Daedalus is here! - Image 1

It looks like everyone's favorite Nintendo 64 Emulator is finally up with a brand new version. Daedalus R11 is here, boasting numerous changes and fixes that should improve performance on everyone's handhelds.

For those who haven't heard of it, Daedalus R11 is a Nintendo 64 emulation application for PSPs. Using Daedalus, you can play your favorite N64 games on the PSP, such as Starfox 64.

In any case, here are the changes for this iteration of Daedalus:
  • [*] Large overhaul of rom settings and preferences. All settings should now be persistant.
  • [+] Native support for palettised textures for faster rendering and less memory usage.
  • [+] Provided a fixed size pool for all texture memory, to limit memory usage.
  • [+] Expansion Pak enabled by default.
  • [!] Updated rom info database to include save mechanism for many roms.
  • [!] Fix memory leak in texture cache.
  • [!] Fixed conversion of RGBA/32bpp textures with odd alignments.
  • [!] Fix crash which occurred when recolouring textures in low memory situations.
  • [^] Large rewrite of texture cache to reduce memory usage and improve performance.
  • [^] Various optimisations to the way textures are looked up in the cache and installed.
  • [^] Optimise offsetting/scaling of texture coordinates.
  • [^] Improve performance of dynarec fragment cache and reduce memory fragmentation.
Strmnnrmn's left three different files for people to use though: Daedalus R11 versions for 1.00 and 1.50+ firmwares, as well as the source code for the release.

As always, feel free to show off your enthusiasm for Strmnnrmn's homebrew application in the comments below, and don't hesitate to drop him a line at his blog if you wish to thank him personally for another job well-done.

To run it almost 100% full speed this are my preferences:

texture update check: disabled
frameskip: 2
limit framerate: no
dynamic recompilation: enabled
audio: enabled
adjust frequency: enabled

 » THANK YOU!!

LOVIN THE PROGRESS! IT'S STILL NOT REALLY AT AN ENJOYABLE PLAYING SPEED BUT ONE DAY IT WILL HAPPEN.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

   Re: IMCOOL (Unregistered) - 2007-05-06
 » this sucks

No, offense, but this sucks, I think DAXs ps1 emulator he made is better. His emu works at full speed. Cant wait for a PS3 emulator though. Later this year maybe?

Re: IMCOOL (Unregistered) .....Are you Serious.....cuz if you are your retarted

   Re: luizlizard (Unregistered) - 2007-05-06
 » wtf imcool

imcool, i cant believe how uninformed or retarded some people are, the PS1 emulator was not made by dax, it's included in 3.00+, DAX just made it possible too put your own isos. And how the hell you think a PSP could emulate a PS3!!!!!!

Finally, im impresed with the progress of Daedalus, every release it's almost 15% faster! keep up strnm

   Re: Drewford (Unregistered) - 2007-05-07
 » uh oh

maybe I did something wrong, but the texture re-do thing screwed this up real bad. Mario 64 no longer shows coins or stars, and in Majora's Mask the actually game is messed up. yopu have ocarinas on all of your items, and you can play them. no health is displayed. you die and restart room after some cutscenes. also, the game freezes after you get magic power from the fairy. I know it has something to do with the no health thing. I tested Mario Kart and found when you get a star fire comes out the back like a mushroom. Strmn Nrmn, I think it may be from individual settings for each rom. check on that, it may become a serious probem in some games(the ocarina thing is pretty bad, and I'm sad about it freezing)

 » wtf is nintendo 64?

what is nintendo 64? or wii, gamecube, DS Lite etc? are they some kinds of weird jargons that I never heard of? Can you play Mortal Combat, MotorStorm, Tekken, Need For Speed Underground and breath-taking fps games like I do on my PSP with these consoles?

   by devin (Unregistered) - 2007-05-06
 » its good but

the emu is good but the only game that we can really play is still super mario 64. perfect dark doesnt werk and SSB is way 2 slow 2 play. i think the only games this emu will be good with are the smaller games.

   Re: luizlizard (Unregistered) - 2007-05-06

But it's progressing, if you see, every release it's way faster. Someday it will be at full speed, or at near full speed, just like SNES9x it took sometime but now most games run at full speed.
