Custom PSP firmware 3.95 GEN project update - Image 1Remember the Custom Firmware 3.95 GEN that was announced to be in development not too long ago? Its coders have just announced a couple of updates regarding its progress, which includes both good and bad news.

The good news: CFW 3.95 GEN's PSP Slim version is approximately 99 percent complete, and has successfully launched homebrews like VSHMenu, IR Shell, and PSP Filer 5.1. IR Shell in particular was slightly bugged, since it was hard-coded to firmware 3.80. The dev team further announced that CFW 3.95 GEN will carry support for popsloader, despite their earlier predictions.

As for the bad news, which will cover the firmware's release for the PSP Fat. The developers have announced that if users attempt run the CFW on the Fat while running a UMD or ISO, all its other functions won't work. As a result, plugins and apps such as VSHMenu and popsloader will freeze up.

The team suspects that this problem is due to a memory shortage in the PSP Fat, and that their search for a solution is proving to be difficult.CFW 3.95's Fat version should be fixed prior to launch, but if they can't find a proper solution, it appears they'll still be pushing for a release. That's the latest update regarding this custom firmware's development. Keep on the lookout in case we hear any more word from the developers.

We thank MaGiXieN for this heads-up!

I've only got a psp fat... So this will only be a update for the slims :S To bad.
Maybe i go get a slim.........
First other things :P

   Re: misthero - 2008-05-23
» let dax to make the hard work

dark alex will come back with 3.40m33 both slim and fat support, so don't worry

   Re: kittykat - 2008-05-23
 » Bad Idea...

Unless I have missed something, the Slim still lacks 1.5 kernal support and the ability to use a wireless keyboard, and still does not seem to have enough to offer in order to make up for these shortcomings. Better to just stick with a Phat for now. Well, at least until a keyboard and GPS are available for the Slim, which will likely be about a year from now.

   Re: Triompf - 2008-05-23
 » Maybe

If i have enough money i WILL Buy a slim (A)
But thats the problem.. :P
So for now i Sure stick on my fat

 » that's true

 » ....

I don't really get Sony. Why they bring out a keyboard. Other than for browsing in the internet(which sucks with the PSP), I don't the use of this. For cfw PSP's fine, but for OFW PSP's....

   Re: leland56 - 2008-05-23
 » Moron

I used my Targus to instant message from all over the world...Pikey is the great and the keyboard was perfect for writing emails too...but thats beside the point...using this firmware, personally, I am waiting for Dark Alex..he has produced the best CFW and constantly improves from his previous build......Just wait for 4.00m33 and chill out

   Re: Goobers - 2008-05-23
 » why? because...

the official reason they're bringing out a keyboard is simple... GPS.

are you seriously going to tell me, you like the already built-in keyboard to put in street addresses?

IF the PSP had touch screen... then they'd be less inclined to bring out a keyboard.

   Re: HxcoredinosXXX - 2008-05-23
 » Don't mind...

Actually I don't mind the built in keyboard. I'm fairly fast at it (typing in shows and movie titles). I think it like learning how to type it gets easier and easier.

If these guys do release this and it works as they say it does (and includes support for the phat), then I plan to use it to support them. Yea, DAX is the god of cfw, but be that as it may, it still takes a lot of knowledge and time to do what these guys are doing, and I respect them for contributing both of these things to the psp scene. Even if the benefits of a 3.95 CFW aren't anything special, it's still a great achievement. So kudos to team GEN.

i'm so close to affording a slim!

   by Binary - 2008-05-23
 » Really

am I hype up for this? NO! because its another useless firmware update.

   by 3vi1 - 2008-05-25
 » Why?

All features work perfectly in the latest M33 release - even remoteplay w/the latest Ps3 firmware. So, unless you're some kind of retard that has to be on the very highest numbered release for no real reason, it's best to wait this out.

 » Noob Help

nastymidnighter, Pandoras Batteries can downgrade ANY firmware, on slim or phat. You will be able to use the cfw, but only if you downgrade first.

If you need more help email me @

» too good 2 be true

From what I see, I would not wait for this. With all the damn problems that these people have just trying to get only to cfw3.95, and some 'special' features, I can`t trust this. M33 and Dark-Alex is the only thing I trust because I never had any problems with them. This cfw with crappy support for the phat makes it seem like they really wont be able to pull it off. Im not risking my Psp to this even with the features that they say will work. Wait for M33 and Dark-Alex to come with 4.00M33. Even if he has problems, he fixes it. So to coders of GEN, leave it to the experts

 » Looks like...

Another all talk, no release. And lemme guess what's next, the developers are going to announce that they quit the scene because of so much negative feedback. You don't deserve respect you earn it like everyone else who releases their work.

 » give pspgen a chance

ive used 3.93 and it works great.sure some patches had to be made but noones perfect.i can now use every option in the recov etc except for disabling pics0 and all whitch isnt really nessecary newho.

with the patches you can play psone eboot games hide mac adresses etc.plus if you like to get demos from the playstation store.you can

some of the demos are awesome but guess what.3.93 was made for more support for demos as well as 3.95

each cusotm firmware update has to be recoded to allow all other homebrew to react with it etc.
also there is 1.50 addon kernal support for the slim.it was made for 3.93.look it up and educate yourself.

i still support dax,but i support these guys too cause they are trying to give us more functionality until 4.00 arrives since dax wont do it.

in conclusion if you go by the fact dax or m33 didnt make it then dont try psprevolution, totalnewbiinstaller, cxmb or 50,000 other things that exist from other devs then.
