Thanks to tips from readers Ari Bornstein and victor (aka dopey), we've got new information regarding StrmnNrmn's Daedalus R14 N64 emulator for the PSP. The source of this update's from CaptainMorgan4 of the StrmnNrmn forums, who's apparently gotten a copy of R-14 Beta from the developer. While this version is currently too unstable to be a public release, CaptainMorgan4 did provide several details on R-14 Beta's improvements. Here are some of them (Quoting CaptainMorgan4's post):

This is wrong / incorrect information..
1. Strmnnrmn has been on a long hiatus, CaptainMorgan did not get the Source from Strmnnrmn, he got the source from me which I got it from the SVN. This is called Credit Taking which is what people from this very site is famous for.
2. The reason I never released it is because
A) its too unstable for public eyes and would clog up the blog
3. I Specifically told CaptainMorgan not to release any details of this to anyone, and now he gave it to someone else... I am not giving him anymore builds unless he explains himself (I also plan on working on R14 a bit to give it higher compatibility, or at least present some valuable information to StrmnNrmn) .
As mentioned before, its too unstable for public release and i advise against anyone releasing it. ITS FOR TESTERS ONLY.
4. As a leader at StrmnNrmns Daedalus Tracker and one of StrmnNrmns many testers ( A specific amount of people I assigned) i do not allow this release to come to public eyes unless bugs are firmly pressed.

I got a bulletin on Myspace about this and I immediately checked strmnnrmn's blog and, as has been the case for several months, the top entry was "Yuletide Update"

why you dissing these guys Aqua a fully working daedalus is one of the things i installed cfw on my psp for, this stuff is hardcore work. Programing is not an easy thing if you have experience go make something like this yourself, cuz i'll tell you now it's harder than just knocking up a few lines of code i know it may take time guys but i want to see this working 100% and i fully support these endevours. also to anybody who disheartens the psp HB devs, you are stupid because that will kill the scene which is flaging already (i'm still quite a noob) i would love to program for psp but my C++ never got past text based windows stuff before total confusion set in. so to anybody that disses these guy's a big diss to you. ohh and wally i thought the project may have been dead as no realese news for a while so dont be to hard on CM4 cuz i been checking qj.net every day for about 2 months waiting for news of daedalus psp !00% sound and fps. come on kick those bugs ass and big support from a psp homebrew freshie.

fair enough your points are valid, it does seem a little lacking on the we're still working on it front.strmnnrmn's last update was only three months ago. the media engine work seems to maybe put that 100% n64 emu in sight we've seen the product so we know it's not one of those duff wait for this great program that never comes out jobs. i feel frustrated also by the long wait but i'd rather support these guys and let them know people still want this stuff and not just repeated irshell clones (i dont really check em out cuz not really adding anything new just asthetics) we'll just have to be patient and i'm sure strmnnrmn will tell us if he aint doing anymore releases but i'm confident r14 will happen and if it takes a blooming year(i hope not) for 100% i'll be here as i want to amaze my six year old daughter with zelda64 mario64 turok goleneye perfect darkand many other games i own playing on psp with great textures, a stable 60fps and stable 16bit 11000khz to 44100khz sound may be an impossibilty but i'd love to use it so please just bump up your news releases strmnnrmn thats all i ask. keep us informed as to whats going on.also i have an idea why not give wally control of your news releases or captain morgan as it seems he cant keep stum (joke thanks for the leak i dont have to wonder if it's going to happen now). take your time on the build strmnnrmn qaulity over quantity anyday. thats what i says anyway. lol

Daedalus will probably never get to 100%, not all emulators will run everything as supposed. Even the Atari 2600 emus have some trouble running some things. If you try running Oscar The grouches Trash Can race it freezes on many emulators. If Daedalus did get to 100% then we'd be laughing but I doubt it will happen for another 10 years at least while StrmnNrmn takes these extended breaks :P

If Daedalus did get to 100% then we'd be laughing but I doubt it will happen for another 10 years at least while StrmnNrmn takes these extended breaks :P

As was stated earlier, Strmnnrmn is on a hiatus. People like his program, he released at least three solid updates last year, all of which made the emulator improve greatly. If you can't wait a couple of months, then get over it and make your own N64 emulator.
Strmnnrmn programs Daedalus in his free time. He doesn't get paid a salary for it. If he did, i'm sure updates would come thick and fast.
Getting angry and sledging someone who makes a program you enjoy using, and doesn't charge ANYTHING for, is shooting yourself in the foot. You think he wants to come back and make progress on this now that you've insulted him?

So I'd like to point out first off.. mostly we got froobs who just want "a" release of daedalus..... wow you guys want a corny release with a single update and a bit speed up?
I'm pretty sure most of you do since you guys attack the hard work of peoples psp games etc for free...
Anyway... it does not matter how long it takes guys! Like seriously how long does it take a new system to come out? like ps4.. another what 4-5 years? or more.
Think about it now, Nintendo was programmed basically to read and signal these games how they were programmed and a psp was programmed the same to play umds etc.
Now Storming norman has been trying to get the psp to do something else and THINK ABOUT IT.... if storming norman let out a random release with out testing it etc, it could damage your psp! Okay so we got pandoras? It could go worse then that cause it be like sticking a virus in your psp and totaly feding it up because your trying to get all sorts of illegal operations to work on the psp

For the system it is 333mhz...64mb RAM on the slim(32mb on PHAT..from what i understand)..to even get some of the games running as they are on the PSP(mario,mario kart etc)..is really impressive.The surreal 64 emu for xbox ran pretty well because it had a 733mhz cpu.So to all the StrmnNrmn fans out there, be patient, be grateful that we have such an emulator for PSP, and to Occulto Annexus..I agree with you completely (its all about the energy man).Thanks StrmnNrmn for all you've done so far for the n64/PSP scene, I hope life is as good to you as you have been to us.
