Daedalus R9 released!

StrmnNrmn has just released the most-anticipated 9th release of Daedalus. This writer literally ran to find his PSP and its charger when he heard about the release of this wonderful N64 emulator. The second you get into the game, it becomes apparent that this emulator has come a very long way since the initial release. For comparison, I went with Super Mario 64 and tested out the framerate.

The second Mario pops out of his beloved green tube, the game seems to be running at full speed (not quite there but very close). With sound enabled, it seemed to lag slightly; turning off the sound, though, makes it seem to run extremely fast. I cannot give any framerate counts as there were no visible FPS counter, but it is indeed at a playable speed...until you get into a level.

I immediately entered the infamous bomb stage and went running around and noticed a slight speed increase but not by much. The graphical glitches in the game all seem to have been rid of without any loss in speed.

StrmnNrmn has worked extremely hard on this release and I think we all owe him a huge "thanks" for continuing his development on the N64 emulator. Sony has already beaten us to a working PSX emulator, but hopefully we can get Mario on the PSP at full speed soon enough to show all our friends that Sony and Nintendo can once again work together! The general, noticeable changes in this release include:

Speed is faster
New UI
Audio
Various graphical fixes

he didnt say R9 was old you idiot, he meant the first post thing. and ill leave a comment on this. i just tried it. i know its still a work in progress, but playing this thing at these speeds suck. im not being ungreatful StrmnNrmn. i appreciate all your hard work, i know eventually you will get this working at maybe full speed. but for now the games arnt really playable for me, just too slow, but like i said keep up the good work.

I use firefox and i never get a popup from qj. but it might be one of my extesions that blocks them. even if you dont use firefox as long as you have sp2 u have a popup blocker just enable it and set it to high so you dont get any

I wouldn't trust Internet Explorer if my life depended on it. It's still full of major security vulnerabilities. If you're unwilling to go FireFox, then grab Opera. For the sake of your poor over-stressed virus scanner and anti-spyware software, get something more secure.

First of all, excellent work StrmnNrmn! The sound implementation seems good, although it does lag at times. It's still not quite fullspeed on most games, but Mario 64 runs near-perfectly, with the exception of cutscenes and menu transitions. Still have to try a few other roms.

the best I get is around 17FPS in super mario 64 with the sound turned off and the smaller 4:3 320x240 screen. I was hoping for near-normal speed with the audio turned off on at least SMB64.. I would rather people didn't hype this stuff up.

Keep up the good work though. I'm sure it's tough to get something up to speed on a limited CPU.

I was able to play Mario64 and Zelda OOT, Zelda was kinda slow but it was better than it was on the previous version. It he continues working on this it will only get better. It is already better than I thought it would be.

Also for those that say "I knew about this hours ago" well congratulations you have won the "I have no life award". This is awarded to those special people who sit in front of their computer constantly refreshing the same pages over and over hoping to get info the second it comes out and laugh at those who get it 1hr later. They can also double as the "Ha! 1st post" people. So don't you feel special now?

you think so? i wont lie, the speeds without the sound were pretty decent. not great but decent. but how can you play a game without sound and that still sort of lags? it will get boring, the sound slows it down and is very choppy. but with this update i think we might see a full speed deadalus sooner than we expected.

I am honestly extremely appreciative for all the brilliant and time consuming work that coders put into these complex emulators and apps but I can't help but wonder why the average guy checking this website gets such a hard-on for "Daedalus". At best it runs ONE game ( btw a game already available for a portable) NEAR full speed with no sound. Almost everything else is unplayable or at best a hugely different and compromised experience of what the playing the game ought to be. Even if this program is updated to something nearing fullspeed the majority of the N64 catalogue is pretty unremarkable (excepting Ogre Battle 64, OoT, and Paper Mario) and I bet the majority of you can already emulate N64 fullspeed on your computers. :/

emulating N64 in a PSP is a huge thing and the emulator is a work in progress you *****, of course it won run everything, don't forget goldeneye and mario kart, *****...

It was simply awsome, great speeds in mario (certain areas) and otehrs quite slow. No offence but at this stage sound sucks real bad. Its a work in progress, but if it keeps going like this itll get there soon. Congrats on another breakthrough. As you are working on currently the hardest emulator to do on the psp(Not including saturn and such).
