PSP - Image 1It's not 4.05 M33 just yet, but Dark AleX has released a new plugin that could prove pretty useful to those who frequently download stuff for their PSPs from the PlayStation Store.

This new plugin is called USB Version Fake. As you can probably gather from the name, this plugin fakes the version that the PSP reports when it's connected to either a PC or a PS3. It should let users avoid the firmware version check on the PSN downloader.

By default, the firmware version is set to 4.05, but according to the readme (which you should really check before you install this plugin), you can easily set it to whatever version you need. Installation and usage instructions are also included in the readme. Keep checking back here for updates.

 » Possible Silly question............???????????????

I download demo's from both the U.S. and U.K. store (via PS3).
When i download a new content from one the other does'nt work.
IE when i install a U.K. demo U.S. ones don't work until i re-install a U.S. demo but then U.K. content doens't work.
And vice versa.

Could this usb version faker be used to stop this problem or is it because of the different users (one for U.K. and one for U.S.).

The problem is your ACT.DAT in Flash2 is being replaced whenever you go to the other region's store. You can only have one ACT.DAT in Flash2.

or easier for ofw noobs

the usb is just a firmware check skipper like
you can only activate one region

as said by akadewboy, one act.dat

This is not made for demos, just use FAKE REGION for stuff like that but it should work none the less. IDK why you are having problems LmmingMad

 » It doesn't do anything.

Faking your region doesn't affect compatibility in any way. The only thing faking your region does is give you different icons in your XMB.

   Re: JimmyD - 2008-07-15
 » fail.

akadewboy, you are incorrect. The other thing faking your region does is allow you to play movies (on umd) from other countries that have different region codes.

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-07-15
 » double fail

JimmyD, YOU are incorrect. There is currently no way to play movies from a different region. Faking the region is SOLELY for accessing the features given to other regions.

   Re: fungusinmymilk - 2008-07-15
 » tripple fail

FreePlay, YOU are incorrect. faking your region on the psp DOES allow you to watch UMD movies from other regions
i got a psp 2000 from Japan and it wouldnt play any region 4 UMDs, but when i used the fake region option in recovery i can now play all regions of movies.

   Re: Advertising - 2008-07-16
 » Correction

Freeplay and akadewboy are the ones with more of a clue of what fake region does. It NEVER worked for playing UMD's of other regions on most PSP's. It of course depends on what region you are in and what region you want to play. As mathieul mentioned on Lan.st they simply lacked the sufficient movie UMD's from different regions to test them all.
So as it stands fungusinmymilk you are just lucky it was one of the compatible PSP/Movie UMD region combinations. OR you pulled that out of your ass, which is also likely.

I'd like to meet DA someday. I have a lot of respect for him.

 » Why?

I'm just wondering what the check is for that where faking? I downloaded Syphon filter combat ops with 3.90 m33-3 without a problem. I believe it was when 3.95 was out but I was just wondering what this check is exactly. Does it force you to update to the latest firmware?
