PSPWhile almost all of the PSP crowd has migrated to the 2.71 SE custom firmware by Dark_AleX, there exists a small group of unlucky people (TA-082ers) who can't enjoy that on their PSPs. For them though, Dark_AleX makes sure that they can enjoy most of the kernel mode homebrew using Homebrew Enabler, or HEN.

And in the latest iteration of the holy grail for TA-082ers, there seem to be a lot of fixes and improvements:

  • Fixed a bug in a patch bad done in a delay slot that caused some umd games not to work when HEN was running (this issue was fixed in SE before)
  • Fixed a bug in the loading of big user prx's, that affected a plain prx of socom2 umd, and some homebrew prx's.
  • Bypassed a crappy SCE protection that prevented the umd to be mounted if the application was run from the memory stick.
  • Usb mass storage couldn't be loaded by homebrews in non-devhook version because semawm.prx is sign checked. HEN now applies the algorithm to reverse the sign check, letting this and the rest of firmware
  • modules to be loaded by a homebrew.
  • Added a SDK for HEN/SE.
While most of the updates are just fixes to make a great app even better, the fact that an SDK has been released for HEN/SE means that making mods for them has become a lot more easier. Expect to see a lot of great mods by people. Secondly, since the SDK is common between HEN and SE, it means that most of the mods will work flawlessly on either firmware (2.71 w/ HEN or 2.71 SE). Now that this release is out of the way, I'm waiting for the next version of 2.71 SE with bated breath. It is in development and is rumored to come out very soon. Enjoy HEN D for now!

So apparently "almost all people have upgraded" to the se firmware. I don't see why that many people did in the first place. If you just use plain devhook, you have less problems. How many times do games specifically have problems with the custom firmware, while the normal devhook people can fix it with a simple fix or nothing at all. What happens when booster releases his new devhook, oh wait I know, everybody complains because they won't be able to use it on custom firmware unless they get some new upgrade and constantly have to keep flashing over and over.

Save yourself the trouble, screw it.

You should try out SE if you havent. Its pretty good in my opinion, since you can play a lot of isos from the game folder insteadt of having to boot up devhook every sinlge time. Also you get the features of 2.71, and you dont have to boot up devhook everytime you want to play a umd or ISO.

hey element, you know, 1.5 casual let you load devhook on startup, is same as 2.71se.. mostly, but why can't we emulate 2.71 se?

   Re: TPot - 2006-11-25
 » 1.5 vs Se

SE offers you some advantages over 1.5/devhook. It also allows you to run devhook just like you would from 1.5 (just make sure you have it in game150 folder).
ie. some extra functionality at no cost.

Does this mean that we don't need to take the umd out before running hen?

I wish they made it so hen was permanently activated, even after a hard reboot. >_>

   Re: Deezed (Unregistered) - 2006-11-25
 » What?

If you use the foolproof TIFF launching method
(selecting a picture, pressing home, waiting 5 seconds, then pressing start on the HEN folder), you NEVER have to remove the UMD. I know because I've been doing this since the first day devhook was ported to 2.71, and a handy member on the forums posted the method. Check the QJ forums if you dont understand :)

Don't stop here DAX!
Port the 2.71SE installer to 2.71 HEN please! That will make it much easier for many PSP owners, as some do not want to downgrade, and update again.
Or make kernel mode homebrew work ;)

Just take a breather, or does everything have to be a fight with you? I swear some people only post on here to start a fight...

We need to get Hen/Devhook to stay after a hardboot. I mean, playing N64 on my PSP is cool and all, but not with all that work and memory clogging.

 » Does Killzone work?

I have a question. Does Killzone Liberation work with HEND enabled because the last time i tried it on HENC i got an error msg that says the game cannot be started.

   Re: ReeGee (Unregistered) - 2006-12-01
 » it does work

it does work BUT you just cant copy the files from the "devhook" folder of the HEN C release. I figured that out because initially i didnt copy those files and it was working, then i did copy them after and it stopped working.

I have no idea what the files in that devhook folder do, because it seems to work completely fine without them

If you would have read 0okm's auto exec instuctions carefully he said do not use the auto exec on any other versions except Rev C. Seeing I have common sense and know how to read I uninstalled the auto exec, removed it along with Rev C, and replaced with Rev D and works great and I'm sure 0okm will update the auto exec now, btw thanx 0okm, Dark Alex and all developers for all their hard work besides the idiots of the scene we greatly appreciate you efforts and I wish your work would be praised much more heh I'd even say maybe there should be a dev appreciation day!

how do you get a memory stick stuck in a TV?

and anyways 2.71SeC > 1.5, seeing as they BOTH run devhook. Funny how some *****tards dont relize this.

so far havent had any games that dont run in 2.71sec yet.

» vshex mode preview... not working under HEND?

Have any of you guys had any issues chunglam's vshex mod after installing HEN-D?
I'm refering to the ability to preview the ISO icon of your game by pressing on the HOME button. It used to work great under HENC, however after updating to HEND that feature doesn't seem to work anymore. What's worse, when loading devhook and having chosen an ISO, devhook will load XMB and the dummy ISO but since you can no longer bring up your ISO menu (by pressing HOME) then you can't even load the game at all. Doesn't it suck?
Or is it just happening to me?
