goes to 1.5 and when using STX firmware changer the emulation stops as it flashes the flash0

sorry for talking crap ( prolly :P )
