Custom Firmware 3.93 screenshot - Image 1

While waiting for the next custom firmware coming from Dark AleX and Team M33, there's one based on the official Sony PlayStation Portable firmware 3.93 that surfaced which appears to be a functional alternative. Only known as CFW 3.93, it's said to be rooted in M33's work and gives credit to usual CFW contributors.

To kick things off, here's the changelog provided for CFW 3.93
  • Uses the 3.93 kernel
  • Implemented all the original custom firmware features.
  • Ability to use the normal recovery inside the XMB by pressing the HOME button:
    • When in the recovery, the system is suspended, and you can change all options directly.
    • All options work immediately, there is no need to reboot (even the Slim's USB charging option)
    • Ability to make a Pandora battery from the recovery, read and restore the EEPROM, etc. Providing that the motherboard supports it.
  • Ability to hide the MAC address in System Information, if you do so, the MAC will show visually as all 0's.
  • Ability to save the savegames in normal format, rather then encrypted (only functions in March33 and Sony NP9960 mode).
  • The native 3.93 pops isn't as good as the previous pops, therefor I hope the popsloader will get updated to support 3.93.
We're yet to get a hold of any confirmation pertaining to who made this particular custom firmware, but Dark AleX and Team M33 received recognition together with Hellcat's Saveplain plug-in. Mathieulh also supposedly agreed to publish this CFW 3.93.

With that out of the way, if you're still wondering what this custom firmware is all about, here's a video demonstrating its features:

   Re: maqyboi - 2008-04-29
 » this is the best..

i've tried it... it really works,... first.. i thought that it only a joke... but iv tried it... it works.. i have 11 games on my psp all works... it's not HOME button when going to normal recovery in xmb its SELECT... after that i realize that there is no 1.50 addon for this CFW then i downgrade it to 3.90m33-3 again... then when im looking here for some updates i read that there is 1.50 add-on for 3.93.. then there i love it... try these 1.... this is the best...

   Re: HxcoredinosXXX - 2008-05-01
 » Just a thought.

I'm not sure if this is the same exact one, but it probably is. A guy that goes by Kratosjohn lays claim to a 3.93 cfw. Just thought I would say this.

Actually I'm sorry he only knows/works with the person who made it, this is also the pre-version.

-so whats the meaning of this?

DAX and team m33 didnt officially made this?

------
lol will wait for some feedbacks b4 upgrading.

   Re: Binary - 2008-04-26
 » No.

DAX nor the M33 Team did not made this.

probably somebody from Team Wildcard or theketchupman.

If I was all you guys, I skip this, you don't want homo recovery mode.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-04-27
 » HAHA

"If I was all you guys, I skip this, you don't want homo recovery mode."

I'm so gonna laugh at you if something happens (e.g. DAX quits and everyone starts using these CFWs, or if this guy is really DAX).. Haha good luck.

   Re: Binary - 2008-04-27
 » ...

I saying skip this version of a unkown custom firmware person.

I not going to update my psp to this and wake up the next morning with a Brick XMB and a Brick Recovery mode. Then I really screw because I don't got a *****ing extra psp to do Pandora.

   Re: pspfreedomfighter - 2008-04-27
 » huh?

u dont need another psp to create a pandora. you can use ur pc and hardware mod ur battery by opening it up

   Re: supersteve64 - 2008-04-27
 » agree

I guess its theketchupman too.
1. Obv the nickname
2. theketchupman created the xmb recovery menus for many other custom firmwares, so he might have fancied creating his own.

now hell, I did not know that hmmm.

I'm gonna wait for some feedbacks too

I'll pass.

 » Not dax...

dax always puts the new m33 on network update immediatly. Network update says i have the newest update, so i'm not updating until the creator is clearly confirmed.

 » .......

i already tried it on my other PSP....it works perfectly and no bugs....al plugins works as normal except Custom firmware Extender...but yah its good....the recovery is awesome....try it guys..

