I say bring em'!
Well, I'm not a MMO addictive, but the idea sounds nice. And If I would like the game I would propably be sitting in my room all day long with a PSP, instead of a psp.
So bring it ;)
The only thing I'm worried about is the way of communicating, keypad... too bad, and my fingers get sleepy :(
I hope there would be a voice communication included in the game... ;)
MMO's if their FPS MMOs. Infrastructure 1-32 player supported FPS MMOs unless you can manage to fit more than 32 players in, like 1-64 but typicaly MMO means no limit to the player count right? Not much into RPG but a FPS MMO would rock.
I hate black people
And they hate you too.
hell ya ive been wanting am MMO for the psp for a while, they would just need to find a good way for communication as keyboard is....well you know....and voicechat isnt always the most popular in MMO's
FIRST POST!!!!
I think it would be a perfect fit. You could do little chores, crafting ect. when you didn't have much time and level when you weren't going to be doing anything for a while.
communications would be a problem though, and some offline feature would be nice.
They would need to provide a mini psp keyboard (?) with the MMO game. I cant imagine using the present method of text input to play in an MMO...
as an avid MMO fan, id love to see a handheld MMO for the PSP, its defo something id use, just think,
Eve online for the PSP, now thats something i could defo play, Or even LOTR online
MMOs can be pretty fun and POSSIBLY for the PSP, not so sure a handheld MMO is the greatest idea..not because it wouldnt be fun but it would vastly complicate the idea of handheld. if youre gonna sit in ur room next to ur wireless router, with some form of keyboard attached and you went out and bought a 2G mem card just so you could save one file...then why not just do it on the computer????
but either way, definitely NOT for D&D Tactics. ad-hoc would be a cool addiiton because thats what D&D is all about. bein with your friends and stuff, yknow? but an entire community of people online would just be frustrating and get boring fast. itd be like world of warcraft with fewer variations of people and much less to do.
YOU GUYS MAKE D+D GAMES AND I WILL BUY THEM... I PROMISE.
I am a part of that marked. And its not easy to piracy an online game.
Create a game on UMD, let updates be on the memory sitck, and when the expansion pack comes a new large MS are a lot cheaper for most people.
No, new UMDs are cheaper than memory sticks
the cool thing is that you can logon at many places out doors
I love the idea of an MMO on the PSP but what it would come down to is how well it was implemented, if it had anything to offer those who aren't always online and how it handled controls wise since some games have botched the controls in the past while others even took advantage of the voice chat abilities of the PSP.
No matter how it turned out though, I would probably grab a copy just to be able to see how the game evolved.
some sort of MMO where you can play on both your PSP and home console would rock. Think about it- play at home and all that, then just log out and switch to your psp, the psp game would just need to have lower graphics.
Why would the PSP need lower graphics?
It's holy capable of high end gfx.
MMORPGs are alright. Guild Wars, WoW, Runescape, Flyff. They're cool and all, but I much rather have an MMORacing game, kind of like Motor City Online. That game was the ***** back in 2000-2002. Then EA shut it down because they wanted to work on *****ing NFS which blows ass compared to Motor City Online, even Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition and Remix are better than any current NFS. Or a MMOFPS would be kinda sweet, like WarRock :-p
Midnight Club 3 is in no way better than any NFS game...the midnight games are horrible and boring! NFS isn't that great either when compared to other racing games, but Midnight is a complete joke.
MMOFPS!
Like that one game where you can drive every vehicle tank, jet, jeep ect. and it was a FPS just
go MMO with it or at lest 64 players with huge
maps and timely map cycles.
I'd really love to see Counter-Strike for the PSP with voice chat and support for 32-64 players online Infrastructure and (NOT) just for Ad-Hoc!
I'm an MMORPG fan, but I'm not sure the PSP is really the best method for one. MMOs are reliant on text, online connections, and lengthy amounts of continuous playtime (+30 minutes minimum, typically 1+ hour).
The PSP is designed for fast and responsive input, mobility, and bite-sized entertainment. I can fire off morse code or ASCII values faster than I can type with the PSP's 'keyboard'; unless I can spare the bandwidth, time, and attention for VoiP, how am I supposed to tell other massively multiplayers that we're about to die? I play the PSP in the car, on the bus, waiting in an office, on an airplane, or a thousand other places I can't get a consistent wi-fi signal. I also play a good many places where a level of Katamari Diamacy is a bit long, nevermind a long mission.
That's not to say these issues can't be beaten, or that a community exists that is willing to ignore them, but most of those folk would probably prefer a computer or a PS3/Xbox360.
To get a MMORPG on the PSP you would have to take in the following considerations:
1. Wireless internet is not the most reliable thing is the world. Any MMORPG on the PSP would need to be able to play with very little bandwith, as well as would need very friendly disconnect and re-connect code to avoid connection drop death frustration.
