Dark Alex releases CFW 3.80 M33-3 and Popsloader M33-3 - Image 1We're letting the word out that Dark AleX has just released Custom PSP Firmware M33-3. This new build carries with it some error fixes and improvements to enable it to work with an equally new Popsloader version also in circulation. Quoting the readme:

  • Fixed synchronization issue that plugins check code caused in PSN NP9660 original games (fixes 0x80010013 error)
  • Added a couple of libs to the nids resolver.
  • Added some internal changes required by incoming 3.80 popsloader plugin.
The new popsloader doesn't appear to be too different from the previous version - it was simply re-worked to carry support for M33-3. Keep in mind that it's built specifically for the third update - it won't run on previous 3.80 M33 versions. As always, we strongly advise users to view the file readme before they attempt to install either M33-3 or its accompanying popsloader.

We extend our thanks to homj , maxy_psp, tyler jay, usernameforever, buttonsoft, and everybody else who tipped us off regarding the new CFW and Popsloader releases!

*UPDATE* Mere moments after we had this article up, Dark AleX once again released another 3.80 M33 update. This fourth update, 3.80 M33-4, includes the following change:
  • galaxy.prx was changed to a new version that is giving problems with slow memory sticks. Reverted back to previous versions. This didn't only affect decrypted isos running in NP9660 mode.
Remember, you need custom firmware 3.80 M33 to run this update. If you're running 3.80 M33 on your PSP, you can also get 3.80 M33-4 it via Network Update. Again, thanks to everybody who sent in tips.

   Re: WingedPaladin - 2008-01-17
 » FF7 Battle Crash Resolved

I am running 3.80 M33-4 on PSP Slim

Go to http://www.dark-alex.org and download:
- PSARDumper (M33 PSARDumper (up to 3.7x)
- 3.80 M33 Popsloader. (Download)

Now you will need to find the Official Firmware Update for 3.72 and download it.

Connect your PSP via USB.

From the OFW 3.72, copy the EBOOT.PBP file to the root folder of your memory stick.

From the 3.80 M33 Popsloader, copy the seplugins folder to the root folder of your memory stick

From the PSARDumper, copy the "newpsardumper" folder to your "PSPGAME" folder

Now disconnect your PSP from USB.

Go to "Game" on the PSP and select "NEW PSAR DUMPER" and then press the square button.
This will extract the pops files you will need into folder F0. After that has completed and you are back to the regular PSP screen, reconnect the PSP to USB.

I renamed the "F0" folder on the PSP to "F0372" but you can rename it to your preference. I created a "pops372" folder on my computer and then copied kdpops.prx kdpopsman.prx vshmodulepafmini.prx and vshmodulelibpspvmc.prx to the "pops372" folder on my computer.

Add "372" to the end of each of these prx files in the "pops372" folder to read "pops372.prx", "libpspvmc372.prx", etc.

Copy the four renamed files from the computer into the "popsloader" folder in the "seplugins" folder on the PSP.

Delete the EBOOT.PBP (3.72 update) file from the root directory of the memory stick since you no longer need it at this time.

Turn off your PSP. Press down on the Right button while turning on your PSP to go into recovery mode.

Go to "Plugins ->" and select "popsloader.prx [POPS] (Disabled)" to change it to enabled.

Select "Back" then "Exit" and your PSP should boot.

Start FFVII. If this is your first time running using the popsloader, it will give you a list asking which pops to load. Select pops 3.72. The game should start and hopefully work without the crash during the battle now.

If your psp hangs and you see a black screen after loading FFVII, you probably tried loading popsloader without pops files or selected something other than 3.72 (since only 3.72 would be installed so far). If this is the case, reset the configuration by deleting the "conf.bin" file in "seplugins" folder and "config.bin" file in the "popsloader" folder on your PSP. After deleting those two files, try loading FFVII again and you should see the pops list again. Select "pops 3.72" and FFVII should start.

   Re: WingedPaladin - 2008-01-17
 » CORRECTIONS: Blog removed my slashes! :O

Ok, the blog removed the slashes in my previous post.

"PSPGAME" folder should be "PSP -> GAME"

the four prx files you need from the "F0" folder are:

F0 -> kd -> pops.prx
F0 -> kd -> popsman.prx
F0 -> vsh -> module -> pafmini.prx
F0 -> vsh -> module -> libpspvmc.prx

   Re: WingedPaladin - 2008-01-17
 » Clarification and Cleanup

It seems you do not need to put the prx files in subfolders within in the "popsloader" folder.

After you get FFVII to work correctly, go ahead and delete the "F0" or "F0372" folder from your PSP root directory if you think you will no longer need it.

   Re: Mister Common Sense - 2008-01-17
 » .

I've been playing FF7 using popsloader and the files from 3.10 firmware and never had a crash yet. FF8 works the best using this firmware, but crashes fairly often. All the Tomb Raider games only work using the 3.03 or 3.02 firmware files.

Decrypting and dumping the correct pops files from the sony firmware updates was a complete pain in the arse. Luckily, I found a complete download of all of them online. Look around long enough and you can find them.

   Re: WingedPaladin - 2008-01-17
 » Very True

That would certainly simplify things. I couldn't find this compilation online, hence the instructions for getting the pops files from their natural habitat. I will keep exploring in search of this treasure chest.

NETWORK UPDATE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!! Thats got to be one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. I am a casual homebrew user, so a lot of news on here doesn't excite me.

But I wanted to check something in recovery, then saw this option all the way at the bottom. I didn't know about it!!! So I made sure it was enabled, then downloaded and saw it as M33-4!!!!!!!!!!!! What a surprised. Installed and BAM!!

Thanks D_A and Team M33!!!! This feature is FANTASTIC!!!

i think you dont have the pops files in the seplugins/popsloader folder

   Re: sickofitall - 2008-01-17

I had the same problem. After you upgrade the popsloader, you will have to recreate the prx files for it to work again. Mine did the same thing, but after I decrypted the fws, it worked again. I still have some problems with psx games though, and I'm on the phat.