   Re: rakizta77 - 2008-04-27
 » favor

could you upload your flash0 file... i just want to check the files in this custom firmware if you dont mind...

about the video... i didnt see the user access the recovery menu by pressing home button(which is one of the said features).. did he? and about the colorful recovery... that is so easy to do... that's why i am pretty much unconvinced in upgrading my psp... so if anyone already tried it... can you confirm if you could really access the recovery by pressing the home button... or am i missing something here? please upload the flash0 files... any help would be appreciated...
   by aLiEn_wArE - 2008-04-27
 » ?????

no! not the Home Button....im accessing the VSH Revocery menu by Pressing Select Button not the home Button...and i have no such enough time to upload my flash0....but this CFW is cool..but i dont want to install this on my primary PSP...

   by naruto0191 - 2008-04-27
 » this is nice

this works fine but you must press select to go to recovery

   Re: ForteZeroExcell - 2008-04-27
 » vsh

If u press select to go to recovery how do you go to vsh menu??? Or can u not

   Re: billylee8 - 2008-04-27
 » Select for recovery?

Thanks, now I know for sure I won't be using this CFW. Select is the button to take pics + vids with the Chotto Shot camera.

And it's not even 3.95...
   by ajnauron - 2008-04-27
» This was made by "PSPGen"

His site is at http://www.pspgen.com/, its in French though. Not DAX, as said before he puts it on the M33 network update. I'm gonna pass on this one.

   by NdR23 - 2008-04-27
 » Nothing short of Awesome

I had my doubt's at first seeing as how it wasn't released by DAX nor M33, but after playing around with it, it's rock solid, everything that worked for 3.90m33-3, works on here so far.It has more options (Create Pandora Battery, Recovery by pressing the HOME button, PSX Eboots now work again!!). I highly recommended it, If you scared, then your missing out.

   by billylee8 - 2008-04-27
» The one thing I'm concerned about...

...is whether or not upgrading to this CFW will interfere with upgrading to an actual M33 release.

I mean, how many people had trouble upgrading to 3.80 M33 from those "HX" CFWs?

   by NdR23 - 2008-04-27
 » I agree

Yeah I agree with you billylee8 , it may be difficult upgrading to the next M33 release, but personally, I think I'm gonna stick with this 3.93 release. It carries a tad bit more features as opposed to 3.90m33-3 ,personally I don't think I'll update to the next m33 update unless it's 4.00 or something.

   by xLinkinwormx - 2008-04-27
 » strange

with this installed i was able to network download m33 3.90 even this im on 3.93 kernal, glitch, should be fixed. nice additions to this tho with the recovory menu, also its press select not home, well it is on my psp

   by rakizta77 - 2008-04-27
 » incorrect

that means that the changelog is incorect since you press the select button not the homebutton... i've already seen it in action... its pretty cool... but i'm still stickin with my m33... i have heard reports from our site that some of them got bricked after 13hrs or so... dunno why...

   Re: xLinkinwormx - 2008-04-27
 » meh

o well if i get a brick i have pandora ready to downgrade me to 3.90-3 i wouldnt trust this other wise

   Re: ajnauron - 2008-04-27
 » Three errors already?

So it's select for the recovery NOT home, you can download 3.90 M33-3 from the Network Update even though its a 3.93 kernel, and it gets bricks after 13 hours? This is what happens when it's not made by the master.
   by Z3R0mod - 2008-04-27
 » m33

pfft just another bite off of DaX you should be ashamed for trying to fo sumthing with other ppls work. you are guna piss sum1 off if you kep doing this. y not just a plugin or sumthing else maby.

   by xLinkinwormx - 2008-04-28
 » ?

im not sure what this 13 hour brick is tho, mine seems fine now. is it 13 hours play or something? cos my psp will last forever if thats the case. i only ever use it to get the latest kernal lol

» Don't Follow Read Me Directions

SOB, I followed the readme directions and ended upgrading to the Official 3.93 Firmware...SOB

Just extract that entire .zip/.rar file into the root of the memory stick and run the CFW Installer.

