DevHook

Booster has updated his firmware launching tool, DevHook for the PSP to version 0.42 today. For those of you who don't know (i.e. 2.5/2.6 users who have just downgraded), DevHook allows you to launch another firmware version up to 2.5 and use all of its features, enabling you to use the web browser and LocationFree player, and run UMDs that require firmware version 1.5. The firmware remains loaded in the PSP's RAM, so after a simple reboot of your PSP, it will return to firmware version 1.5 like magic.

Here's the changelog:
  • Menu looks sharper with a better resolution.
  • No UMD bug fix
  • UMD Emu's semaphore bug fix
  • Changed Clock reset timing
  • Changed contents of configuration data
  • Changed loading & setting method from launcher
  • Changed the config load at the time of starting into a memory course from a file.
  • XMB's UMD change feature is now in an external module.
  • Added a CLOCK change function to the XMB shortcut.
  • Clock frequency is displayed on the XMB
  • Remote control compatibility with Kprintf.
  • Added Japanese localization launcher version by mok
Todo:
  • FW2.00 No-UMD loading
  • FW2.71 reboot
  • NAND driver emulation
Most of these changes are to the core of DevHook, and they improve the stability and compatibility of this program. The main differences the average user will spot are the menu resolution enhancements and the addition of Remote control compatibility with Kprintf. Those who have downgraded from 2.5-2.6 now know why 1.5 is known as 'the magic firmware.' You can do almost anything with it: defy the Update Machine; play 2.5 UMD's; and, browse the Web with 1.5 Firmware!

Note: Dumped firmware files are required in order to emulate that firmware version. We cannot provide these for legal reasons, you must obtain them yourself.

UPDATE: These developers sure work fast. Barely two days after releasing v0.42 of DevHook, Booster has another update for all off us. V0.42a fixes a bug for NOUMD. The return value of dhGetVersion () has changed from 0x00004200 to 0x00420001 in this update. Get updated version of DevHook below.

UPDATE No. 2: Booster is not only one smart guy to have come up with DevHook, he's also one fast worker as well. In a span of two days, he was able to give us not only one but THREE updates to arguably one of the most exciting homebrew app to cross our ways.

Thanks to AkiraPsychic, we got to know of the latest version to Bosster's DevHook. V0.42b has the following changelog (as always, thanks to the amazing Jeff Chen for the translation):

- Memory drain improved when rebooting.
- DevHook resident task stack changed from 4KB to 8KB.
- The return value of dhGetVersion() changed from 0x00004201 to 0x00420002.
- When set CPU CLOCK=0, the CLOCK manipulation of DevHook will be disabled (launcher is not supported yet)

» This is a little pointless....

I really don't care about a little more resolution, where is the 2.6 or 2.7/1 emulation???? This update does nothing new. Oh man... I was really looking forward to the next update...

BTW, stop asking about Socom online. If it emulates 2.5 perfectly do u think it can play Socom online?? YES!

 » just great

look at these questions.... i wish the 2.5/6 downgrader never got released.
these people were on higher firmwares for one reason, that being they're morons.
the flood of piracy has come.

"i wish the 2.5/6 downgrader never got released.

yeah the reason was because there was no downgrader! or becuase they were stuck with a psp that wasnt 1.5!

moron.

if you rip a umd disc with a game that requires 2.6, or 2.7, you can edit files and make it into an iso for playing on the devhook launcher, of course, the game iso's are large. but being able to play new games on your 1.5 is a very nice feature.

hey, what about us who auctually listen to all the 1.5 stuf an know how to use it even tho weve been upgrading?

O.o

 » Works anyway

It should work anyway. If i put my worms open warfare umd in (needs update 2.6) and start devhook it runs it anyway! same for locoroco. It just starts it any dosn't ask me to update.
Hope that answers some questions.

 » daxiso and devhook

i personally think that the makers of daxsiso and devhook should work together to make devhook compatible qith daxs compressed isos it would be off the hook

 » Now time for....

2.7/2.71 emulation yay!!!! Hopefully they found something in 2.7/2.71 and can emulate it in their next version of DevHook as the new additions to this isn't that exciting!!!!!!!!!

"same for locoroco. It just starts it any dosn't ask me to update."

you telling me your dev hook runs loco roco full game off the umd??? honestly??

I couldnt get mine to do that so i upgraded back to 2.6 , and I'm no 'noob' before you say it..

what version of dev hook were you using? this new one? please reply..or anyone else thats got loco working off the umd NOT THE ISO

 » Problem in article.

"and run UMDs that require firmware version 1.5"

That should be 2.5 and below, not 1.5...

» um...also......wtf is the remote?? what can I do with it?

seriously.....i loaded it or whatever.....but what is it for?

if you want loco roco to work you will need to download the patch from www.maxconsole.net, join forum search for loco roco patch its by a guy called "meetjoeblack", make sure you download ppf o-matic too, theres a link to it on the page with the lco roco patch...and make sure you check the file size of the iso before patching, make sure it corresponds with the size nexts to the patch hyperlink on the maxconsole page. Hope this clears up any confusion on this matter

 » Mehhhh

Alot of my games are 2.6 required and they all dont work with this.. and the 2.xx -> 2.00 thing doesnt work half the time. Its made it able to get to the loading screen of syphon filter than it just crashes :P Hopefully there will be 2.6 emulation or even 2.71 in next version. And I hope thats soon cuz I want to play some of my 2.6 games :O

» To post #9, the douchebag.

I own SOCOM, and wouldn't risk downgrading from 2.0 to if I wouldn't be able to play. So it's certain it will work? With the last ones, it emulated perfectly except with WiFi.

I said nothing of piracy. And even if I did, it should be the PSP owners option of what to do with thier PSP as long as thier aware of the risk. Sony is blocking out a lot more than piracy with these updates, and without kernal mode, I can't play some of the best homebrew games, like the modable Super Smash Bros clone somebody made.
