OK, so here it is guys. French site PSPGen together with their developer code named GENyUS has finally released the much awaited Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-A yesterday for PSP fat and slim users (with TA-088 v1 and v2) users. This new CFW supports all the functions of the official firmware 5.50 with Pops and ISO support. Today they have also released build 4 of CFW 5.50GEN-A to fix the PSN network bug issue. Read more. So what's new with this released you asked? Here are the list of features of CFW 5.50GEN-A:

I checked out the features through updating and they weren't as awesome as I thought they would be. The information board is pretty much useless, internet security is a free trial until July something but you have to install it first and its pretty much useless, and then theres subfolders which is somewhat useful but theres probably some sort of homebrew application that already allows this.
Either way I updated back to m33, but hey in the end its your choice, I personally agree with dark alex on no v5.50 m33, unless of course dark alex adds something special of his own but the features aren't really cut out to be as good as they sound.

You'll need it for the new games. If a game has 5.50 update on the disc and you play it on 5.00 (M33 bypasses version check), when you do upgrade to a later firmware, the save games will be corrupt.

» FF7 on PSN
The re-release of FF7 on PSN already requires firmware 5.50, so games requiring this firmware are already here. Just FYI.
I'm pretty sure that future PS1 games released on PSN will also require firmware 5.50+. This is one of the reasons why I bought a PSP-3000 last week. The homebrew community was really dragging their heels on getting out a CFW based on 5.50. I was starting to think it would never come. This gives me a bit of buyer's remorse on the new PSP, but it's not too bad because I wanted it for the new hardware features anyway.

» Re: Baraa03
No its not 3000 or 2000v3 compatible. And not to be critical of the work being done making new cfw, but I'm gonna stick with 5.00-6 until I see better homebrew compatibility, stability, and features that I don't want to be without. But Gen probably is going to be the future of psp firmware.

Don't count Dark_Alex out just yet - as much bad blood as there is between him and the GEN team, I'm betting that sooner or later he'll put out another CFW just to spite them.

THIS IS A *****ING PIECE OF *****!!! Don't put it on you PSP. It bricked mine twice (with and without 5.50.PBP) and the second time my pandora wouldn't unbrick it (since I no longer had TM on the flash, I found a way around this using another MS that did have TM installed).

» It happened to me, too!!!
This Piece of S#!t caused my PSP to brick. I even tried using a pandora and mms, but it didn't work. Though I eventually fixed. :) But yeah I'd be careful installing this CFW.

» me as well!
I did the update from my 5.03m33-6. Luckily I had my other mobo from my old psp that had a broke LCD on it that I was able to do some exchange of parts. This made for a very tense 20 minutes and I was about to scream because m33-6 was amazing and for this to brick me the first time (second time went fine, both are the same mobo so I don't know what happened) but this was very not cool doing that.

» Not worth it...
This update is not worth it for me. M33-6 works flawlessly on my 2000 so I will wait for DAX to come out with his next one. I am in no hurry to update as mine works fine! If it's not broke don't touch it!

» Guys who have Been Bricking, READ!
You need to run and install the Custom Firmware before you run the Build 4 update! Otherwise, you'll brick.
The GEN program does not check to see if you have 5.50 GEN-A installed before it flashes files.

» For the visually impaired.
No, it does not, trying reading changelogs as well as the posts and you'll see this is for 1000 and 2000 PSPs, not 3000 or v3 motherboards.

» So anybody who...
... has successfully installed this, please give your opinion of how this f/w stacks up to 5.00m33-6, features and homebrew compatibility-wise. Also if there are any stability issues you have noticed yet. It would be cool to be able to play the newest games, especially when ftb3 comes out, but the latest m33 is so good, I'm sure a lot of people are hesitant to switch.

» Who Knew that installing build 4 (not build 3) would brick a slim
All I wanted was the multiple folder levels from this CFW. What I got is a brick.
I have a slim (the Daxter bundle) that now has a power light, then flickering memory card light which turns solid, then a brief wifi light and turn off. My MMS and Pandora did not bring up any menus at all.
. . . bummed and know not what else I can do.