I followed the instructions and copied the 3.93.PBP into the PSP/Game/UPDATE Folder and put the official update in the root folder! Then booted up what I though was the CFW program.

Now my PSP is totally worthless to me.

To the Person Who uploaded the CFW 3.93, "If you are going to make some changes to the release, at least change the readme file so people don't end up upgrading to the real 3.93 firmware.

   Re: Nikolaos - 2008-04-29
 » slickwilly440

You are a *****ing idiot if you updated to OFW 3.93, the update is named 3.93.PBP, the only way possible for you to update using that is by renaming 3.93 PBP to EBOOT.PBP, that isn't in the readme, therefore you are an idiot and probably thought you knew what you were doing. Fool.

   Re: SlickWilly440 - 2008-04-29
 » Okay.....

Well if you are going to call me names, then at least post a solution to the problem.

The problem is the person who setup all the folders and everything in the .zip/.rar file, didn't even care to edit the readme file.
   by animebuster - 2008-04-29
 » lol

so you didnt put the eboot in the update folder its quite easy you just had to drag the psp folder that is in the zip to the root and click yes to overright then put the 393.pbp on the root

this is what the readme says

Create a folder called UPDATE in /PSP/GAME and copy the EBOOT.PBP there included in this package.
Copy the original Sony 3.93 update to the root of the memory stick with the name 393.PBP
Launch app, and follow the instructions.

and it is right

press select just to make sure you are on ofw

   Re: SlickWilly440 - 2008-04-29
 » ?

Well the PSP folder already had the necessary folders and the EBOOT.PBP, so creating a folder called UPDATE was not necessary.

I took the 393.PBP file and put it in the UPDATE folder int the GAME folder, and renamed the 393.PBP file to EBOOT.PBP. Then I downloaded the offical 3.93 firmware and put it in the root folder and renamed it to 393.PBP. Then I launched the program (turned out to be offical PSP Firmware) and followed the instructions.

The next thing I knew, I couldn't run any homebrew programs and my psp become completely worthless.

A proper readme would say: "Copy the PSP folder and 393.PHP file to the root of the memory stick and click Yes All to over write the files. Then launch the application and follow the instructions."
   by animebuster - 2008-04-29
 » OMG

why did you do that? the zip came with the OFW update so why did you download it again it says CLEARLY what to do it came with a EBOOT.pbp so thats the EBOOT.pbp you needed cos thats the custom firmware update and the OFW gos on the root didnt you know if you put an OFW update in psp/game/update and name it EBOOT.pbp it will update it to OFW

Battery

   Re: SlickWilly440 - 2008-04-30
 » Researched

Yeah I've researched the pandora battery thing.

I could:
1. Buy one on eBay.
2. Buy an Datel Tool Battery (puts psp into service mod)
3. Convert the current psp battery to pandora by taking it apart and desolder one leg of a surface mount chip and create the magic memory stick.
   by sage3k - 2008-04-30
 » it's cool...

I will admit the Recovery from the XMB is awesome. but side grading to this has caused an issue that I didn't expect. I lost POPs Support so my PSX Eboots do not work anymore. :(

I'm side grading back to M33. But it's pretty sweet if you don't want POP's Support.

 » pandora battery

but if you have a friend with a psp with custom firmware on it you can create it on his/hers and turn you battery back after if you want

   Re: SlickWilly440 - 2008-05-01
 » Thanks

Thanks for the idea, but I don't have any friends who have CFW on their PSP's, they all seem to like buying their games and stay current with the OFW.
   by PS2GT - 9 days ago
 » ...

actual u dont need to desolder anything when making a pandora battery, a finger nail clipper will do just fine and u need tape also so the case stays closed and it only works on the old 18 and 22 batteries btw.
