As promised, PSPGen together with GENyUS has released the much awaited Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-B. This is great news to all GEN users especially when news broke days ago that Sony has successfully implemented a security update that prevented Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 users from accessing the Playstation Store. Fortunately, Custom Firmware 5.50GEN users were safe.

The new update will be available for all PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 owners with TA-088v1 and v2; sadly, owners of PSP-2000 with TA-088v3 mobos and all PSP-3000 are not yet supported in this update. And since this is an update, you need Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-A installed in your PSP.

Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-B changelog:
  • The bug that prevented disabling the VSH Menu has been resolved.
  • The select button can either start the Recovery (Recovery in VSH), the VSH Menu (default) or do nothing at all (for those who use the remote play between PSP and PS3)
  • Updated network off M33
  • Evangelion Jo can be launched.
  • Pandorisation options are available in the VSH menu and Recovery
  • Option Flash1 Format: adding a check that prevents the Flash1 format if it is in the VSH.
  • 3 new functions in the VSH Menu
    • Shutdown device (turn off)
    • Make Normal Battery (Replace the battery in standard mode)
    • Make Pandora Battery (pandorise battery)

 » cant decide..

i cant decide whether to stay at 5.00 or go up to 5.50 so Resistance will work, but if i update i will have to go through a ton of crap just to get all my customizations back.........

 » Resistance

Resistance works on 5.00

 » boohoo

so what if i can't get onto sony's crappy playstaion network..?

i already got a better playstation network anyhow - it's called 'the net'...

im quite happy with a bug-free, superior CFW from M33, thanks.. i'm quite happy to wait for dax to do the business when it really matters instead of bricking my psp chasing some pointless fluff from 'da' PSN.

 » Dude...

I doubt dax is ever going to do anything with 5.50 - 5.51.

   Re: pewpie - 2009-07-02
 » dude..

you are aboslutely right..

why? because they are both meaningless updates - dax only updates when something important occurs.

Exactly.

   Re: mysterysword - 2009-07-02

Well, apparently 5.50GEN-B still has a bug with the goCam, and probably a few more, and atm there are more themes for 5.00M33. I honestly don't wanna lose my themes, so I'll stay on 5.00M33-6.

yep.. well, from what i gather - the OFW 5.50/1 has its fare share of bugs - even some bricks occuring..

thats Official FW not CFW.. so it's unsurprising that the CFW has bugs too..

probly also another good reason why dax wont act until a more stable release surfaces.

I think you mean....

Fortunately, Custom Firmware 5.50GEN users were safe.

 » And...

We never got that custom version of IRShell they promised!

   Re: PinCushion - 2009-07-02
» If by "custom" you mean

crude hex-edit, then you are absolutely right. Unfortunately most of the cool functions of iR Shell will not work unless made by AhMan for a specific firmware.

Having problems loading their backups? I put it in the ISO folder, but it won't show up under game.

» Using PSN Network Below 5.50

..You don't need 5.50 GEN-A/B to use PSN.

You can use this tool to enable PSN on lower firmwares:

http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSP-homebrew-Update-Trick-v2-5/pg/49/aid/132175

Or just do it by hand, as described in the comments on that page.

» Hopefully Dark Alex will reconsider and update to 5.50...IT'S NEEDED!

Sony has now locked everyone with lower than a 5.50 FW out of Rock Band and probably everything else related to PSN. I guess they don't want us to buy anything.

Hopefully this will change DA's mind about updating since it really is needed now.

» im using update trick 2.5

Im using the update trick 2.5 with m33-6 and the latest psn fix stops me from accessing.

That said I am willing to wait for a fix to either m33-6 or update trick 2.6
