PSP - Image 1

A post on the Dark AleX blog addressed the problems with running Despertar del Cementerio, Pandora, and Time Machine on certain PlayStation Portable Slim and Lite with TA-088 motherboards.

According to the announcement posted by webmaster Alek, the IPL used for the three applications doesn't work. Now interestingly enough, IPLs can still be run from the Memory Stick, but are limited to those signed by Sony. This in turn "will probably block the actual way of running your cfw's, as you couldn't even load on this NANDs the custom IPLs with different signature." He explained the problem further:

Even though, IPL is not the problem, but probably the mixed kernel of 1.50&&3.40, and it will be the best option to use a new kernel on Despertar del Cementerio future versions.

So what does this mean for homebrew users? Well, a "new Dc version will not be released till the new Core and interface is finished." So does this mean that they'll find a way to get around the problem? Most definitely. All they need is a little time.

» Time, that's the key word isn't it?

This is why I don't complain about a possible PSP-3000 coming up since I just got a slim, because I know for sure mine works with homebrew ;)

"reason the current Pandora stuff still works"
That should be "does not work".
   by Torch - 2008-07-24
 » Contradicting

Matheiulh posted elsewhere that the pre-IPL exploit still works, I.E. the CPU ROM code hasn't been changed. Unsigned IPLs WILL STILL RUN FINE.

And the reason the current Pandora stuff still works, is that some of the SysCon functions/addresses have been changed.
Its crashing because the firmware modules loaded by the custom Pandora/DDC IPL is not compatible with the changed SysCon.

From the looks of it, this is just a temporary setback. This so called "security update" has already failed.

Hmm...It seems there is a new CPU being put on the newer TA-088 boards. Now THAT is a problem. Back to firmware exploits then.

Alek's blog does mention that the IPL is not the problem though, so the info about the new CPU is still sketchy.

You have got to remember that there will always be a way to hack the PSP. Whether or not the public knows how to do it is a different story. Sony has to have their own back doors in the PSP so that they can fix them if they happen to brick.

   Re: JaXeRiR - 2008-07-25

I guess you could always do a physical mod, like install a mod chip to get custom firmware working..

I'm betting that Sony will eventually be so blinded by trying to stop cfw users that they'll make a PSP that has no back doors, and can't be recovered from a brick, not even by them.

all psps that ever have come out all work fine with my totalnewbiinstaller universal unbricker mms setup

ill have to find a ta-088 and see if it blocks that

This reminds me of when TA-082's first came out and people were checking box codes to determine what model and firmware they were getting.
This could end up being the same for a while. Or is there nothing to tell the models apart any more?

the Bible isn't the law. You can't compare the Bible to law. Oh, how come God burnt Sodom and Gomorrah because they're gays and lesbians? huh? dumbass. when you see a beggar, you don't say "im going to help him cause the Bible says so." Youre going to help him cause you have humanity in you. Bible is crap. Law is good, but the ones that implement it aren't. period.

another thing, pirating and murder are two different things. wow. you're a simpleton. the companies ripping off people's wallets is reality. pirating their stuff only lowers their profits. BUT THEY STILL MAKE MILLIONS OUT OF IT! your ideals don't fit in the topic.

"murder isn't wrong because anyone can choose to do it."? sooo idealistic and theoretical.

reality 101, dumbass. i'm pirating. i'm not taking someone's life. i'm not raping a 6-year-old. you're comparing two things that are far off in the spectrum.

maybe you don't know how to read. as i said, i buy games that are worth it. okay then, go support overpriced games like Infected, Marvel: Rise of the Imperfects, Transformers, and Brooktown High and spend over $100, while i just pirate and delete them right away. LOL

» hmmm..sony is really into this kind of *****...

since the psp has the leading hardware sales for the past 2 years or so. and they even adsmitted that thanks to homebrew, it fueled the sales. sony isn't really affected, compared to the game developers. since homebrew = free games = psp sales.

@failtorespond, i just don't want to waste any money. nba live 08 on the psp is worth 50 bucks when it first came out. it is as expensive as its xbox 360 version. lolz. heck, i could even buy nba 2k8 on 360 or ps3 which is far better. nobody wants that kind of thing, right?

   Re: TheLastGuitarHero - 2008-07-24
 » ...

Well then buy it for Xbox or PS3? That was simple enough. But buy the games you want on the PSP.

   Re: failtorespond - 2008-07-25
 » ..

Just cause the game sucks doesn't mean you should steal it. Use whatever excuse you want to justify your point, but if you pirate games, your a thief, end of story.

And just cause they got more sales on the console, it doesn't mean it is right. What about the developers who you are stealing from who pour their time into a project that youre just going to steal?

I don't really care who steals what, but you shouldn't spend your time bragging about how you are a thief. Thats all.

   Re: roddollente - 2008-07-25
 » i buy games

that i want. and i pirate games that i just want to try to see if they're any good. for me, that's not immoral since i don't follow the bible. whether you pirate games or not depends on the quality of the game. if it's worth pirating, then just download the damn thing. if it's worth buying, i'll buy the damn thing.

and you, sir, does not really realize how the 'system' works. i hate people who are idealistic. open your eyes to see how rich these corporations are. their net worth are BILLIONS. even if we pirate for the next 10 years or so, their business will not end. have you ever heard of a company closing down because of piracy? or programmers laid off because of piracy? it all depends on the quality of games. if the game is good, everyone will pirate AND buy it. if the game sucks, everyone will NOT buy it and just pirate it. that's all there is to it.

there is nothing wrong with pirating games. no company has announced a loss just because of piracy. in every game released, there will always be profit. if there is no profit, it's because the game sucks. period.

