D2C's Scott Orr Talks WiiWare, PSP As 'Sleeping Giant' - Image 1

Once in a while, it's good to keep track of the pulse of the video game industry and hear what game developers have to say. Here we hear from Scott Orr, founder of D2C Games and lead designer of the first video game console versions of Madden NFL.

Orr's studio, D2C Games, recently announced that they will be releasing SPOGS Racing on WiiWare. In a recent interview, he was asked why he chose the Wii rather than the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3 to release the game in. He remarks that:

Wii is a true mass-market platform that appeals to gamers of all ages and capabilities [... It] has shown that easy-to-play games that are fun and encourage social gameplay can be very successful in a world of high-end platforms and games.

[...] As for Xbox Live and PSN, we’ll continue to monitor their development. We are very encouraged by the success of Live, which shows that even hard-core players will pay for and play simple games that appeal to them, which up to this point have mostly been lacking in originality.

He also talks about the PSP, which he describes as a "sleeping giant":

I believe given its installed base and increasingly strong sales, the PSP platform is a sleeping giant just waiting for the right kind of content that’s value priced and easily obtainable.