2. It would need to come on 2 UMDs.
UMD A would have all the data like graphics and any other file smaller than 1MB. This would be the install UMD basically. All program files would need to be on this disk to load them to the memory stick as well.
UMD B would contain all the music, video, other media files over 1MB. UMD B would be inserted during gameplay. The UMD would be padded to insure the data is placed whever the fastest access or transfer times can be achived, whichever is needed for each file (like in the old 1X-2X CD rom days).
3. You will either need a 1GB or 2GB memory card to hold the program data and small media files.
4. Even though it will NOT be required, keyboard support is a must!
5. Install the first 2 expansions of music on the UMD B which comes with the core game. Even Blizzard did this with voice files and Diablo 2 and they cannot figure out how to release software to save their lives. This way the first few expansions can be much smaller than they would need to be otherwise. You can always add some more tracks with the expansion dowload.
6. Make an option for people with large memory cards to do a "full install" of UMD B to their memorystick, but keep some small encrypted files on the UMD which will be used for "copy protection". Heck, every PsP game should have this option as long as you have the free space for it.
7. Charge 29.99 for the core set when it comes out, maybe 5.99 or 6.99 monthy connection charge. After 6 months, lower the game to 19.99, afterall, you are getting a monthy fee out of each player. Give a free 30 days with it and 30 more if they recommend a friend (and that friend enters some kind of code which came with player 1's game, which credits player 1).
I can't believe i just read all that useless crap.
First off why would you need a keyboad with a psp? Headsets are what the less dorky mmo players use anyway. And also you are overlooking tons of other implementation methods, like no umd at all. Download it at one of those PSP demo download retail sites, or just on the PS3. heck you could just use a usb cable and download it from a pc. Maybe even have the mmo run as a ps3 remote play game and you would be able to actually use your ps3's graphics processor. Anyways my point is you can't just say there is 7 required things and thats the only way it can be done. Think outside the box. The PSP is a portable ps2 and then some. With capability to configure a server/client relationship with the ps3 (mark my words) the PSP will soon be blowing peoples minds!! (at least in hot spots )
why? obviously it would be very complicated and overall a nuisance more than an advantage. thats not what the PSP is all about. by the time everythings set up 20 minutes later youre still struggling to communicate properly and juggle around actually playing and trying to stay connected with a party of what seem like droids and more than likely lag galore. just make it on the computer or ps3 or something. like that one guy said though, a racing game or shooter game would be much easier. i wouldnt get em, but easier none the less. not requiring those big free roaming worlds and all that equipment and spell data and such.
I hate WoW for one reason, because even after I buy the game I still have to pay for the goddamn game. F)&K that with a stick and some jumper cables. Make it a buy it game and then play it online. Killzone Liberation just realeased their online patch for FREE. I don't care if MMO's are designed to be only played online, that's just plain ignorance. Has anybody seen the recent numbers for WoW? Less and less people are playing each month, you know why, cause all of those addicted @$$ tards that quit their jobs, lost their girlfriends and started to get fat from playing the game nonstop are now becoming broke and evermore bored. And if you're one of the people NOT playing nonstop...then why are you paying a monthly fee? I love MMO's, I love the hell out of my PSP, I love being online and just hanging out. So if they make one, which I hope they do, lets just hope to god that they don't make me pay more than once.
They don't make you pay more than once, my good sir. You choose to. Should you not feel so inclined as to continue, or even start, playing, that is entirely up to you.
An entire online game would be amazing on this little guy (*Points to his OE-PSP*) but it would have many obstacles.
Firstoff, I remember playing Everquest on my PS2. It worked very nicely, and it only took up a few hundred Blocks on my MC (Memory Card) when an update was available. This same basic concept could also be attributed to the PSP, and I would play it like crazy!
Furthermore, should an expansion be released via UMD, and a whole new land with more areas and items unveiled, one would only have to purchase the UMD when they've reached the needed point in the initial release. Logging in with the new UMD version could transport them to the new land's starting area. Jumping between worlds would be as simple as switching discs.
(But the character would have to be in a certain area to allow the transfer, preventing any sort of cheating!)
Aye, one can only guess at the future, but it'll be grand.
I've got faith.
An MMO for PSP would be great!!!
I think its cool, i'll try it if the gameplay is nice.
A psp mmo would be great but it would lose a lot of popularity if it had mothly fees
wats mmo?
I think not only would most people with PSPs buy it, but also that it would cause a positive shift in the amount of PSPs sold. I'm surprised there haven't been any MMOs made for it yet.
@ byjt - MMO stands for - Massively Multilayer Online (usually followed by RPG)