P.s. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis is even better than Ironman for Psp/360/ps3, and their release dates are 16 years apart. you guys be the judge.

actually SEGA deminished because of piracy

   Re: roddollente - 2008-07-26
 » what a big mouth

sega diminished because of low hardware sales. genesis didn't translate well in north america as much as mega drive did in japan and south america. then, sega released Sega CD then Sega 32X which did poorly on the market. their downfall became worse in the release of Sega Saturn. Saturn momentarily beat Playstation in 1996, but it eventually died after 3 years. and then, Dreamcast became the total end for Sega video game consoles, that's why they moved to software management.

well FoolMonkey, your name suits you best. couldn't agree more. if Sega diminished because of piracy, then today instead of making games, they should've produced game systems, since Pirated Games are Software, and not hardware. Hardware can't be easily pirated. use the head.

"I buy games that i want. and i pirate games that i just want to try to see if they're any good. for me, that's not immoral since i don't follow the bible."

God, you're a moron.

1. "Renting" may be what you want.
2. There is plenty of morality outside of the Bible.

   Re: roddollente - 2008-07-28
 » God, you're a moron.

1. no one rents psp games. Anyone who does, i assume you do, is a moron. or as RDJ says on the Tropic Thunder trailer: moronical, imbecile, and the dumbest motha*****a that ever lived.

2. i agree. i was just saying that pirating isn't immoral to do cause it's any one's choice.

besides, those who don't pirate are either dumb, or just don't have a clue about the world. period.

You sir are the biggest moron I've met yet. And I've met some pretty big morons.

"that's not immoral since i don't follow the bible"

That's the same as "it's not breaking the law because I don't believe in laws." And the Bible is not the only source of morality out there. Hell, there are plenty of atheists with morals, and you KNOW they don't follow the bible.

"i was just saying that pirating isn't immoral to do cause it's any one's choice."

...is like saying "murder isn't wrong because anyone can choose to do it." "Robbing a bank is wrong, because anyone can choose to do it." "Rape isn't wrong, because anyone can choose to do it." Have I made my point yet?

"besides, those who don't pirate are either dumb, or just don't have a clue about the world. period."

Do you even have two brain cells to rub together? Some people do have morals, and would rather support a company and help them develop better games than just steal from them.

» And you lol'd at me...?

Yes, I used extreme examples. I'm sure most other people got that. Right now, you are just desperately trying to save your own ass on the internet, where no one cares.

To a business, a million dollars is a lot less than you think. You have no idea how much money goes in to making games, and profits don't go into the pockets of one person. It is split among thousands (or more) of employees. While they still may be making millions from a game, piracy hurts. A lot.

I actually have a life. Friends, hot girlfriend, the whole 9 yards. As such, I spend most of my time doing other things than video games. So, I don't support over-priced games; I barely support games at all, just a select few that look good. I don't really have the free time to try all these different games that will end up sucking. I don't buy, rent, borrow, or anything games that look like they would suck. But if that's how you choose to spend your free time, I won't say anything more against it.

In many cultures (although thankfully in your case, not America), theft is a capital offense. That means the death penalty. So yeah, to some people stealing is as bad as murder and rape. Please learn something.

Good thieves don't brag! Why justify something you know is obviously wrong. Just let them say what they say and quit being so defensive over nothing. It's against the law AND the Bible, so just leave it in the dirt.

It's only a matter of time, like all the other psp hardware that was release in the past.
Unless Sony TOTALLY re-build the whole PSP from scratch then that will definitely set the pandora/CFW flashing/SW mods scene back. Just like the PSP to PSP slim migration. But it WILL be done eventually.
Plus, most ppl already have a modded psp now days. Not to mention that there are countless more in stores just waiting to be modded.
There aren't going to be any probs nor shortage on the PSP community in the near future imo.

Now when it comes to piracy. I dl pirate PSP games on a constant basis. I have been doing so for nearly 4 years. I have all of the USA/EUR titles available to market and I am NOT ashamed to say so. I also support the companies that I like. I buy the games that I play CONSTANTLY and the rest I just dl cause I have spent countless of $ in the past and present buying games that are not even worth a cent, specially the PSP system. 99% of the tittles are a waste of $ and time. I collect and am happy to do so and will continue to do so.
ANYONE who wants to object, save it. I AND COUNTLESS of ppl aren't going to start buying crappy games just because of a futile attempt on making me feel bad. Plus all those DVD ads that got me all numb about the whole subject.
Piracy is an option. And I chose to do so, perhaps if the gaming market aren't bull*****t!ng SOOO much about their product, there might be no need do to so in the 1st place in my case.

doesn't bother me...

   Re: anon349 - 2008-07-27
 » ps:

Plus it's quite simple, If you like a certain game on ANY system. BUY/support it.
The rest can just go back to the drawing board and start doing their job properly. Gamers are wiser these days and I would rather have what options we have now unlike before when gamers were forced/tricked/manipulated.
If companies are falling apart due to piracy weather it be in the gaming, film, etc... they only deserve to. There are MANY small timers out there trying to get somewhere with their good ideas, but these so called 'big' companies are stomping all over them. Not giving a fair go for all and have monopolized the industries to an unimaginable extent.
"let the bad weeds be dealt with, the ones serious about games/film/etc and give 100% + satisfy the consumers will be looked after til' time to come"
At least thats the way it should be imo...
Just because you fluked one good game, it doesn't mean you deserve to release volumes of REALLY bad repetative ones. Milking the consumers for their lazy ideas, If you make a bad game/film/etc... you pretty much asked to be pirated.
