Daedalus Speed is Power!

Once you read this article, you will probably want to marry StrmnNrmn for being so great at what he does. However, let us try not to get too excited and feel like we have to resort to that to calm our "joys". StrmnNrmn has been very busy this week on the next version of Daedalus (v7), and this hard work paid off for him and even us!

While working diligently on Daedalus last weekend, he achieved both a speed increase and an increase in stability on 1.00 firmware. Now, a few percent increase in speed may not cover it for many of you at this point, but StrmnNrmn's blog entries just continued to pile onto us throughout the week. As of writing this article, the Daedalus v7 has experienced a 22-26% overall speed increase! Now, if that isn't making you jump up in and out of your computer chairs, I do not know what will. This is a great achievement for under a weeks worth, and this will finally be something to be truly proud of!

However, with great achievements, there have been great struggles. While attempting to improve his emulator by placing "things" in and taking things out, he seemed to hit something bad, very bad. This "something" caused Mario 64 to glitch up very early on (before entering the castle) and made the game impossible to play. However, StrmnNrmn is currently looking at a fix for this, and feels very confident that this will be solved!

it's funny how the article says 'impossible to play' yet every game is impossible to play at an even decent frame rate. Once games are playable, let me know.

to qj.net the speed increase is actually more than what you wrote its actually 25%-28% increase in speed because frist he had a 10%-12% increase then it was a 5%-6% and now its a 10%, add it up and you got a 25%-28% speed increase. great job strmnnrmn.

StrmnNrmn has proved himself to be reliable time and time again. If he says he's obtained a 26% speed increase, I believe him //-_

You are so ungrateful and demanding. StrmnNrmn does not have to do anything for you and why would he if you are just going to act like that.

anyways....

keep up the good work StrmnNrmn. I'm looking forward to the next release.

the point of post like these is to show you that progress is being made... that eventaully we will have a full speed emulator for some time.. so instead of flaming and saying its a useless post.. say thank u to StrmnNrmn for attempting this and moving us closer to a n64 emulator :)

im pretty sure its going to make a big jump in fps. ok a normal n64 emu runs about 60fps, so 26% out of 60fps is like about between 15-20fps add this to the fps in r6 and you get most games to run from 20-30fps in r7.

You sure that he doesnt mean that it provides a 22% speed boost to the already constant 6fps? It would make a lot more sense to add the speed increase to the established speed. (I.E. 6fps->8.25fps)

on strmnnrmn's blog it says that he got a speed increase of 22%-28% overall in the n64 emulator not from r6, so im pretty sure im right, at least i hope im right.

So how has this news changed from Sunday's post about the exact same update on his blog? Seems like QJ is just hyping the same thing over again for attention.

i hope your right to but even roughly 20% of 60 fps is about 15 fps and i think i might be able to play a game at those speeds
