Anyone who has ever spent some time playing on an emulator knows what a savestate is. They're useful and can be invaluable when you're in a very difficult area of a game, but commercial games and consoles don't usually support the savestate feature. All that may change if this new experimental plugin from Dark AleX proves feasible. The plugin itself is called PspStates and, as you may have guessed from the title, it lets you create savestates while playing games on your PSP Slim. It was originally thought to be included in CFW 4.00 M33, but Dark AleX says that PspStates was never intended to be released as part of M33CFW but as a standalone plugin instead. Now in order to run this plugin, you'll need your PSP to be running on at least 4.01 M33. You also need a good memory stick. This is important as fake memory sticks may cause slowdowns when saving or loading savestates. Also, here's a very important reminder from the author himself: DO NOT USE this plugins with umd's inserted, and do not use it of course with UMD's in normal mode, even isofs mode is not recommended. Use only in march33 (recommended), np9660 or in homebrew. You can have the plugin loaded in umd's, as soon as YOU DON'T USE IT. Okay, we know that you're excited, but before you click on the download, remember that this plugin is still experimental and may cause data loss or other damage to your PSP. It is highly recommended that you make backups of your nand before trying it out. Heck, make a backup of your memory stick's entire contents too just to be on the safe side. Also make sure that you can unbrick your PSP if you ever run into any problems. The download's below. Do not forget to read the readme file bundled with the plugin. We can't stress this enough. If you want to see any improvements or you want to report any bugs, we recommend clicking the via link below. Thanks to Gleps for the tip! Download: PspStates Experiment |

» too bad its for only slim.. :(
anyways
nand is something unique on the psp, i cant really explain but if it is destroyed, there is no way of unbricking
to back it up, i use DDCv5 by DAX, there is an option of DUMPING NAND which backs it up in your root called nand-dump.bin.. so thats what it means
cool my very first post!

Nand IS your flash. It's just a type of memory, just like a SIMM, DIMM, DDR, DDR2, EPROM, EEPROM, etc...
Desperitar Cementerio can back up and restore your NAND. What Dax is saying is to
1) Have a pandora battery
2) Have a backup and know how to restore it!

» I lost...
...my phat nand, and this seems a little unstable with all the warnings outside of the readme.
Is there anyway to get a new nand going and restore the IDStorage for my phat?

It's only for the slim PSP
It's only for the slim PSP
» So it isn't for UMDs?
That's strange, the other articles seemed to imply that it was going to be ONLY for UMDs.

» the savestate
briefly shuts your psp down. so im thinking maybe this is the one they use for standby so we can quickly resume the game. lol. anyways, this plugin is amazing. just don't try to savestate every now and then (tried it and somehow it kinda crashed burnout). but no data loss whatsoever. or is there? hmmm...
p.s. savestate and loadstate are fast for me. tried it on 1gb memory stick and it was slower. is it the size of the memory stick or the amount of free space? hmmm..

FAQ
----
Q: Why only PSP SLIM?
A: In the current implementation, I'm using slim extra memory. The file writing is post-poned
while file read is done before the real load state. This is because we lack of a good memory
stick driver that could be used in situations where the kernel is off. The only memory stick
driver we have, which is the used in DC, is extremelly slow, it has no sense to use it here. Until memory stick dma code is reversed, it is impossible the implementation on psp phat.

» This is awesome
the only problem here is that I can't load a savestate after exiting the game, I have to save and then load all in the same play. Maybe I messed something up XD

silwon: very funny, phat has its advantages, so does the slim
ajnauron: savestates+skype+wifi switch on top of psp+raised Dpad+umd cashing (for those pesky UMDs) > infrared port

» sorry but
id rather have a slim than a phat anyday. if you wanna be left behind just for an IR port then have fun changing channels on your tv with your psp and playing with your keyboard, while we with slims enjoy keeping up with the times and all the new things coming our way. even if your disagree with him, you all know chaosx6 is right :p

I have a slim and a phat and i'm selling the phat as it won't be compatible with the newer homebrews and plug-ins. it's a shame to see it go but the slim is better. i'd rather have more ram than a IR port. :)
